/gpg/ - Gunpla/Plamo General
-=READ THE GUIDES=-

Welcome to the Gunpla/Plamo General!

For those new, please read our guides. We have many resources available to help you in many different aspects of the hobby. They're here for you!

For the unclear, "plamo" is short for "plastic model". "Gunpla" is thus short for "Gundam plastic model". Many different kinds of models are built here, ranging from mecha to planes, cars, musume, you name it! If you're new, you're gonna screw up. Don't worry! If you're seasoned, don't make the newbies worry!

And don't forget to report shitposting and spam. The mods don't browse /m/ too often, so it's up to YOU to help keep our general clean and civil!

>Why won't anyone answer my question?
Be more specific, and try to provide clear images if you can.

>Why are my pictures sideways?
4chan strips EXIF data when images are uploaded, including the orientation tag if it's from your phone. To fix it save out your images separately, or use an app that will rotate and save the images for you.
One easy to use app that works well on Android:

-= BIOMECHA GROUPBUILD =-

Build a mecha/cyborg with a visibly biological component integrated into the machine. This can include:
>Mecha that naturally have some sort of organic component to them (Evangelions, Aura Battlers, etc)
>Mecha that have organic elements attached/fused to them, willingly or otherwise
>Cyborgs, androids, and human with mechanical attachments/enhancements (Robocop, Kamen Rider, mecha musume, etc)

Send your entries to gunplaplamo@gmail.com with at least 5 photos of your finished build along with any WIP photos and a description of your entry.

Only giga-autists think a model has to be a perfect 1-to-1 replication.

FATCAT God Gundam is 1/80 scale. Why are chinks retarded and not using standard scales. It's just like that one Chinese PG Quebley that is for some reason 1/72 instead of 1/60 or 1/100.

Sorry I phrased that wrong with the "simulate". They are used to break up areas that would otherwise be mono colored parts if accurate to the line art. When painting, you do shading to achieve a similar effect, without having to change the whole piece color and only edges. It accomplished the same thing by making the parts more distinct and visually interesting.

This was a fun build outside of the head. There were a few parts there that felt like they were separate to bump the parts count (vents on the side). You still don't seem to get what i'm saying. 30MS are literall OCs, they have no established media, no source material, no fanbase. Literally just kitbash fodder with a generally acceptable aesthetic. FRS are character kits, they have source material and caters to specific fanbase. And if you are making theory about why are they making more female kits now, the answer for it is that they have always wanted to do that, but their early attempts were so fucking atrocious, everyone begged them to stop.

The fins are obviously Zeong and the head could come from a few different larger Gundam heads, but I'm a bit stuck on the torso. A Crossbone would clearly look the closest but the Crossbones are smaller than the Amakuza. I think the Gelgoog's or the Efreet's shoulders are the closest to the Amakuza's unless I'm retarded, but I'm open to better suggestions. The new P-Bandai OC one is cool at least.

Speaking of which, 30 Minutes Fantasy, an offshoot of an offshoot, added an IP-based series in Ronin Warriors, which allows you to use the OC Silhouette bodies as armor racks, something I honestly expect ever since the line was first released near the end of 2023. And if we try and piece Digimon together with the more Digimon-based Figure-rise Standard, there could be enough potential to create human characters from Digimon through either Figure-rise or 30ML's fourth line, 30 Minutes Preference, which is entirely IP-only.

Human Tamer. Maybe on a technicality if it were Frontier because the humans transform into the Digimon themselves. Though I doubt we could get more of that because Bandai hates Frontier, as they only just made Amplified KaiserGreymon, which never even had official pics before the release week and only stuck with a goofy-looking CG render. Despite that, along with the official naming of the Digital World: Shambala earlier this year and hints of a soft world building for the now-named Eastern Digital World through Beatbreak's Digimon, they could give at least Susanoomon a pass due to all sorts of unused joints on KaiserGreymon that are meant for the final combination with MagnaGarurumon, which we'll learn more about either at the end of this year or next year. And I shamelessly want physical toy versions of post-Xros Wars Digimon as of late, and Beatbreak could do so because, again, promoting the Shambala server and all that.

most of the adhesion come from the setter, so technically yes, you can just invert the decal, but sometimes some decals don't have any color underneath so be mindful of that

Oh, thanks. So details for that are around December's list reveals. Knowing them, it will come out in June at the earliest. But now I wouldn't go past them to suddenly drop some blanks for the Figure-rise Standard line in regards to potentially new members in the Tentei Hachibushu appearing in Beatbreak (though I have a thought they could push their numbers from eight to ten not just to fit in a Tsukuyomi expy, but to match with each member of Frontier's Ten Legendary Warriors so that each of the Tentei Hachibushu get one element to inherit). And I really want a Siriusmon and Regulusmon.

Personally I think anything 1/120ish is still going to be fine. You can get away with 1/100th to an untrained eye, there isn't much intrinsic to most gunpla to denote scale unless you open a cockpit on something or use an included figure. But anyone that knows Gundam well enough and has a decent eye for scale will be able to tell that level of mistmatch, let alone something like 1:87.

If you live in any reasonably sized town or near one, chances are there's something like a maker's club or similar that you can use a 3D printer at. Hang around any local hobby store and someone will probably own one there too.

colours being broken up by a different colour isn't a colour theory thing, what? Colour theory's about complementary and contrasting colours, but it's pretty crazy to say "no white doesn't break up blue because colour theory." Bro what.
>the original version is lacking that white to even break up the blue
it literally isn't, they have white in 99% of the same places except the TFA frames the hip cannons in blue and makes the head jewel white. The only area I think they fucked up with is the head jewel. Probably would rather it be red with a white v-fin.

Yes, the blue makes the wing tips jutting out the shoulders blend in more and I think that's good. The fuel canister black tips look nicer than the orange to me, though I'd really just make them blue too.

You should look more into that to see the ambition Bandai had for MG back then. People tend to overlook this, but MG Zgok is what i would call ahead of its time. They managed to translate the wacky limb design of the anime to an articulated model and it worked. Instead of just another heroic gundam, they made this goofy shit, invested in it to give a very detailed innerframe. It shown the potential MG could have reached, which is tragically, never will.

Z'Gok and Gogg are both outliers with funky limbs that are actually not too complicated to do, I feel like you're overrating the difficulty somehow of making segmented limbs as a model. Right next to them however you have shit like the GP03 and RX-78 1.5, the G04 and G05, a lot of kits that despite similar simplistic designs weren't close to achieving what Shining/Spiegel/God/Wing/Strike could in articulation. The Ground Gundam and Zeta Pluses are from the same time too and I think hold up decently well, but they're still hobbled compared to the AU offerings.

I don't care for the God's hands but I also don't really care since they look alright on the shelf and I never wanted to pose it with anything held in them so whatever. They're a flaw, but so are all the hands of every other MG of that time period that can't hold a basic rifle for fuckall.

I like the basic Astrays (red flight, blue full weapon, blue second G, Amatsu and Amatsu incomplete especially) a lot. They're good designs. Outframe and Testament, Dread and Hyperion too. Once they start giving them giant swords I'm pretty much done with them though. I've bought three MG Astrays, anyway.

Yeah, it sucks. For as popular as the Astrays are they make it about as hard as possible for me to get the ones I like. I wish anyone but me liked Second G. It's a simple part variation they could just release anytime instead of needing two kits to be bashed together and painted. Full Weapon Loadout would require some extremely basic new parts for the over-missile pod but there's really no reason it shouldn't exist now, it seems to be a pretty well liked config.

Discovered that mark setter and softer are both paint destroying demon liquids. It's not too bad but it looks a lot less clean now. At least it can be played off as hastily hidden battle damage. I am just fortunate that it didn't fuck up the paint through the primer.
Going to need to invest in some enamel based clearcoat for the future.
So far as the design, I have decaled it as a blitz company ace unit. I just have to think of a good name and arm it.

did you coat your surface properly with a clear coat? Also I've only seen softener destroy paint, but only if you touch the decal and it's surrounding area too soon
Anonymous No.23586395 [Report] >>23586408

It went right through water based clearcoat and the lacquer based paint. It didn't get through the primer luckily, so no red is showing through.
From now on I will be using enamel based clearcoats exclusively if I plan on decaling. It's just weird that it hardly reacted to the lighter paint at all. It just really hated the dark olive.

How the fuck did you even apply your setter? Usually you only just need a drop or three depending on the size of the decal. Did you slather it on the surface or something? Also setter shouldn't damage lacquer paint. Odd that yours did.

Yeah it's really odd what they're describing. Granted I let my paint cure, I've never had Mr Mark Softer or Setter or the microscale ones or tamiya's damage any paint ever. I use it over tamiya acrylics exclusively, rarely with lacquer thinner but most of the time just acrylic with acrylic thinner.
Anonymous No.23586419 [Report] >>23586423 >>23586425

24 hour cure time on the paint and enough softer to get the decal wet. I probably let it sit too long.
Anonymous No.23586423 [Report] >>23586431

wait, did you wet the entire decal with the softer?
Anonymous No.23586425 [Report] >>23586431

So an at-home solution is a very diluted solution of a tiny bit of vinegar in distilled water. Softer is just an acid to melt the plastic, so you use very very little and specifically where you see an issue.

When you're first starting out, the Tamiya one is kind of...hard to fuck up. My kids use it and it works well to do both. You slather it on below, then roll the qtip over it to set it in place and remove excess, then slather it on top. Works great.

Gaia nazca flame red, it's the only lacquer I used. The silver bit on the left mask was done with a marker (pilot super color silver) and the regular panel lining is just tamiya panel liner dark gray. I started using lacquers for hand painting small details like sensors mostly because I can't be assed buying enamel or acrylics of the same color
