So now that it's been out for several months, how do you feel about the Gundam TCG? Or does anyone here even care anymore? I've not been able to play in person myself, I've played on the teaching app and with some online sims. I do like the game but between lack of supply, scalped prices, and a thin playerbase in my area I'm hesistant to spend money on cardboard crack again. I don't wanna end up with another collection of cards I don't use anymore. Also the lack of flavor in this game is kind of a shame. The Tekkadan cards hurting themselves to get stronger is fun but otherwise there just isn't much.

The fact that this hasn't been bumped in a hour answers my own question I guess.

Pretty sure it's already dead outside of Japan.

One of my local shops did an event for the newest set but I never called to see how many people were there. Friend in another city told me his LGS had a group of about 5 people who played it. Yeah I think this fucking thing was essentially stillborn.

None of the starter decks had cards from series I liked without having cards from series I hate mixed in. With so many divisive series there must be a lot of people that dont want to pay money for cards they dont even like or be starved for releases waiting through boosters for series they hate

I play in japan and the bigger problem is the lack of shops hosting in tokyo.

With the app, people also reserve spots months down the line and just cancel last min. Wish the app was fucking better.

It's just another Duel Masters clone from Bandai isn't it? It looked like one from the descriptions.

I played it at a couple local events. The cards are cool to have if you're a Gundam fan. The local players though are sweaty at the game, it's all about winning and not letting new players enjoy the game.

The problem with the game is simple:
Bandai is so shit at selling anything Gundam-related, only one hobby shop went through the pain of actually getting them.

It’s difficult to tell because the short supply is preventing players who want to play to be able to buy decks/boosters. Lot of resellers and scalpers from other card games bandwagoning currently. I hope eventually they will go away when they realize the number of people who who would overpriced gundam cards is extremely small. The boosters are finally showing up in Target/walmart and they shelf warm compared to pokemon, etc.

If you mean it's difficult and so it's tough to figure out, try the SEED or IBO starter decks because they're busted compared to others. Feddie+Witch deck is fine too for the healing, Project V token units spam, and resource boosts.
If you mean it's just not good by itself, I kinda agree. It doesn't feel like it has very good TCG potential, although I'm not autistic about TCGs, I only played every deck against every deck in the online version.

I mean it feels like there's no real progression, tactics or setups. You just keep beating each other with progressively bigger sticks through an obscene amount of defenses (bases + Gundam's version of the security pile, not counting defenders) until someone wins.
But again, maybe I'm just not seeing the proper way to play. The only other TCGs I've played are Digimon and before that Yugioh.

I must be living in some Gundam Goldilocks zone. My store routinely gets 15 or so people for its locals events and both of our set releases had around 25 or participants. They're supply has been good too. Everybody was able to buy two boxes of GD02 at the release event. The manager for the store is a massive Gundam fan, so that probably helps a lot.

If I want to play control/resource denial/hand destruction, are there cards that allow me to do this?

It's like the whole game is built around win more mechanics as opposed to any real strategy, which is probably why Rush and Ramp decks are so common in the meta.

With any card game outside the big 3 you're dealing with luck of the draw. There's enough Gundam nerds in my area for shops to carry a bit of gunpla but the question is whether or not said nerds are into cardboard crack too.

As far as I know, only for control, like deployed Amuro forcing an enemy unit to rest (great against blockers), or Kira neutering an enemy unit for like -3 attack points during his own attack
GWitch Unforeseen Incident command card neuters for like -3AP for a turn

GKek pilot and command cards let you play peek-a-boo with the deck you draw from
Could possibly work with force-drawing from MA Gundam
Whether any of that is good enough to focus on is to be tested

The game is designed with that you typically don't accumulate much of a hand if the game is going well for you. Resource denial would be cool, but I didn't see anything like that in the starter decks. Except for the GWitch raccoon reactivating 1 resource point when she attacks

One of the SEED pilot cards also can bullshit an enemy unit back into the hand, so that's technically a waste of resources of the enemy because the unit has to be deployed in the next turn's resource pool

Went to a draft that was postponed due to bandai supply fuckery. Good turn out but due to said supply shit they'll only be selling to those who attend the games from now on. Was actually pretty fun even though I lost hard. Wish it had more flavour like calling the resources newtype energy or minovsky particles or something.

I tried out the demo deck at the popup. It was alright but like >>23601581 said, that's how I felt as I just shitted more units on the field while trying to get a pilot to tell them they fucked up. I'll stay with digimon.

Felt like the older iterations of the tcg (Gundam war and Nex-a) had more hype.

This game is by far one of the worst ways to find social interactions with fellow Gundam fans.
1. Buying cards and decks is more expensive than just buying a gunpla kit and building it with others at a hobby club or shop.
2. You are absolutely expected to join discord servers, check instagrams, and maybe even suck LGS dick to even have a chance to attend these special events. No one, not even you, would care if you go because it is always the same closed circle of scalping assholes who hog all the spots and leave nothing for newcomers.
3. Most players who play this game competitively do not give a flying fuck about the series, mecha or characters. Even if they may know where each one comes from, talks are always strictly about the cards, prices or the state of the game. Literally no-fun-allowed.jpg

yep. the starter decks contain cards which are ONLY in the starter decks, so if you're wanting Wings, Aile Strikes, etc you're gonna have to buy 2 copies of the starter ( as it's 2 copies per deck).

it's bullshit because each of the starters have chase rares (Aile Strike, Wing, Grandpa, CharZaku) so they need to keep printing these decks of the whole game is fucked.

I live in a small city in a third world country, so the only tcg shop around here didn't have any gundam stuff, so i had to order a deck (wing one) and convinced a friend to buy another one (ibo) so we could play against each other. We only ended up playing twice: once on discord and the other time at the shop.
I feel like I'm playing shadowverse again, like you play a unit, the enemy kills it, and then you kill the unit that killed yours.

It's a Bandai card game, it's not great and not gonna last that long, but it is an excuse to get cards of Gundam suits and characters you like
