Honestly one of my favorite first episodes ever, my only complaints are some of Nem's line deliveries, the shot where Baku jumps from the Window and the shot where Baku kicks the Gun Nightmare into multiple CGI backgrounds. Otherwise the direction and action were great and I already like Baku and his sister as characters and the cops have a decent set up. I hope the show remains this good.

Just because we're bringing up slo mo, it'll never be as bad at that one episode of geats where they were trying to match the card monsters. Not that was overusing slo mo so badly that the sequenced was stretched the fuck out, if ohger was 11, that was a 20.

The show has a neat style, though hardly the most technically impressive if you're familiar with what other modern rider and sentai shows do. It has a tough uphill battle after the last show, which had some of the best action in Reiwa for this series, but the henshin was cool, and the action was fun. The style is unique enough to stand out, which is what I was hoping for.
A big mistake for this episode was not properly showing the protagonist's bad luck and struggles with his dream. They speak a lot about how he's helpless and has terrible luck, but the only unlucky thing that happened to him was caused by the villain, so it's more of a villain attack than a miserable life. I think if you saw the Gavv finale, you may get a better impression, but it's a wasted opportunity not to have an unlucky montage like Den-O did in his first episode. And because we don't get a good idea of that beyond what his sister says and some quick photos, the guy's motivation and drive feel rather hollow. It's good that he wants to help others, but the episode making a big deal about how he can't really do it seems to exaggerate someone who's (seemingly) a basic dude. I'm sure they'll expand on why he's like that later with some backstory, but they probably could have included some of that in this episode to make a better introduction. If it's something like their parents helped people and died, some quick line hinting at it could have worked perfectly.
So it was fine, but definitely lacking in the more important parts to sell the plot.

I'm confused, because this episode made it seem like Agent 0 and dream Nemu are schizo delusions conjured by Baku. I thought 0 was an actual commander of an organization that kept information from Baku because he's a low-ranking agent while Nemu was another person with lucid dreams that shows up on all of the dreams that Baku invades because shes
she's so famous. But in here they really felt like fake people that Baku made for moral support.

>>23504449
Really liked the episode. Kenta Nitta did a better job than I was expecting, he was also Baku's stunt double for the scenes in the beginning. The direction for Baku's nightmare was fantastic, Baku's relationship with his sister ended up being cuter than I expected. That said while I liked the fight overall some of it felt awkward by Jun Watanabe standards, reminded me a bit of how some fights fared off in late Revice which scares me a bit for future episode, also the cops' introduction felt rushed, although I do appreciate the episode has little use of exposition.

Overall, it was a pretty average first episode. The biggest highlight was Kami's above average directing, really liked the long suitless action scene at the start with the actor credits incorparated into it, as well as the horror vibes. Baku seems to be a solid protagonist so far and his actor is pretty decent, it's interesting that his hikikkomori-ness is the product of a depression of some kind which I hope wasn't just caused by his bad luck in general, I just hope neither of his personas gets flanderized like Ace and Keiwa were. I also like that his bad luck is seemingly not just plain bad luck but rather incidents caused by Nox actively screwing with his heroic acts. Speaking of Nox, if he's really getting people killed like the text previews imply then I hope his sins aren't swept under the rug when he gets inevitably redeemed like other Takahashi anti-"heroes".

I can see some foreshadowing for Minami's secret status as an agent already, which we will learn more about in the first episode of her miniseries, I like that she will seemingly be more involved in the plot than Keiwa's sister was. Can't say much about Nemu and the two cops yet since they didn't do much this week, but I wonder how much the old guy knows about the dream world stuff since he's already aware of the Nightmares and their M.O. If Zero's always going to speak in English then I wish they had casted someone more fluent like Mr. Belt, he sounds kinda stilted.

Zeztz's Henshin was cool but his fight's choreography was nothing to write home about, I hope Kenta Nitta can surprise us in the future. So far there isn't much intrigue other than the obvious mystery characters that are Zero and Nox, as well as whoever dragged Baku into Zero's HQ (if that wasn't supposed to be Nemu herself). Also, I wonder if Baku will have the belt permanently stuck to his chest in the real world like a pacemaker of sorts.

But Gavv already was consistently good like usual Heisei seasons even if the show peaked at Caking's debut. Even though the advanced pre-production Gavv had didn't improve the show's planning, so Zeztz might be the same case and there's no guarantee the next season after Zeztz will have a long pre-production, I think them having to film shows in advanced now will be mostly beneficial.
But either way one cannot say that Kamen Rider is "saved" because the current producer pool is kind of mixed bag, and Toei seems to be pulling people from other divisions that have been AP in Toku before to compensate, so if anything the quality of Rider and Sentai shows are more unpredictable than ever since it's mostly new producers now with the new division formed led by Shirakura and Tsukada and with Ryusoulger's producer as president replacing Hikasa.

Baku's dream look. The 777 because it makes me think of slot specials like Setzer's and that's not what he was doing. He has a cardiac arrest on episode 1 already? My expectation for "unlucky protagonist" would be that as it progresses he gets into more unlucky events, you can't get more unlucky than dying immediately.

You realise the corpos do it *because* of the audience, right? The more audience, the more potential customers. So the audience invited in end up enabling it. It only keeps going because they invite in the ilk that genuinely likes these bad practices and encourage them, and because they eventually become the majority due to sheer numbers, it becomes the norm.

This shit plagues and continues TO plague game translations ever since Japanese media went more mainstream in the West

Not really, according to the staff it was made to look similar to the original season while appealing to western and other asian audiences was because they want it to be a good introduction of the franchise for newcomers from around the world but the main focus is still japanese children. They don't consider this a "reboot" since Zero-One was already technically that and they implied that after Zeztz they will go back to "trendy japanese themes" like Gavv's snack theme, although really whether the next season has a motif like that or tries something similar to Zeztz it's up to the mercy of whoever produces the next season.

The producer just wanted Zeztz to rely on 4 forms that retain the general shape like Kuuga. Apparently he even wanted the show to have no gimmicks and just have buttons that allow to change the forms just like Kuuga and Den-O since he felt that in a dream you wouldn't use gimmicks to change forms, but ultimately had to add the capsems gimmick to make money. It doesn't seem like the forms have any proper motif and they just thought what would be better for action scenes.

Even today's episode of Zeztz had a child molester.

Apparently what inspired Gavv's villains was a documentary about drug dealers kidnapping kids to force them into child labor that Takebe and Takijima watched, but they never specified what documentary and ftom which country. They're Kamen Riders, it'd be weird if they didn't have licenses.
Come to think of it, which characters probably wouldn't?
>Shouma since he has no legal documentation whatsoever
>Hibiki was confirmed to not have one
>Gentaro, Sougo and Houtaro are high schoolers, doesn't necessarily mean they can't have a license since in Japan the age for some motorcycles is 16 but it would not be surprising if they didn't (Gentaro is the most likely to have a motorcycle license among the high schooler Riders)
>Sento and Shouichi both have amnesia but might have licenses since they have integrated into their new lives
Honestly I think the least likely Riders to have licenses would probably be Eiji and Tendou. Eiji because it completely slipped his mind, and Tendou because he doesn't care and wouldn't get pulled over anyway and even if he did he'd simply Tendou his way out of consequences.

It does fall off in some aspects, but there are still good parts that remain by the end, and I ended up liking more than I disliked for Zero-One.

Geats shits the bed after Q1 and stays awful the whole ride after that with literally one likable character who isn't even in the main cast, and Revice just felt predictable and boring basically the whole way through, the only strong points were 2 and a half characters.
I still liked Aruto by the end even if he was retarded sometimes, I liked Izu, I liked Fuwa, I liked the suits, some of the twists were cool, Ark was cool, etc.

Back on topic, the MC for this feels like a charisma void so far but not nearly as bad as Ace was who tried way to hard to be cool but didn't have the presence like say Tendou.

>the character chemistry was fine sometimes
Characters were so schizophrenic and switched motivations too much for any real chemistry to build. It could have been okay but after Q1 characters started changing positions on a dime randomly. Biggest offender was buffa having a "I trust you" moment with Ace and sacrificing himself then turning evil like an episode later for no reason. And obviously Keiwa. It was like a dream and made no sense constantly.

Saber was bad but the middle portion had some kino moments and desast was good too, so it is better than Geats. Also Ghost is better than most of Reiwa. Only 2 shows in Reiwa are better than it which is sad because it is the worst Phase 2. Ghost is aimless but none of the characters just randomly switch personalities like some of Reiwa and it has a couple moments. I really hope this show doesn't do that but I have no hope. Anyway, if Geats is a 1 and Ghost is a 4, Saber is a 3, so pretty not good but there are a couple moments and there are occaissons where the story appears like it may go to interesting places even if by the end it really doesn't.

I think the only compelling character/moments in Geats from start to finish was Neon's dad and when Buffa "died" in Q1. Everything else was predictable or made zero sense given character personalities.

Gotchard was mostly trash on the same level. Outside of Spanner and his crew everyone sucked and the villains were somehow even worse than Geats.

I have very little expectations for Zeztz, especially based on this episode. At best I am expecting it to be maybe 6/10 but I am expecting 3/10 or lower, Geats shook my confidence in Takahashi that much whereas before I would say he makes consistently 7/10 stuff, flawed but otherwise good (but not great).

I really like how they're incorporated English just enough to be cool and not obnoxious. The episode titles being English first then Japanese with official translations was a nice touch, it gives me the vibes that this is a show written with another audience in mind, and since Japanese children seem to love American heroes like Spider-Man, it's a win-win. Zero's voice is so good
The opening spy sequence was an amazing way to introduce the overall theme of the show. Watching it with my friend, it was cool being shocked that the main character was using a straight up gun only to find out he was using rubber bullets. That's some Metal Gear level camp, which is good
All suit designs are very solid so far, action was great without too many over the top elements. My favorite part during the final fight was when he threw the Nightmare into the building and smashed him through just enough scenarios too feel satisfying. Any shorter and it would have felt not enough
His dream powers are extremely OP and I love that, but I have a feeling that we won't have very many dream fights going forward
The villains being Lex Luthor level of cartoonishly evil in Baku's first dream was fun too, crowdfunding an idol's rescue just to kill her anyway as a dramatic ending wasn't a necessary detail but it was fun nonetheless
Obviously the nightmare sequence was incredible and extremely relatable how actual dreams and nightmares feel like. I do hope we get more stuff like that, but it's hard for me to see them continuing this level of quality for the entire year
I could go on more, but overall, this is the most promising first episode I've seen in a long, long time

Cons
