When it comes to Gundam, the original is always the better option with the exceptions of the 0079 movies, where it's not a straight up better or worse situation, and G-Reco, where the movie version is much easier to follow, you can ignore every other "redux"

the funny thing is, Unicorn wastes also the few ZZ references it has. I mean, Marida is just a discount Puru Two burdened with cheap-ass rape drama, Angelo is discount gay edgelord Mashymre and his more distinctive mech is worse looking Hamma Hamma.

No. People still refuse to watch ZZ or understand that the reason Zeta killed off most of its cast by the end was to have a clean slate for the new cast, and thus the reason Kamille doesn't get mindblasted in ANT is because the compilation creators had no intention of doing ZZ and were just skipping to what happens at the end of the show.

What makes the G-Reco movies easier to follow? I haven't seen them. The same extremely convoluted sequence of proper nouns and relationships would surely be harder to follow with less runtime, right?

26 episodes condensed into 5 movies isn't as bad as other gundam compilation films that try to cover ~50 episodes in just 2 or 3 movies
IIRC someone did the autism math before and the runtime of the movies isn't too far off from the runtime of the episodes after cutting out the intros and endings, so they don't need to do stuff like cutting out entire story arcs

It's cut a bit better from scene to scene. Also G-Reco benefits a lot from binge watching, so people are comparing the week to week of the TV show to the movies in either a 3-7 episode binge with a few month gap, or all 5 movies at once.

It's easier to follow because you're supposed to watch both the show and the compilation movies at the same time. Therefore you retain information better.

The movies have a bit more exposition. Little actual new information, it's just the information is given to the viewer is arranged somewhat differently.
