Now that Toei is "ending" Super Sentai, now it's time to revive Metal Hero series

Honestly, KR nowadays is pretty much Metal Hero series. Hell you could even argue Kamen Rider Black RX is a Metal Hero series in a KR show

For the last time, it’s not ending, it’s being rebranded. There’s literally another season coming next year

Rumors say there won't be teams nor humanoid mecha, and that it will only run for half a year.

With how the market is these days and how much red wank they do they would probably benefit from abandoning the team in the title and have a titular hero with friends for a while.

That basically sound more or less like what they're doing

There is another tokusatsu show being made by the staff that usually made Sentai, but the indications we have suggest it will deviate quite a bit from the "Sentai" formula.

If this was about not making their money back, they should have pulled back on the massive amounts of self-wankery that's been going on since Gokaiger, making all those toys representing old series and such.

That worked to save Ultraman, so they tried it with Sentai. It's also really only been a heavy element since Zenkaiger.

It seems like they crunched the numbers, examined what was well received in the last 5 years and came to the conclusion that the 5 member team formula was actively hurting the franchise since it meant you needed 5 guys always together two of whom were typically superfluous and they always had to be good pals and show up in every episode because the team needed everyone to form the robots and do the finshers. It also meant robots had to be 5 combiner brick toys from the start, let alone what was added. But since 5 member teams are Sentai's thing if they're dropping it they might as well rebrand the show to see if that improves things. It doesn't help that PR doesn't use Sentai footage anymore (assuming it ever gets going again) so they're not inclined to keep it going for their sake.

So their solution assuming the leaks are right, is to pear it down to the minimum, hero, heroine, funny guy and drop the whole team joined at the hip thing. They're still friends and allies but like Kamen Rider where not everyone suits up every episode or even appears. And they'll add other characters later, but some will be rivals and even enemies and not be shacked by Sentai's rules of everyone becoming pals quickly because their mecha need to combine. They can have guys like Abarekiller and Stacaesar without obligatory half assed redemptions and just have straight up evil characters like Ouja. Meanwhile Sentai can take a backseat and still sell legacy merch to the old popular teams people still like and have TTFC specials from time to time.

Ultraman and sentai are different markets. Ultraman has been a manchildren territory only for decades while sentai has a normie audience (kids and some adults)

PR is a dead brand that's trying to cash in on MMPR nostalgia. And Hasbro seems to be actively trying to devalue the brand even further.

I do always find myself wondering what traits the people who want Metal Heroes back think would make it different from Heisei/Reiwa Riders.

Presumably them mostly sticking to one suit with one mid show upgrade over the constant forms KR has.

You really think they wouldn't make it more toyetic if they brought it back now?

I just...what even defines "Metal Heroes" as a franchise? Sentai has teamwork, matching uniforms, and combiner mecha. Rider has the Cross of Fire theme and once upon a time used to have, y'know, actual riding. Like on a bike.

Metal Heroes is this weird blanket under which I'm supposed to believe Space Sheriffs, Robocop-Ripoffs, Jiraiya, and B-Fighters are all the same IP? I guess the connective tissue is in the name, literally the one thing they have in common is the heroes wear metal. They've all got power armors. But, again, every Rider since they stopped being cyborgs is that, so...

>it's just a rebrand honest

Keep telling yourself that.

Don't be surprised though that next year, the majority of super sentai content will be released by Giga and not Toei and TV-Asahi.

I mean, Metal Hero was a retroactive term. All those shows weren't originally made to be part of the same franchise in the first place (although they shared production staff and timeslot).

Although, generally, you can say the defining factor were the full body metal suits. Even that had exceptions like Blue Swat and Jiraya. But it's the closest element you have to something unique and consistent. Even modern Rider rarely looks heavily armored like Metal Heroes did.

Also, Metal Heroes was still running for a decade after Black RX and it never incorporated form changes. That's really a Rider thing in the end rather than Black RX being like a Metal Hero show.

They won't give this new show a bunch of form changes and transformation trinkets because that's Rider's thing and they don't want to compete with themselves. I'm sure they'll have some toyetic gimmick but it won't be that
