I don't care much about mech retcons.
Origin feels goofy. A bit of humour and slapstick is fine and even enhances the experience, but the OVA just doesn't stop making Dozle look like an idiot.
Sayla, Ral and Hamon were the saving grace, they prevent it from being completely unwatchable.
Episode 1 is probably the worst episode to start on, the recap at the start of next episode is unironically better. There's so much stuff that feels like a pulpy action movie instead of Gundam, which isn't necessarily bad, but it baffles me to see people unironically treat it as some serious political thriller or something.
Origin, like most prequels and spin offs, tries to do callbacks, references and unnecessary connections that makes the world feel smaller. Yashima helping Mass move to Texas colony, Char going to work at Jaburo and meeting Lalah, WB crew being in the same class, Hitler line etc.
Charma academy episode was great, except for the rebellion that is framed as the starting point of OYW, that was retarded.
Somewhere in the middle I had a thought that Yas might be doing LOGH instead of Gundam and being really bad at it.
Newtypism is barely focused upon, this in turn ends up hurting Kycilia 's character. The story frames her as a schemer who wants to prolong the war and might have been the reason for Sasro's death (poor dude barely got any screen time). Her role should have been given to Gihren, it makes more sense and gives a more compelling narrative.
Operation British was devastating, the little segment of a couple in the colony enhanced it.
I enjoyed the friendly rivalry between Tri stars and Char.
