Besides the Gundam franchise, Gridman and Bravern are the only successful recent mecha shows with a long lasting impact, what made them such a hit with the masses? What could other creatives learn from their success?

Character designs that truly stand out. If SEED or 00 came out today they'd flop hard.

I want real robot shows to make a comeback, super robot and sentai are fine, but they just don't scratch that itch for me. Also, human vs human conflicts, enough kaiju and aliens.

I bet you didn't even watch the myriad of "real" robot content that came out in the past 10 years.

Bravern laser targeted a niche in a niche and stuck with it. It has longevity but not a genre wide impact.

Yeah they are just humans, that's what makes it stand out. How did you not figure this out yet?

Bravern characters look like they were made a 20 something Japanese gay man who lives off Skeb commissions and draws gay porn for his 200k twitter follow account, this is exactly why it stood out.
Anonymous No.23581521 [Report]

Japanese artists are more versatile, they might have a style but that doesn't mean they can't design or draw in different ways when necessary.

There's a new animated project in the works for Geass and next year is the 20th Anniversary.

Wasn't that almost exactly what happened, only with Pixiv instead of Twitter?

yeah, third wrapped
it leaned on weird sponsorships like facebook, google, Abe Breeding Program, so no clue about a future
that might be the lesson, re-enforced from Tiger And Bunny, "a sponsor's a sponsor"

You can't have infinite Mazingers unless you have an infinite line of helmets to pilot them.

Yeah, I want some proof that Bavern has had a long lasting impact. I'm sorry I (mostly) like bravern, but this reminds of the Gatchaman crowds hype guy claiming Crowds had five seasons, and was super influential.

Enjoy the pseudo-romance. There were fangirls who still claim the show wasn't really gay.
We need more shows where the mecha wants their pilot inside of them.
