I must be the stupidest motherfucker alive. I didn’t realize Reconguista was directly after UC. Do we know how long after?

Not the stupidest, but certainly one of the slowest if you never saw discussions around here like this:.

No it isn't. Bandai confirmed multiple times by now that is before and Tomino said that regardless of what he wished it's up to Sunrise to deal with this shit.

It's after a version of UC that had various Space Wars, lost all the colonies and had a huge space elevator. So, it's really hard to give any dates, because it's clearly not the setting as shown in Victory or any other late UC work for example. We don't know for how long this "UC" went on.

Like already mentioned, Tomino actually intended to set it after Turn-A (and consequently the Dark History) and if you look at that all those events make sense (Various space wars, colonies leaving, space elevator, country names) were all elements from Turn-A's past (and note Turn-A's script itself also referenced the Dark History as a whole as "Universal Century" at times, even though Tomino told the staff to add references to the AUs too). Bandai/Sunrise didn't seem to realize that was Tomino's intention with G-Reco until after he talked about it in post-series interviews, which is why the visual references are UC-only this time.

Tomino is always moving forward. He's not interested in rehashing the OYW or the UC. Turn A is the "Defeat of UC". G-Reco is "Beyond UC". G-Reco is obviously a sequel to Turn A, what else could it be?

Tomino never paid attention to G/W/X very much because they weren't his works. He told the animators for Turn A to use their favourite designs for the Dark History because he wanted them to have fun. He was never making a statement about timelines.

Bandai decided Turn A is the end of all Gundam, not just UC. Bandai said G-Reco takes place before Turn A because Turn A has to be the end of all Gundam. It's a decision made by some Gundam otaku working for a corporation. If that matters to you more than the director's intent then your souls aren't ready to leave the Universal Century.

Why does it matter if it takes place before or after Turn A? What would change in either instance?
Anonymous No.23574189 [Report]
I still remember that quote from Tomino saying "I stopped making Gundam with Turn A" implying he only considers G-Reco Gundam in name. Im not sure if this means that G-Reco should be treated as unrelated (it sort of works as a standalone anime but there are a few small callbacks to newtypes that dont make sense without knowing gundam) or if he considers it a sequel to Turn-A despite not being part of the Gundam series.

The protagonist victories in all of the shows are always temporary in the long run. It doesn't matter what happens thousands of years after they've died and the world order that they fought for turned to dust. What matters is that we enjoyed the various shows in the time frames that are relevant.

Unfortunatelly, the owners of the IP dictate what it is and what it isn't. You can pretend Rey Skywalker does not exist, but she does. Ergo, G-Reco is before Turn A.

It was actually confirmed one or two years ago that both Turn A Gundam and Reconguista are AUs and not canon to UC.
The versions of the previous series that happenned in the black history are alternate versions of them that happenned in the same world (basically like a srw).

no you retard. Turn A and G-Reco are future calendars that take place after UC ends, they are not Alternates. It's same shit as AD calendar happening after BC.

They were both, retard. There literally was an official video that put them in the "Alternate Works" category.
Though i just checked now and in the official site they seem to have put them back on the UC category on their list (though they also include on that one Thunderbolt, Origin and Gquuuuux).

It seems they cannot make their fucking minds up with the timeline when it comes to the existence of alternate UC.

This is what happens when a society is mostly irreligious.
They begin to latch onto mythology in deliberate fiction to fill some kind of psychological void.

They both talk about their UC past, and Reconguista's past can't fit Turn A into it, but Turn A can fit Reconguista into it's past. Considering he wrote it I'm amazed he thought the opposite, even the cast/crew.

I've just watched the first episode and they directly bring up Universal Century so I don't get how the connection could be missed.
Also much of the terminology is the same such as 'Minovsky Particles', but I haven't watched any AUs yet to know how much that overlaps across universes.

I was planning this to be my last anime in the UC timeline before moving onto the AUs but after skimming this thread I'm thinking about pitting it on hold until after Turn A and watching G Gundam instead.

>My 2000 years lore canon shit is heckin' valid and real because some nutsos made an actual church about it
People have been debating the Bible's "canon" for literal millennia exactly like UCfags have been furiously debating post Z UC "lore", shit like the Song of Songs alone has severely riled up rabbis and christian priests alike since at the very least 200 AD because we have literal written records about those jackasses arguing with each other exactly like faggots on /m/ wildly speculate about shit like Wing Zero appearing in Corin's PTSD delusion.
If anything religious fervor is the same exact shit as otaku lore/canon wank, they're the same exact phenomenon but the latter is not acknowledged as an actual religion because Sunrise and Bandai came 2000 years too late, maybe things will change in a couple of centuries though, like Nadesico teaches us.

I decided to keep watching, while I can't speak on the nature of Turn A and how it's referenced G-Reco seems particularly focused on UC as it's past in a way that I wouldn't necessarily expect from the tidbits I've absorbed about Turn A through cultural osmosis.
I wouldn't have thought something set after 'the end of the universe applicable to multiple timelines resulting in a civilizational reset' would be so concerned about what happened in UC in particular but that could be me just lacking context.
Also I just found out that one meme comes from this.
