What really hurt them is that their attempt to mix things up with Shin Getter Dragon wasn't well received (and was just out of place in 30 where both Amuro and Kouji start with their classic units, while Ryoma doesn't get Getter-1).

Well, that and, giving Armageddon a proper adaptation also means proper spotlight to the Gou/Kei/Gai team, and they clearly really don't care for them, aside from using Gou as a plot device.

Now that I kind of think about it, DD trying to avoid IBO Season 2 as much as possible is kind of funny since the game has also been playing Geass completely straight.

Thing is, Armageddon basically got the Toei Getter treatment already. In spite of appearing in many games they rarely adapted the original story.

The dinosaur empire appeared for the first time in a SRW game in Alpha Gaiden! And this was for a fully original story in the future. All previous games just had Mechasaurus being used as random AI bots by other factions (Captain Radora had appeared before though, but as part of other factions).

They adapted Musashi's death and the transition from Getter to G, and then also started giving Shin Getter as a power up since SRW4. Also, had Texas Mack here and there, but it was never direct adaptations from the show.

Alpha 2 was the first time with a more straight forward Toei Getter adaptation, and even so it had a lot of original stuff.

G somehow was luckier and had loose adaptations in Impact, A, 64 and even MX (although focused on the movies) and Z1. Although the show's last appearance in W was basically licensing-only just to have Shin Getter in the game.

On the one hand I can see them ending up part of the Posaydal-Drake alliance, and then as part of NOAHS in general, but at the same time actively against the Infernal Alliance, Andromeda, and especially Kaiju. The Gekiganger influence would run too strongly for them to just sit back and watch, and if anything it might be a good propaganda boost to keep the rank and file Jovians feeling like they are the real heroes.

I think there could be an interesting point of conflict where they show up to attack the Dinosaur Empire as well, even while the Infernal Alliance and Andromeda do the same, purely as a way to prove they are the "true" successors to the "heroic Getter team" of old by ridding the world of the "villainous Dinosaurs" for good. YZ-Next trying to protect the Dinosaur Empire would be seen as "proof" of their villainy as a propaganda point.

it's a technological marvel in terms of sprite animation, and the level design while not too difficult still felt handcrafted overall (especially in md where almost every chapter has a unique map design)
but at the end of the day 50% of the game is just a content recycle from ogs and the story sucked balls. if you liked 4 and MX you'll probably hated it. also gaia saber's finale is anticlimactic despite being the titular villain.

The OG games used to be heavily codeveloped with TOSE, it's not the same as the team working on most mainline SRWs (they did work on Impact and MX though, but that was all before the OG console games). Note the directors of those games haven't even been involved in the series at all afterwards (aside from getting a "Special Thanks" here and there, like Hideki Okada, OG2nd's director, in X).

There isn't really a "most complete" game since this isn't like Dynasty Warriors where they just keep adding content onto the previous one and retelling the same story.

They often reuse sprites (like J -> W -> UX -> BX, Z3.1/3.2 -> V -> X -> T -> 30 -> Y) but the series are often dropped or replaced from one game to another even when they're reusing assets, and although some plots are retold when adapting the same series (although sometimes with returning shows they just make their plot post-series, even if the game is standalone), the actual main story is always completely different.

You can jump in with the most recent game, Y.

The first "main" SRW with official English localization was V though, but alongside X and T they only had distribution in East Asia. Official worldwide releases only started with 30 (and CONSOLE worldwide releases only started with Y).

My guess is that it's a timing issue. So even a very popular series may lose its chance to feature in SRW because it didn't feature in it 2-3 years after it aired.
Macross Delta is from 2016, but because the newest movie is from 2021, it got a chance to be featured in a game. While Iron Blooded Orphans is from 2015-2017, but since no games featured it, and there was nothing else (movie, OVA), then it kinda fizzled out.
That's also why derivative stuff gets a chance (Knight's & Magic, Gundam AGE), but never get into the series again. They were lucky to have an anime series or movie debut/end during a game's development cycle, so they got in.

Of course, stuff like Rayearth, Arcadia SSX, Yamato and Bebop getting in was always because of popularity. But IBO isn't such a groundbreaking series, if you think about it.

I'd say just get them on NG+ because you're bound to fuck up the true ending anyways because you'll whiff a very autistic order of events for prebattle dialogue or NPC fight (I'm looking at you Riddhe, you little shit)

East Asian rank structures don't distinguish between land/sea/air, so every OF-5 (equivalent) gets it, you're right to notice some generalization compared to what you're used to. OTOH, sci-fi and especially mecha translation has standardized around the idea that an Earth Federation would probably end up using American ranks, so the generalization that this produces between tank crews and aircraft crews isn't as obvious as it would be say in even British English.
