I... I did it. I wanted to see what the fuss was all about, so I watched a few episodes of FiM. I expected a girly, cringey cartoon for children. However, what I didn't expect was to enjoy it. I binged the entirety of season one in less than a week and am now halfway through season 2. The personalities, the colors, the surprisingly good writing... it just roped me in and I think I can feel the obsession start to set in. Is it over for me? I'm not sexually attracted to any of the characters yet, but am I doomed to become a horse fucker? I'm worried this might've been a mistake, but it's too late to turn back now.

That's because, in the beginning, it wasn't "a kids show", it was a morality play, designed to teach lessons about friendship. The friendships in the show are real friendships, not the pile-of-assholes-forced-together-by-circumstance-and-they-all-hate-each-other "friends" found in most shows.

For me, it's quite the opposite. The first two seasons are not bad, but starting from the middle of the third season, I began to really enjoy it and ended up watching it until the end. But it's worth noting that I've been in the fandom for quite a while, but I didn't want to watch the series so I wouldn't be disappointed, as you said, because I really liked everything that was done in the fandom. However, the series surprised me a lot, but as I said, I only got what I wanted from the third season onwards.

You know, now that I think about it mlp was the first show in a long time that actually gave me likable female characters. S1-S3 is the golden age, with S3 being the black sheep of this era. Unbridled kino.
S4-S5 is the silver age. Still great, arguably more epic, but it doesn't have quite as much soul (snowpity) as the golden age.
S6-S7 is the bronze age. Still good, but starting to lose some steam here.
S8-S9 is the dark age. Bad episodes were few and far between up until this point, now they are frequent.
