Red Gundam is honestly probably the worst of the set, the colouring is kinda boring for me, I was even half tempted to paint it a more Char Red, but the overal design is still pretty cool and you get essentially Premium Bandai accessories to go with it, like the Bits and the Gundam Hammer.

The GQux is probably my favourite so far, the very functional aesthetics and colour separation to the design is extremely cool.
The Gelgoog is a really fun build and way more complex compared to your standard GM style HG.
I've still got the GFred and Light Guncanon in my backlog, so looking forward to those, and I'm going to pick up both Dom variants when I can.

I was considering the GQux, Gyan, or Dom. I like the UC Gyan, the Dom looks interesting, and the GQux design looked interesting independent of how the show ended up being.
I'd drop everything for a Kikeroga though.

Sorry, issues for the HG rather. Briefly skimming before bed, it's the polycaps being too thick for the arms/shoulders connecting to the torso, and it might stress or tear. I think I conflated that with a lack of thigh swivel.

Brush works well for varnishing but you might need multiple coats and it usually ends up as a very thick layer so spraying is usually better for visible joints.
Always handpaint varnish if you don't have an airbrush, most cans suck and the cost really starts adding up when you need to varnish multiple kits. The only good Matt I found that goes well on acrylics is Mr Topcoat Premium while any decent gloss should be fine.

I haven't had a problem with that, been able to get some good poses out of it.
My main complaint is the Zaku's thicc thighs really limit the movement, so much so that its kinda difficult to get it to just stand by itself on two feet.

I have been busy with work so I can't work on this kit daily

the thing is that the structure of the frame of the arms is plain terrible, very flimsy and the elbows are held together with glue so any range of movement is a no no

the connector to the torso whcih holds the balljoint where the arms fit came out straight of tetris with parts that fit and are supposed to be held together by mere friction so you can already guess how that will go

then the blades of the shoulder armors, you have to glue each one them one at a time, there is a pseudo inner frame inside which have slots for the small pegs for each blade to be glued, but the contact surface for that is minimal and honestly it is a miraclw they are not falling off

you are supposed to glue 2 tiny armor parts for the outer blades, but they are so small I was sure I was going to end up making a mess so I ignored those

if this thing ever falls off a shelf it won't fucking survive

Anyone have experience using The Arm Painter brand on Gunpla? I need an alternative to the 'big names' (Mr Hobby, Tamiya, whatever) because they are always out of stock/overcharged in Canada, this one seems to be the best alternative for price/availability but no idea if its Gunpla safe, it is sold for miniature use.

Does coarseness matter for joint strengthening?
Right now I'm using nail polish with a very glossy finish and I'm wondering it it's actually making the joints slippery. It kinda feels like it.
Am I schizo or not?

Just bought the Blokees Evangelion kit and holy fuck it's good.
All the pieces are pre painted and there are many parts that don't have runners, it almost feels like lego. Even the metallic finish on the purple parts is great.
Only downsides are that many parts are a very tight fit and the hands are super fiddly to get the weapons in.

When you pad the joints, use matte acrylics. It is the most ideal for strengthening and provides friction.

I've tried to tighten joints with acrylic gloss varnish and, while it held itself in place, the second I tried to move the limb it'd end up slipping out. Stopped being a chore after I used acrylic matte varnish instead.

It's not nail polish so idk how the chemical composition and how it'll interact with plastic (especially since some kinds of nail polish will melt plastic to some extent, unlike acrylic paint) but yeah I also feel like gloss finishes make joints slippery and that you're not schizo

What should I pick as my first gunpla painting project? I've only painted Imperial Knights before this, so I want to expand my horizons.
