Some people say that Tomino is some sort of genius. But the whole thing is actually super dumb.

In one year this happens:

Gundam gets transfered from side 3 to the base on earth.

THEN ONLY THEN the feds begin the mass production of the GM.
One explodes every second in the battle of A Baoa Qu, so I guess they made somewhere near 5000 units at least.

THEN WE HAVE FUCKING 10000x Variants of the Gundam, a fuckton of prototypes, in one fucking year.

Zeon watches their Zaku II get btfo by the Gundam, and then design and mass produces the gelgoog which has a higher performance than the gundam.

Tomino should have made it more realistic, and made it last at least 3 years.

It's not dumb. The show lasted one year, why not integrate that into the story itself. It's the only reason they did it that way.

Anon the show wasn't written with the idea of it being a long running franchise in mind, no one could have predicted what Gundam eventually turned into. I think the main reason it was such a short war was to make the sheer scale of the loss of life hit harder. In a little over a year half of humanity is fucking dead.

That has more to do with latter installments made after the fact jumping into things. Don't blame the original for not forcing how bid shit would be milked especially when Tomino probably didn't have a lot to do with any of this. You're an idiot.

They had the ability to produce and sustain MASSIVE space colonies; cranking out mobile suits and their variants seems within that industrial capacity & scale possible in 1 year (not including the years of military buildup and tension).

The White Base complains the entire time that they almost never get to stop and rest, just go go go.

They had already started mass production toward the end of Operation V, just not mass deployment until they had Amuro's combat data to make the switch to mobile suits easier for the majority of their forces.

Hard to call them ALL (if any) canon besides the Ground Combat which was just a GM with a Gundam head, but all of them, outside of most of the RX-78 designations, were essentially pet projects for different groups and internal factions who wanted their own "Gundam".

They were morons who kept rolling out prototype after prototype because no one could decide on one design to keep improving upon and the higher ups wanted an instant win weapon, otherwise it was trashed. Which is why they lost. By the time they perfected the Gelgoog and began producing it, not even truly mass producing (there were a ton of older models being fielded at Solomon and A Baoa Qu) due to factions scheming and having supplies redirected all over the place, they had already run out of time and soldiers.

But most importantly, it was to sell toys.

Operation V was on Side 7. Side 3 is the Principality of Zeon.

08th MS Team showed that the GMs were in production long before Amuro got into the cockpit of the RX-78-2.

8 months actually. It helps that the bulk of the prototyping was already done by the Zekes for building the mobile suits. So only Tem Ray and his team was responsible for was developing the Gundarium alloy armor to defeat regular Zaku mobile suit firearms, the learning computer to quickly assimilate and disseminate combat data, and miniaturizing beam tech to mobile suit sized.

They also produced the Dom series, the Gouf, the Gyan, and its endless parade of limited Mobile Armors.

Less than a year. Colony drop is like early mid January, Gundam is prototyped and produced by September, the actual show starts late September and follows them around till New Years.

If you take into account all the OVA's and mangas and ignore the contradicting stuff they also include, they had the RX-78-1 operational by June but it lacked and combat data, learning computer, and the core fighter was still in prototype phase. From that they put out the RX-79[G], RGM-79[G], and variants by July so the Federation had their own MS in the field from that point on. Earth and the space around it just happens to be a really huge area and minovsky slows down communication by a lot so most of Zeon wasn't aware of or didn't have enough data about EFF mobile suits until the White Devil appeared and started really wrecking shit.

The OYW was written only with the original work in mind, merchandise and additional material wasn't really accounted for.

The Zaku 1 was a wonderweapon. It made the conflict largely one-sided up until the RX-78 and the GM. Zeon kept rolling out prototypes because it wanted to replicate that effect.

Consider that it's literally The White Devil. Some new prototype with an ace pilot should crush it, this time for sure, and shatter feddie morale. Worst case scenario, new combat data is obtained, and the tech branch that doesn't work is discarded from fighting anything Gundam-like. If anything, zeeks should have rallied up to throw more fringe stuff at it instead of infighting and delaying helping each other.
