That's actually what I expect since they did that for Grendizer U as well (well, in that case, just gave Mazinger more of an alt form than an upgrade). They even have the perfect shot to do it since Kouji and Mazinger usually get destroyed right before Great starts. So you could easily have Kouji come back with Kaiser with an easy thrown line, "The Photon labs made it in secret with old plans by Juzo Kabuto.".

I'd be down for that. I love it whenever Mazinger and Getter crossover, so more of that is always a good thing.

Great Mazinger could use one. Otherwise? I think we're lucky to even have what we've already gotten. Even Grendizer U existing is a miracle, love it or not. I'm thankful they made Getter Arc, despite the quality. Just watch the original shows, honestly. They hold up.

You see, Dynamic Pro has a very bad track with its productions and more importantly, is a company that really needs a different support other than their limited toy line franchizes.

it lacks the resources to fund a properly produced anime series to the point you can consdier Mazinger Z Infinity a miracle that may take another 50 years to happen again.

So yeah no, I don't want another Getter Arc like anime made with leftovers from another anime, nor I want a poorly produced Grendizer U which only ignited the souls of Italians and Middle Easterns.

I want a 25 episode "Mazinger Saga" anime that goes from Z to Great to Kaiser (fuck Grendizer) in such short span, with decent animation (I'm not asking for Mappa levels animation, just decent animation) and a good soundtrack which I'm sure Lantis could provide.

They had a strong streak in the late 90s and early 00s with the Getter and Mazinkaiser OVAs, but then New Getter, Shin Jeeg and Shin Mazinger were all commercial failures, putting an end to that era.

Mazinger Infinity did decently and spawned a model kit line that ran for a few years, but not good enough to make Toei themselves invest in more Mazinger anime.

And then the Getter Arc anime turned out to be another misfire. Betting on 3d after Mazinger Infinity, but not having the budget for that. And, their extra shot with Grendizer U also was completely wasted.

I feel like making Kouji upgrade to Kaiser to take on the Vega seems like the most natural sequence if they were going to do a project like that. Well, they could make an original villain faction too, but they've never tried that even once with their animated Mazinger projects so far and if this show starts with old villains I doubt they'd suddenly go for something original.

mazinger edition z: the impact (ignore the stupid name). This is a modern remake/reboot of the original story, and it covers a lot of stuff from the other mazinger/go nagai shows. Its the go to mazinger anime.
HOWEVER, you need to skip the first episode, trust me. Watch the first scene with Koji, and then skip the rest of the episode. Watch the first episode after you finish the show.
The entire show is pretty short, only about 26 episodes. The music is great, the animation is high quality, and the VA is very good.

Mazinger Edition Z: The Impact, also known as Shin Mazinger Z, is where any newcomer should start unless you have no problem watching 70's anime. The original holds up really well, but its age filters people. It goes Mazinger Z > Great Mazinger > Mazinger Infinity (or) UFO Robo Grendizer. The Mazinkaiser OVA and follow-up Great General of Darkness movie are just a fun "what if" within the Mazinger story that oozes 90's edge, with Mazinkaiser SKL being something of an original loose future storyline within that world. Mazinkaiser isn't really canon to anything but itself, it's just a fun time and that's it.

I wouldn't necessarily agree that Shin Mazinger is a good place to start with Mazinger, but it is a perfectly fine show on it's own and you don't need to know what it borrowed from Toeizinger, Nagai's manga versions, Z Mazinger, Mazinkaiser OVA, Violence Jack, Groizer X, that one one-shot by Ishikawa, etc to fully enjoy it.

It is a bit more complicated than that.
Toei Mazinger anime took some liberties, but generally speaking people love it and it might be more influential than Mazinger manga overall.
That said, watching 70s Japanese shows isn't for everyone, so if that won't work out for you, you can try to read manga instead. In that case I can recommend you to check out the original Nagai runs. He had two of them and usually they are spliced together. First one was the original and second one was based on anime.

Yeah, Devilman anime is actually a loose toned down version of Maoh Dante. The idea of the Devilman manga was made in parallel to that.

Mazinger Z's original tv show is a kind of loose adaptation and in some aspects also planned in parallel to the manga, but they still adapt some content from the manga rather than being a completely separate project that just shares some names/designs.

Like with the main cast, the character that's most different between anime and manga in Mazinger Z is actually Sayaka, who can be hotheaded and aggressive in the anime, even having some rivalry with Kouji at times, while she's mostly just "nice" in the manga.

Yeah, it was sarcasm. Shin Mazinger is pretty much the perfect contemporary introduction to the franchise. Anybody arguing otherwise is delusional. Unless you anecdotally have a good success rate with recommending 1970's anime to people in your life, it's generally a hard sell. Mazinkaiser is short and cool, but expects the audience to know what they're being dropped into. Mazinger Z Infinity can be a nice introduction and made for boomers to take their grandchildren so they can see the classic robot mow down the original rogues gallery, but it's no true origin story that explains anything. Like it or not, Shin Mazin is the best piece of media positioned to properly introduce people to the series. That goes double for Tetsuya and Great Mazinger. Kaiser and Infinity paint him as a second banana failson. Even with the enigmatic and alternative origin in Shin which never gets followed up on, it's something. Would I recommend the Toei show over everything else? Of course. Is that a realistic way to hook anybody? Hell no. Haters can seethe about it.
