Yeah she had an outstanding level of newtypery and was given better things to pilot, but 1) I refuse to believe that Char only had one other decent newtype at his disposal, 2) with the several unsubtle comparisons with Lalah, I think he liked having her around because she reminded him of Lalah, but he also didn't care about her precisely because she wasn't Lalah. A pawn implies to me that the primary use was utility, whereas I think she was moreso a vulnerable plaything that landed on his lap.

Newtypes are generally pretty rare, the one that Char had wasn't even a natural, he was a cyber newtype. Still at the end of the day he stuck Quess into a giant mobile armor in his final battle and never checked up on her after she sortied. At that point he did treat her like a pawn.

You realize that the moment you realize that his motive to isolate Zeon to de escalate tension, is the same shit Char intended to do with Zeon in Zeta by keeping them out of the war with titans until he forced into negotiating terms with them, and then Minerva tells him that his plan is something char would never do.
