After nearly 14 years of letting it really sink in, I think The Best Night Ever might be my favorite episode. It's the one I find myself thinking about the most; everything about it just makes me happy, and the nostalgia is so potent.

Such a wonderful tale about the true value of friendship. All their hopes and dreams come crashing down, and yet they find joy in failure, because they have each other to share the failure with. It's a beautiful message, one of outcome independence and valuing shared experiences with friends, rather than getting everything you want handed to you. My heart soars every time. It's really funny, the songs are great and the atmosphere is kino. Truly a perfect episode.

Shit taste. Pick a better episode like Secrets and Pies.

The Best Night Ever? More like the "The Worst Night Ever". We chose the wrong path in the branching path leading to the shit that is alicorn twilight.

ngl, Secrets and Pies is kinda fun. Stupid, but fun.

Completely agree, OP. It is also my favorite episode, and the only finale that I don't have some kind of issue with. Party on!

If only some of us including myself were less hopeful and faced reality better by laughing at it at the right time.
I mostly did during 2012-2013, I checked out when Hearth's Warming Eve aired with that atrocious lore & excuse for a christmas episode and I was watching El Tigre at that time. I was very happy that season 3 was only 13 episodes long while every Hasdrone was sucking dick for more episodes.

Celestia: Oh Twilight, The Best Night Ever is always awful. BNE being a stand-in for MLP.

Best Night Ever was trying to tell us that everything is crashing down and MLP is reverting back to the trash that is G3.5 baby cuties and G1 Tales
Best Night Ever's ending was a premonition and a warning for us all to pack our bags. It aired on the 6th of May 2011 and on the 8th or 9th of May 2011 Lauren Faust had announced she quit.

You know the difference between the Mane6 and the fandom?
The Mane6 weren't a bunch of gen-Zombies who joined during the summer of 2011 who didn't know who Faust was, didn't watch S1 and started the show with S2 Lesson Zero & Luna Eclipsed.
If Faust was still under control of the show there would be 2nd Gala.

The fandom full of dumb teenagers was sucking Hasbro's/ the gala's dick. Or trying to pull a Mane6 going there for the wrong reasons but unlike the Mane6 the fandom succeeded in writing shit content and enjoying shit content and making it all about the fandom rather than cartoon shows in general. The fandom is no better than Hasbro.

I get this, but 20 minutes of the episode is the Mane 6 being miserable, followed by about 30 seconds of Twilight saying "Well, I guess the REAL Gala were the friends we made along the way!" then everypony laughs and the episode just ends. The lesson doesn't feel earned, but abruptly stated outright at the end.
I think Best Gift Ever did the solidarity in failure resolution better. It's an episode with its own problems, S9 meme faces/moments and especially that scene with Marble, but it's overall a much more enjoyable episode for me.

My favourite episode is Art of the Dress. It's just a really fun episode.

How did this lead to Alicorn Twilight? It at its core feel like it stands against everything Alicorn Twilight really stood for. I'd argue something like S3 premiere and S2's finale was the 'wrong path taken'.

It's a great episode but the song gets a little ruined when you listen to this and realize how much Ingram stole as usual

Yep, sorry. Got mixed up. It's my favourite song so I think about it a lot - the first song I listened to before I really got into MLP that made me think "holy shit I actually like the pony show am I a fucking faggot?"

These are the four aces of S1, the undeniable S-tiers. I know many would understandably suggest Sonic Rainboom, but that's more of an A-tier episode overall.

Damn, that's almost worthy of a lawsuit. Still, though I'm clearly biased, I think At The Gala is much better as a finished product, but that's still not cool.

Where's the lie? Like I said, I get why many rate SR as an S-tier, but you might be the first person I've ever come across that doesn't love CMC.

Not him but the quality of everyone's backstory was sacrificed simply for the sake of having the spectacle of the rainboom. Not to mention the rainboom itself was also stupid on its own merits. A well intentioned but horrible executed episode that missed the potential of giving the m6 so much more depth.

Cutie Mark Chronicles I can at least understand because it gives backstory but I'll never understand why so many rate Sonic Rainboom so highly, I can't suspend my disbelief enough to believe they'd ever allow Rarity and Dash to perform at the same time (and also Rarity being that much of a cunt but that's a little easier at least) and it just ruins the episode for me. And I'm pretty sure I'm also missing what people see in it beyond that.

I didn't really like Best Night Ever, I get the idea is the ponies had unrealistic expectations but the actual execution was that they were stupid and out of character. Why is Applejack trying to sell food as a guest at a catered event? Why is Rarity a gold digging whore? Why does Twilight expect to monopolize Princess Celestia's time? Also thousand doesn't rhyme with diamonds.
