Technically, L-Gaim is a prequel, interquel, and even a sequel within FSS.
Nagano's early L-Gaim artbooks and concepts were carried over in the initial chapters and guides for FSS. They even listed Pentagona planets like Mizum for instance.
I always saw L-Gaim as an alternate timeline; very akin to the FSS continuity but enough differences (at least in the anime) to say that there exists 2 parallel universes that did convergent evolution. Instead of Fatimas, the "Silhouettes" we saw in the Mark-2's and Original Auge's foreheads were female A.I. (similar to Rei from Layzner) to assist the pilot instead of outright android women being Headliners for Mortarr Heads in FSS.
And seeing how the 40th anniversary was celebrated and promos for DVD/Blu-ray was promoted, there's still a solid following for L-Gaim in Japan. And the fact that it was featured in SRW 30 and SRW Y.
I hope we can get a modern update of L-Gaim. As in a cleaned-up rendition of the 1984 series (along with Nagano's original ideas and everyone else's). Especially the last 10 episodes because L-Gaim's staff was rushing it to get into Zeta Gundam. Like explore more of Posaydal's backstory about his rebel days and rise into power. And what the Yaman Clan were like and if they did indeed torture and kill Posaydal's parents as he claimed.
