I'm genuinely sorry if my doing well is making you feel worse. I actually thought long and hard about whether I even wanted to say I was doing well in this thread (or even on this site) specifically because I know there's a lot of people here who are NOT doing well and may very well get bitter and jealous because of my post.

The thing is... I wasn't saying that to brag, I was saying it to show that you can get out, it can get better, you can have a happy life, because I used to be a lot like (I assume) you. I used to be in a really shitty place. Shitty enough that the pistol sitting three feet to my left started looking mighty tempting. I was like that for years. I even thought I was going to be homeless for a while there--me and my wife both. And our relationship is by no means sunshine and roses all the time, we have fights sometimes, even really bad ones.

But over time, I found the right cocktail of meds, I found the right mental state of mind, I found the right people, and I seized the right opportunities to make everything finally start working out, and for the first time in literally over a decade, I feel like things are gonna be okay. It's the seizing opportunities that's most important--good luck is a myth; luck is simply when opportunity meets preparation. If an opportunity comes by and you aren't prepared, that's bad luck; likewise if you are prepared and can take it, that's good luck. The key is to increase how many opportunities you have and prepare for as many outcomes as possible. That mentality combined with a solid work ethic will get you very far in life.

I decided to celebrate by getting my ass out of bed at 5am and heading to the pitch to kick the ball on the goal until my legs gave out. I'm assuming the ketogenic diet is all of a sudden overpowering the fatigue, otherwise this wouldn't have been possible in the slightest.

Speaking only about the first 5 seasons, I'd say she was portrayed... okay. She's flanderized fairly often when she isn't the focal point of the episode. Like that one flutterfag who said he hates Dash because she traded Fluttershy for a book. Surely he doesn't actually hate her just because of that one scene unless its just autism. Regardless, I don't find it believable that Dash would even consider betraying her friends or Ponyville for the Wonderbolts after Wonderbolts Academy. She already chose loyalty to herself and her friends over the position once, so why have her go through it again, and in a much worse way?

You might be surprised, but I actually don't dislike her at all. In fact, I don't really dislike any of the mane six. I would say that my appreciation for Rainbow Dash is not quite at the same level as the others, so, I want to understand how her fans perceive her, and through that I'd like to gain a better understanding and appreciation of her, myself.

I know plenty of anons will groan, but I'm someone that prefers the very early seasons' portrayal of her, leaning a little more towards season one, though I'm conflicted on how I'd actually want to see Rainbow portrayed as a character. It's difficult for me to describe what I'd like to see, I guess.

I'm not sure what I can add about MMDW that hasn't already been said by others, but, I don't think Rainbow was necessarily in the wrong in the episode, I think the problem is more that had the mane six just acted more like friends, and talked to Rainbow first about how they felt she was letting it all get to her head, that the whole episode would be completely negated.

I personally (maybe controversially?) have a dislike for how she was portrayed in Testing Testing 1,2,3, because of the fact that the very mare who idolizes the wonderbolts and wanted to become a wonderbolt herself for a long time prior to the test, somehow knew nothing about their history. It would definitely be a subject that Rainbow Dash would be schooling Twilight on, rather than the other way around as in the episode. Also, I don't like the reveal of how she actually learns, just seems like it's tacked on as an excuse. I think the episode is a disservice to her character, like the writers were portraying her as being dumb for no reason.

I don't think it's a contradiction, but it's definitely a balancing act. She wouldn't be Rainbow without her brashness and overconfidence, and I don't want to see it diminished just to make her more traditionally sympathetic. But I also don't like when she's written as if she's emotionally stunted, like when she tosses a baby up in the air or tells a filly she'll never be as awesome as her. That's a gross exaggeration of her ego and need for attention. There should be that softer, more vulnerable side to her, which is why I love episodes like Sonic Rainboom, Hurricane, and Flight to the Finish. They get the balance just right. She's loud, competitive, and full of herself, but in Sonic Rainboom, that confidence is clearly a shield for her deep seated insecurity, while in the others, she's shown being gentle, supportive, and compassionate when it really counts. I rewatched MMDW, and I'll give it some credit. Like the other anon pointed out, the "I'm still awesome. They're wrong. But then why am I all alone? I hate being all alone" scene is great and shows one of her core insecurities and explains her attention seeking behavior in a way that I love.

To be honest, I hadn't really thought about Testing's setup like that, but yeah, she probably should've known all the history of the group that means so much to her, if only through osmosis from years of idolizing them. In reality, I imagine she'd treat Wonderbolt history in the same way she does Daring Do lore. She'd find it boring to learn about general history in a forced education kind of setup, but if it's about something she really cares about, then she should be super into reading and learning all about it. Still, I can't bring myself to dislike the episode as a whole. It has way too many cute Dashie moments that make my brain feel good.

Thanks for asking these questions. Putting my thoughts into text has really helped me understand my own feelings better too, and reminded me why I love her so much in the first place. I think I'm even more in love with her now.

I grew up with parents that, although they did try their best to take care of me, at the same time there were a lot of fuckups they did to me that quite honestly I'm surprised I even stuck around even in spite of everything
Maybe it was because I had no other choice, could've ran away sure, but that would've made life a lot more difficult for me to manage
I've had some moments where I legit wanted to end my life, but I'm glad I didn't, because my parents slowly ended up improving, and while before I wouldn't really trust them with anything in my life, nowadays I get along rather well with them, especially my dad, I go exercising with him rather frequently and generally I feel open to talking about pretty much everything with him, even stuff that I would've otherwise hesitated to mention even 5 years ago, made me kind of scared even thinking about any timeline where I simply ran away and didn't talk with him anymore and I didn't get the chance to truly repair my relationship with him, but at the same time I'm really glad that it turned out this way
Point is, if someone that did shit to you that most people would resent their parents for the rest of their lives for ended up trying, and kept on trying to change himself for the better, and if I managed to repair my perception of said person to the point where I'm open with him on pretty much everything (literally just the "pulling your dad from the underworld" meme, kek), anything is possible
You just have to keep going even if sometimes you'll end up experiencing setbacks in your life

I only played through both the games recently (did remember seeing something about Klonoa for the longest time but never bothered to check it out), I don't regret it in the slightest, holy fuck are they amazing, the atmosphere's great (at least for the original PSX and PS2 games, haven't played the remasters), the platforming mechanics are unique and fun, soundtrack's an absolute banger and is probably the main thing that even made me give the series a chance in the first place, and the stories for both games are pretty great too
The ending for the first game did fuck me up though, moreso than the second one I wanna say T_T
I still need to play through the portable games, both on the GBA and Wonderswan. I've heard those don't hold up as well as the mainline entries but for spinoffs they still hold their own fairly decently

Heroes is that RPG one on the GBA, isn't it? Admittedly I didn't play many traditional turn-based RPGs if at all, the gameplay style didn't really appeal to my ADHD-addled ass all that much

Figured I'd ask because there was an actual pilot anon who dipped in. Anyway, the last time I posted about all this was the day I took the AFOQT. It was the last requirement I needed to fulfill before going up for field training selection. I scored abysmally and it didn't help with my other qualifiers being average at best. Needless to say, I wasn't selected for field training. I was supposed to go this summer. My commander felt that I was an honest cadet and that I just needed more time (typically you're nominated your sophomore year of the program but I'm on an accelerated pathway and this was my freshmen year). He's giving me another chance and I'll go up for selection again this winter. I've made some great improvements to my qualifiers already. I'm taking the AFOQT again in August and I think that'll be my biggest battle. If I miss the shot again, I'm 99% done for good with this mission. I'm starting to feel that I'm not meant to be a pilot or an officer, but I know Rainbow Dash wouldn't want me to quit and make that determination for myself without giving it all I've got first.

My actual goal was 30 days, and I wouldn't call it loss of motivation per se, the problem is quitting something you occupied your entire days with for over 2 months when it's something as dopaminergic as weed, is it leaves you with deep emptiness and depression because you don't know what to do with your time anymore and don't feel like doing anything either... which completely absorbed me once the fatigue stopped primarily occupying me mentally

But this time I'm dedicated to actually go back to speedtrooning. While obviously worthless it's something to reasonably pass a lot of time with and should be able to occupy me for enough hours of the day to hopefully not give in, and it actively encourages me not to smoke as I cannot possibly remotely match my actual skill level while stoned or 'hung over'

I know this is a controversial episode because many anons consider it OOC for Dash to not know almost anything about the Wonderbolts despite her obsession, but it has always been one of my favorites because of how much soul it has. Amy Keating Rogers was a treasure.
I think that's what changed the most between the show I loved and that late travesty I grew to hate. Even when the characters were dumb for the sake of the plot, you almost always could see that the writers loved them and wanted to see them succeed. Outside of a couple episodes, that love was just gone in the last seasons. Some people defended the last seasons because "they ponies have always been dumb" but I couldn't care less about dumbness, to me the pure love you can see in this scene was 100% what made this show.

I love that she achieved her dream but in "Wonderbolts Academy" I kind of hoped that it'd end in her not becoming a Bolt, realizing that they really aren't what she thought they'd be.

I'm an MLP newfag, so I'm entirely removed from the discussion of Dash not knowing anything about the Wonderbolts. For me, it was less that she didn't know, and more that her excitement about finally getting her shot combined with her ADHD making it almost impossible to focus in a testing environment was causing her anxiety to skyrocket. What I got from the episode is that Dash -did- always know the material, but started to convince herself she was stupid and didn't know anything because she couldn't perform the way the examiners and Twilight wanted her to. It wasn't until the final flight that Dashie got the emotional support she needed to realize she's not stupid about the Wonderbolts, and gave her the motivation to take the test even if it is difficult for her. This was, for me, an episode that shows how important loyalty is for Dashie to be successful. When Twilight only criticized her, she got very depressed. When all of the people in Dashie's life came to her rescue, she was able to succeed.

Again, I'm a newfag, so maybe I'm repeating talking points everyone else has shared, and maybe others have already "disproven" what I'm thinking, but that's how I feel. Dashie has several in-universe problems, some of them seemingly contradictory. She's shown to be both super-chill but also incredibly excitable. She's shown to be both easily distracted but also single-minded. There's also the criticism that other ponies are better examples of loyalty than she is. Yet, considering the people I know in my life, Dashie has always been realistic to me, because I've known people like her, contradictions and all. Yet one thing remains consistent: Dash is the Element of Loyalty not just because she's brave to the point of reckless in defending her friends, but because she inspires others to be loyal to others. If Dashie wasn't worth it, then all of those ponies wouldn't have worked so hard to help her succeed.
