>a brave idealistic young man with a chip on his shoulder, has the desire to attempt to keep Char in-check if he becomes corrupted in his ideals
>somehow a cyber-NewType gets tricked by a bazooka and shield switch and lets a top ace get on his blindside

Iron Mask is getting some development in the F90 mangas, and I think Gyunei is getting time in the spotlight in parts of Moon Gundam.

Glemy and Ple Two were handled messily though and I agree they need more development. Sadly ZZ is just now starting to not be utterly hated in Japan so it'll probably be a while before we see anything yet.

ZZ and CCCA both need major rewrites/redoings

Gyunei thinking he's the real top dog only to fall for a basic ruse and get instantly vaporized is perfect. It's pure gundam.

ZZ just abandons its characters and rewrites them totally to fit the new mood. Turning it into a serious show half-way through was a mistake.

It hurts watching a character you like get written out only to return as a Cyber Newtype. On that note, did Cyber Newtypes become a metaphor for radicalization after Zeta or am I reading too deep into it?

Char's huge 180 in CCA is way worse though. CCA was a mistake, all the early UC stuff should have been resolved in ZZ, really.

Already in Zeta Char was talking it was necessary for mankind to leave the Earth.
CCA is just him no longer caring to be nice about it while also wanting to have one last duel with Amuro. And even there Char was still honoring his rivalry and wanted Amuro to have best MS against him.
