People who want 90% of the budget and half the runtime of the final movie to be dedicated to him being riddled with bullets

I just really like the direction and photography

I'm just genuinely confused why this is so praised. It's good for what it is, but the Davao scene sucked and that was suppose to be the big punchy scene as per the trailer. Even the F91 intro scene had more weight to it. Everything else is LITERALLY setup. There's like no big payoff in the movie because it's just prepping for the next 2 movies.

It doesn't deserve the hate it gets in /m/.
But it also doesn't really deserve the praise it gets elsewhere.
It has a lot of great stuff, but it has very big detrimental flaws as well.
It really pisses me off that we didn't get a better look into Hathaway's philosophy/ideals and what motivated him to study, and later agree with, Char. I hope the 2nd movie touches on this and fills in with the stuff we see in the novels.

We get that in the movie though when he's talking to the Cab driver, and in CCA he's a really impulsive kid who rushes into action. It's easy to see how he developed this way from that standpoint.

Fuck yeah this is the coolest mecha action ever made.

The actual gundams looked like tumours, I hate them.
But the action scenes were pretty good. Seeing a fight through the lens of civilians was done pretty well.

I haven't been keeping up, have literally any of these movies managed to capture half the energy of F91's opening? The movie eventually devolved into TV level animation, but goddamn that opening lives inside of my brain. Just the apotheosis of Tomino's frenetic directing and casual violence. An army of mech's breaking into a place, wrecking it, all while shouting they're here as friends to liberate everyone.

new SEED, Unicorn Sequel, Tomino project that will get Gundam label slapped on it and maybe something for 50th anniversary.
