30MM uses C-clips for the knee joints, which are notorious for wearing out faster than any other joint types. personally i don't like them because of the ugly 3mm holes that riddle most of the kits on the line.

With resin, absolutely wear a mask. Even when wet sanding there's literally no reason not to, along with having some sort of extraction fan going. People here love to ignore basic safety steps but resin can seriously fuck you up. There was a guy on reddit a few years back who lost part of his sight because he unknowningly had resin residue on his hands, rubbed his eyes, and it wasn't until hours later after he had slept that he started to feel it. Ophthalmologist told him he had basically applied a chemical burn to his cornea.

You can look for yourself on the effects of plastic on the body. Generally speaking, you're not going to suddenly get super cancer because you sanded a bandai kit and you inhaled some of it but like with anything, probably better to take easy preventative actions where you can. If I'm sanding a PS/ABS kit, I don't mask up but I usually sand over a little container of water so that the plastic dust gets trapped by the water.

is it actually true that primer isn't completely necessary when working with lacquers? Since ZOG banned mr surfacer, want to make what primer I have last as long as possible and was thinking about only save it for colors that need a neutral base coat

yeah, lacquers chemically bond to ps and abs (but not other plastics) by very slightly melting it (lacquer thinner contains some similar chemicals to plastic cements) and any high pigment paint (mr color gx, gaia, jumpwind) will have enough pigment for the colour of the plastic to not effect the paint tone. if you want a high gloss finish you might need to polish the plastic with higher grit sandpaper than you would if you used a high grit surfacer/primer before you paint it

surfacers are not primers they're paint with filler elements mixed in. Which is what makes them easier to sand than regular lacquers.
The actual mr hobby primer is a multi primer thats designed for all types of materials including resin and PE. As lacquer cannot bite into those like with PS or ABS plastic.

Had Google Gemini do a research search on this and it checked all the SDS sheets and such.
Mr Color lacquers have a solvent that partially dissolves PS and ABS which the acrylic pigments then get adhered to. It isn't a chemical bond, but the pigments are literally in the surface of the plastic. This is why if you go too wet you can lose detail sharpness.

So probably if you don't use a surfacer you will be fine, outside of the base color issue. Which I guess you can just do a black coat or w/e of lacquer first to solve that.

Different solvent and better pigments. Solvent to solve this Canada ban issue and similar, pigment change means less coats. Can thin GGX with standard thinner, but you loose the smell/solvent change benefit. Supposedly it takes a week to cure though. Dries to touch in 30 min like standard Mr. Color.

Does anyone here have any experience recasting parts with silicon and resin? Is there any reason why with two part molds the split usually goes horizontally across the part you are casting, like in the left pic? It has a hole in either end for a joint, so in my mind it makes more sense to cast it with the part vertical, but I never see people do that. Is there a reason for that? All I can think of is that it would leave less room for registration marks.

Depends what you’ll use them for. As a second flush cut, any single-bladed nipper will work and can be cheaper than godhand’s $70 tag. If it’s the only nipper you’ll use, especially on brittle clear runners, loads of godhands have been damaged by dumb mishandling or drops as they’re purposefully fragile for “sharp cuts” meant to finish off nubs

If you plan to sand or cut the nub down anyways, the flush cut difference between godhands vs generic doesn’t matter

But if you’ve got money to spend, some shitty current nippers, then any single-bladed nippers will be an upgrade. Godhands just gets you name brand and near-assured sharpness quality without second-guessing generics. Generics can be $10-$30 range

In the Europe, a Spanish(?) company was the main distributor for Bandai kits but I noticed recently that in the UK, new prints have a sticker which shows Bandai S.A.S as the distributor in France and Bandai UK as the distributor in the UK. Got the HIV Gundam put back together. I was going to add some minor wear effects, but I think I'll leave it clean. I wish the pearl white showed up better in pictures. I offset it with the same white without pearl and just moving my head side to side looking at it the whites alternate between looking darker or lighter than each other.
