I couldn't bother with UV unwrapping and texturing so those are actually small hand-made meshes wrapped around the hair.

that reminds me, I've been meaning to ask someone with experience in 3d stuff what they would recommend for me to do here
I'm not all too familiar with 3d modeling/animation, but I want to get into it with pony stuff, and I'd really like to use the leaked gameloft models for them. But from briefly trying to play around with posing one, the rigging seems really weird
Is this workable? Should I just try playing with it and getting used to it? or should I attempt re-rigging or just look for different models to use

the two tail bones aren't connected, the legs are all connected bones but they don't actually connect to each other, the four wing bones can be ignored (unless the pony I'm animating has wings ofc), the head bone isn't connected to the jaw bone, and that bone out in front is for props (books or apples or whatever baked into the gameloft animations)
I'm probably using the term "connected" wrong, but looking at how they move in the animations hasn't really given me any hints. Like when they open their mouths the jaw bone both moves vertically and rotates in relation to the head
I just really have no idea what I'm doing and idk if it's just a "git gud" situation or if the models are actually just bad kek

I'm assuming that:
- you would like to pose these models and render them in Blender, perhaps animate them,
- you don't want to use the already existing animations from the gameloft,
- you want to do this multiple times, in other words it's not a one time thing.
If that's the case - personally - I wouldn't use a ripped rig like the one in your pics. As you said, it's difficult to work with.
IMO you should learn Rigify and re-rig it yourself. It'll take you an evening or two to get familiar with it, but once you're done you'll have rig that's easy to work with, has IK, hip bones, bone shapes and all kinds of other bells and whistles.
If you're not familiar with Rigify, the way it works is you lay down these simple reference bones like in picrel and it generates the fully featured rig for you.

When it comes to tutorials, I would recommend CGDive's videos, they are concise enough and also don't skip over the important details.

First three videos from that playlist should get you started and maybe the fifth one with the dog/quadruped in it. My rigs are based on the "Basic Quadruped" Rigify preset.

Can attest to this, whilst I don't rig any of my pony models since they don't need it, I have ported models and rigged other stuff. Imported rigs don't generally import the best. Really it just looks like the bones are all scaled up and rotated a bit. Do what this feller said and try and learn it yourself. Rigging is a huge pain, imagine if the process was automated.

I read the first one. I like Gear Tooth and Sublime, they're nice OCs, and overall the story's pretty fun. Couple things stood out to me, but I couldn't post them the other day because I caught a 3-day (wrongly) and now upon skimming I only recall this specific one:

In line 6 (paragraph 6?) this sentence is waaay overwritten:

In general I'd suggest trying to pare things down here and there. It's an old saying, but a story isn't done when there's nothing left to add, it's finally done when there's nothing left to take away.

Thanks, was finally able to get a decent rig with the basic quadruped preset. It beats the shitty manual rig I was making by a lot.

Now I just need to figure out how to make foldable wings for her. I’m at a complete loss. There aren’t many resources on making foldable rigged wings, especially stylized ones. I’ve been looking at ripped assets from Smash Bros and Wind Waker but still have no idea. I saw that a common method is to use a 3D mesh for the front of the wing and textured planes for the feathers, but I'm not sure if that's the best method for a 3d platformer where you see the wings all the time.

Too bad I dont have a bucket, because I would show you how a bucket of pegasus wings looks like.

You can take a look at the pony model I posted earlier. She has wings opening animation like in vid related. The way I did it is there are two wing models: closed and open. In animation you start with closed wings, animate them to make them as similar to the opened ones as possible and then in frames 6 -7 I hide the closed wings and swap them with the opened ones (in my case I animated the scale to 0.01 to hide one of them).

Hey, thats... really nice. The instrumental is great, wish it was longer. Voices starting before another finished was trippy

so earlier today I was being harassed by Youtube noticing my adblock and blocking me in return, I rememberd how as I kid I was able to use developer tools download video directly, couldn't figure it out again today but it made interested in html.
Long story short after all of today fucking around I figured out how to make things clickable and even move me to Other html's documents in the same folder
It's fun trying new things.
