I don't think I'd call it nonsensical either. He's got crazy far out visuals but he's always tied it in to some kind of clear point. There's a reason he transitioned so well from dudes kicking monsters heads off to slower, more realistic (well, you know) series like shigurui or gekikou kamen.
It's just the latter is more obvious "art" and easier to appreciate than the one with cock monsters and acid vomit. His career is basically split between stuff that gets a 2/10 worst anime ever and 10/10 it proves anime can be art, written by homos that run blogs.
