For the unclear, "plamo" is short for "plastic model". "Gunpla" is thus short for "Gundam plastic model". Many different kinds of models are built here, ranging from mecha to planes, cars, musume, you name it! If you're new, you're gonna screw up. Don't worry! If you're seasoned, don't make the newbies worry!

And don't forget to report shitposting and spam. The mods don't browse /m/ too often, so it's up to YOU to help keep our general clean and civil!

Katoki had to use them in excess for the MG Victory due to space/transformation constraints. The other designers copied him because it was simple to do, even though they had space for better joints.

Katoki is not an engineer, just someone who drip feds ideas to Bandai's staff. The real beginning of C clips madness started when Bandai made RG Sazabi and Hi Nu, both used alot of c clips in various details minus the main joints. Both are well received kits, making Bandai overly confident with their c clips usuage.

Whenever Amuro gets to choose his own color scheme he goes for the same colors as seen with both the Dijeh and Re-GZ had basically the same color scheme, teal and dark blue.

Nu's colors were just rollout colors, it was pressed into action pretty much as soon as it came off the assembly line in the movie, if you check the dummy balloons it shoots out they also go for teal and dark blue implying that, if given the time, it was going to be painted that color too. Building the Moderoid Susanoo from Yamato Takeru right now and noticed something pretty neat that I personally haven't seen before on a kit:
You're probably familiar with those shafts with a little nub on one side for joints where you put it into the hole, rotate it by 180° and then the nub hinders it from falling out or being pulled out too far.
Well, they did that here, too, but not just for the shafts but also for the balljoints so they sit neatly inside their socket without too much stress or any danger of popping out.

I always do decals, hand-painted details and topcoat on the individual parts before assembly. It's easier to get consistent varnish coats before assembly where parts aren't blocking each other. That way all the decals are fully sealed when I assemble everything which makes them almost impossible to mess up during assembly. Also, like you mention, I often use a mix of topcoat finishes and that's a lot easier to do in pieces.

Definitely messed up, from googling deeper into other plamo/ kit communities, it turns out there's a very good reason why these hobby groups recommend the same few brands of acrylic paint specifically for these hobbies. Regular stationery store acrylic paint can't quite give that consistency you want in painting plastic.

I think you are abit confused here. Candycoat is not necessary reflective and glossy, it is a professional looking texture for your kit, making them look like expensive sport cars. Candycoat consist of 3 layers: The primer surfacer, the basecoat and the finish. You paint metallic paint on the primer first, they can be as basic as silver and gunmetal, and then spray the glossy finishing color on top. As i mentioned above, black primer makes the paint dark, white primer makes the paint bright, so make up your mind before chosing.

They do this as it is the miniature equivalent of panel lining. Model kits are large enough to where edges generate their own real shadows, and detail can be brought out manually with panel liner. Minis are too small to generate appropriate shadows, so edge highlighting does a similar effect. Also panel liner would be too annoying to clean up at that scale.
