You know how much city planning or trade negotiations Twilight or Luna have done? Fucking nothing. Everyone is obsessed with the world ending threats they think I should fight, but the minute I point out the free health care I have to work to maintain everyone goes quiet. And don't even get me started on Cadence, who can't even manage a basic meeting with the Equestrian Games representative. Fucking annoying. Go do actual princess stuff, because apparently everyone else got the pamphlets mixed up or something and thinks "Princess" means "Beat cop."

It was the start of a story that's unlike any other. A long tale with dozens of writers across so many years. We saw ups, we saw downs, and we saw our Princess fixing things and becoming the Princess we knew she could be.

At long last, the story had concluded. Our heroes made it to the end, and got their happy endings.

Applejack and Celestia won the God-Battle, The CE Crew got mass married, and everyone got an epilogue last chapter showing how they all ended up. Well, everyone we could fit, we might sputter out one or two more here just for giggles, but officially yeah, the story has ended. Applejack fixed Equestria and took over the reigns.

Thread 1 Applejack spontaneously gets turned into a princess by a frustrated Celestia and a series of crazy events unfold around her and a MASSIVE extended cast. I am not exaggerating when I say characters like Shining Armor have no fewer than 10 arcs and mini arcs around him and we literally benched him for over a year. A YEAR.

The vast, vast, VAST majority of threads are mostly one shot silliness, mostly in script format of

And so on. They're just snippets of something funny happening like Celestia breaking into Applejacks bathroom because Luna clogged hers or the Crystal Empire folks watching a movie or having breakfast and shenanigans ensue.

And then we break out into giant ass arcs that span multiple threads that focus on (Mostly)serious events such as

As mentioned, very subject to change as the story goes on, with one exception. Main Six remain friends throughout and they'll always be their very best friends.

But other stuff? Very changy. Stuff like Celestia being a little miffed at Cadence being less than great as a Princess(Because that's what happened in the show and we did comedy) or Shining wishing he had wings is subject to change either rapid or very slow burn, especially in the first 5 threads when we had no idea what the fuck we were doing. For instance, bit of a spoiler but I won't say too much, Zecora, Mayor Mare and Trixie will eventually become friends in the early threads(around 17) thanks to another character and develop more as it goes on. Applejack gets a student and things go... pear shaped. Some characters click right away and some characters take forever to get their rapport going. Some characters start romantic and drop off, some start off very distant and end romantic. A LOT of enemies end up not-enemies and some kind of fluctuate between "Hate" and "Need them desperately at the end of the world" to "You know? Not the worst." and so on.

I never really ventured into the Princess AJ general but just seeing this feels like the end of an era. Godspeed frens

So this one's not so easy because there is actual progression and development in both directions, enemies become friends and friends become enemies. It's not a soap opera with "GASP! You're cheating on me.. WITH YOUR BROTHER!" or anything silly like that, but yeah sometimes you get Applejack getting so cheesed at Shining she starts to throw down then later on they're literally best friends who share each other's bathroom and it ain't no thang(NO ROMANCE on that pairing by the way, if you're worried.)

That's very hard to describe without going into detail because outside of a VERY select few, it happens over the course of like... dozens of threads. Any romance is one that needs a lot of work.

Outside of one at the very end that's honestly a little disappointing, but I wouldn't worry too much about that. It's a thread that has occasional romance and when it has it, it's great and developed, but I'd say a solid 97 percent is non-romance.

We kept most canon romances, except ones that weren't actually confirmed in-show. Like if the show didn't say they were in a relationship, we left it up in the air but might've hinted very strongly at it. Like a certain butter pony...

Of course we added a bunch of other romances on top of that, but that's a story I'd say go read about. One of them went from me going "I hate it" to saying BEST PAIR is all I'll say.

It didn't stop, it ended. As in we reached the end of the overarching narrative and then had epilogue stories showing where the dozens of characters ended up in one way or another.

If anything our last “arc” was pretty much just a filler ending after we capped off two massive ongoing stories with the god fight and the wedding. Why? Well we wanted the main six to do something together and do something unrelated I guess.

Gotta say, props to y'all for having an end point instead of making a forever story. People often fall to the temptation to make endless sequels trying to stretch a story or characters out ad infinitum, and it takes some personal strength to decide enough has been told and the story's over.
Congratulations, guys. You've accomplished the most difficult part of writing a story -- letting it go at the end.

Celestia makes Applejack an alicorn because she has a low opinion of Twilight, Luna, and Cadence's abilities, and thinks Applejack can do a better job fixing Equestria's many problems. Then what starts as a bunch of somewhat disconnected posts about Applejack and other characters fixing things, gets built on by other writers and spans into a decade+ story full of actual progression and character arcs. It's like DC/Marvel comics in terms of continuity building, but without the constant retcons and reboots and hatred for foundational characters and their traits. But it's all come to an end this week, with our final arc and epilogue having been wrapped up, as everyone more or less agrees that we're pretty much tapped out on where to go from here.

I knew this was too controversial an ending to land on so I kept it out of the epilogue in favor of other characters. As such, it is not canon, but since that doesn't matter now...

The twinkle of magic precluded a ripped of light across the massive doors before her. Twin monoliths of steel and stone, each one capable of holding back the full might of an enraged dragon should they challenge it. Even that defense felt paltry to the myriad of spells and enchantments that dispersed at her words, turning from dangerous to harmless in an instant. Only when the last rune promising death to any who tried to break it fell away did the massive barriers swing open, and allow her inside.

Beyond those doors lay an impossibility, the small seeming room contained within it a full lush field complete with open sky and clouds above. Despite seeming no bigger than the ballroom to any who walked by, the Princess had quite a bit of a walk for herself as she walked on the wind swept grass, a pleasant scent tickling her snout as she made her way through the plain.

A barrier unseen fell away just before she touched it, the glass like edges rippling and shining off the false sun as they folded in and carved a path for her. Merely walking through that barrier put her hairs on end, tickling her cheeks with the power charged through them made to contain that which no other could.

She whispered as she came up to a seemingly empty spot in the field.

That was when the last illusion fell away, and a simple log cabin could be revealed. Small, quaint, homely even. Something that wouldn't look out of place on an Apploosan farm, and just as unassuming. It was such a stark contrast to the symbols upon symbols, runes upon runes denoting of magic both alicorn and creature unknown. More power lied in that barrier than in any one alicorn that sat upon the throne, and it was obvious from just their sight alone.

Even so, that magic was nothing compared to the chill she felt when she walked by shards of black stone, feeling her own spells die on her horn and her wings lose their luster in an instant. It was as if the breath inside of her had been sucked out, and she felt weaker in its absence. All of this preparation, all of these barriers, all of this was not to contain the most powerful magical artifacts on the planet, neither was it made to house a horde of the most wicked of their foes. No.

All of this, was for the mare sitting in the rocking chair, humming to herself.

The off-lavender ears perked up at her name, and the mare finally returned from wherever her mind had wandered off to in her boredom.

Sometimes, she wondered if she was repeating herself for her own sake, or the other pony's. Sometimes she worried time was simply slipping away for her, its why this routine was so important.

Not that she seemed to care, at all.

"You have to understand, it takes me so much longer without my magic. I suppose I could use some feathers, but... oh, dear."

The princess had to make a note to keep from rolling her eyes when the mare reached back and found nothing there. Even now, after all this time, she liked to remind everyone of what she had once been.

"Oh, you know, I slept wrong and have a bit of a kink in it. Guess I'm used to a bigger bed, you know?"

Just out of the corner of her eye, she spotted the unicorn pluck a near-white foal from their crib, cradling the crying thing as gently as could be.

With a worry in her heart, and determination to never see it come to pass, the Princess set off, leaving the mare to cradle the child, and start to make a bottle.

Do not take that as a knock against what came before or as a thumbing nose to the previous stories, she was great in Partyland, funny enough to be top-tier with Celestia at the start and the Cordyceps Ride is still one of the most epic things in the thread. This isn't an insult.

But looking back on it, yeah, we were struggling with giving her both conflict and stuff like action scenes that were meaningful. Like Cordyceps was a great test of character resolve, but it didn't test who she was, as a character. Partyland was great to showcase her friendship, but it didn't show her grappling with big questions, and by the start of it we didn't really have a good grasp on how to make that work. It wasn't even started because of her, it was an arc based off CADENCE'S problems coming to light! Cadence! Applejack was just doing a comedy field trip.

Again, not knocking what came before it, but for me personally that was the first time all the parts of it worked. She had a deep dilemma! She got to struggle with Princess stuff and not get an easy answer! It brought it home to Ponyville to clash with her two lives! And more than that, it wasn't just the talky parts, the clash with Chrysalis was a fan-fucking-tastic action scene that hit both emotional beats, character beats and just plain had cool ass powers. Lets face it, cool ass powers are always a big plus. And we got that, and a truly unique feeling weapon in the Harmony Apple, a real tangible threat, defiance of common tropes like the bad guy getting the weapon so it must be destroyed without choosing it, and so on. Apple Crazy was the shot in the arm the thread really needed, and I'm grateful.

The only thing with morals like that is it requires AJ to basically be in the right while every other member of the mane 6 is in disagreement with her, and for the conclusion to ultimately be "we should have just listened to Applejack". The only problem with that premise is that when you really look at it, the show was actually weirdly super averse to having her be objectively in the right whenever there was an in group disagreement. Whenever there was a disagreement between her and another member of the mane 6, it was either all her and only her who's wrong(Bats!, Honest Apple) or a situation where both parties are wrong(LBYS, FWF, NCC), but never one where it's just her who's right. Applejack was basically only allowed to be right and tell the truth when it was in support of another character. But any time she went against the grain of the group, she was always in the wrong for doing so. When you notice it, it's actually insane just how often the show bent over backwards to basically never take her side in a disagreement.

Super Squeezy is the episode the post in that pic is referring to. There, it's mainly just the Flim Flam brothers, none of the mane 6 or her family are against Applejack, and even RD calling for cheating isn't really treated as something super wrong. If you compare Super Squeezy to the likes of Swarm of the Century, or Dragonshy, it's a stark difference.

Yes they are, they full on shut her out when she was trying to tell them not to do the contest. Then they were hard against her bringing in help because family. Pretty much everything anyone except AJ did vs the Flim Flam brothers was the wrong call and as soon as everyone listened to her, it fixed. And of course Dash was actually all for the brothers being allowed to make cider themselves for obvious reason and argued with AJ on it, only to accept that wasn't right later.

Was it? I don't remember anything about RD feeling guilty later on. And besides that, they all still are helping AJ throughout the entire episode, unlike in those others I named. Just keeping the focus on RD, compare her here to how she is in Dragonshy. She was way more antagonistic and against Fluttershy there as opposed to how she is here, where she's still helping on AJ's side. And while the others might have thrown out ideas that were shot down, they pretty much all still immediately did as AJ said, with none of them really opposing her. And I don't remember any acknowledgement from her family that the entire situation would have been avoided if they listened to her either.
Any case that can be made for the others not listening to her here are all pretty minor compared to the episodes other characters get. Aside from the two I already mentioned, you also have Suited for Success, or Sonic Rainboom, or ACW. None of the ponies in this episode were really against AJ the way ponies were against the focus character in any of those episodes.

Yea, but again, she still was actively helping AJ. It's not like she refused to assist or was siding with Flim and Flam during the competition. She's still an active participant on AJ's side. Same goes for the rest of them. They're only "against" Applejack in the most token way possible, but are still listening to her and doing as she says. When you compare it to the handling of the other episodes and how much the focus characters of those episodes were being underestimated or opposed, the group isn't anywhere near as against AJ as it is against the focus characters of those episodes.

Sure, but it's still ultimately a moral about how she should have been more supportive of RD, while when it comes to AJ, there really isn't any episode where the characters don't provide enough help to AJ when she needed. And even stories that could have had that, like Bats or the chapter book, the narrative still goes down for the other in the scenario and treats AJ as in the wrong.

I'm just gonna point out I skimmed through Dragonshy and literally ONLY Dash is being a jerk during the mountainclimb and everyone else is just encouraging her the whole time, and even when she's yelling at Fluttershy she's still insisting she keeps going for the most part.

If Dash wasn't "Against" Fluttershy, she would've left about 5 minutes into the episode and just gone home.

I guess ultimately it didn't matter but I liked reskimming.

I'm not really sure what you're basing this on, pretty much all her lines are bitching about Fluttershy's presence, and at one point outright asking if Twilight still thinks it was a good idea to bring her along, which pretty much all but directly states she thinks they would be better off if she wasn't there.
And besides, my greater overall point in that comparison was about how much more antagonistic RD is in Dragonshy compared to Super Speedy. RD underestimates Flutters and is much less helpful than she is here, where she's still an active participant in the competition for AJ's side. In the context of the story, she's far more in the wrong in Dragonshy than she is here.

I guess but then don't we also lose the comparisons in, say Swarm of the Century, Sonic Rainboom You can't argue that Rarity was that bad. Or what about Suited for Success? The point is that it's one member of the group either going against the rest or being underestimated by the rest, which never happens with AJ. She's the only one who is basically never allowed to oppose the group or be opposed while also being right.

Yes, exactly. AJ is only allowed to be right when there's an antagonistic force for her to be right against. But if she's in disagreement with just someone else in the group, she's always either equally wrong, or the only one who's wrong. Super Speedy is the only episode with an 'AJ was right' moral, and it's the only one where the main opposition was an antagonist, not another member of the group.

She is literally physically pushing her to continue on in that scene, and again, never tries to get rid of her. Is she annoyed? Yes. Does she say "Go away"? No.

But again, her family does. She is being dismissed in that episode by a friend, that it's not Twilight or Dash doing it doesn't really change the situation that she is actively not just being ignored, but dismissed in her warnings that prove to be right.

She never tells her to get gone, though. She still is there when she's unsure and helping her in dangerous situations. Being annoyed by it is vastly different then telling her to go home and being proven wrong for doing so.

Which brings up the second problem, Fluttershy's not in the right here. She wants to go home. She wants to quit. It's Twilight and Pinkie and Applejack that encourage her every two seconds. How's that comparable to Squeezy where she's just outright in the right while also being dismissed by a friend?

Yes, now you're starting to understand. When you rewatch season 1 through this lens, it's strange that Applejack was the only member of the group who's focus episodes were mainly about her learning a lesson, and nobody else. In other character's focus episodes, like the aformentioned Pinkie, Rarity, and Flutter episodes, it's about the rest of the group learning a lesson from them. Meanwhile with AJ episodes, all her episodes are about her learning a lesson from everybody else. And for the most part, the only time other characters are in the wrong and learning a lesson is in the dual focus episodes. Applejack is basically the only character who is in the wrong and learns lessons in her own episodes in the first season. Like my screencap said, she's basically only ever right when she's supporting another character, with Super Speedy being the only real 'AJ is right' episode, but giving an antagonist for her to be 'right' against, rather than just the rest of the group or another mane 6 member.

I see your point, it's the lack of having both sides of it. Like season 1 obviously had the others be outright wrong in their episodes, like Party of One Pinkie not believing in her friends and she's wrong while the others are right, or Green Isn't Your Color for Rarity where Rarity is just outright wrong in the situation while Fluttershy is in the right. Or as mentioned Feeling Pinkie Keen, where Twilight's wrong not to just trust Pinkie being Pinkie. But those of them had times where characters had to go "Yeah we should've listened to you" rather than the skewed JUST them learning lessons. I think the only other example is actually Fluttershy? She's always in the wrong in her episodes, including Dragonshy where she was wrong to not want to go talk to a dragon for some reason.

She really should've been in the right during the Spa episode if nothing else, but we know from the Email leaks why she didn't get a fair shot by then. Too, what's the word they used? "Hickish"?

You mean Applejack's Day Off? Yea, that really should have been an instance of the other characters not listening to her, doing the job wrong, and showing that AJ has good reasons to do things the way she does. You know, kinda like the moral Family Appreciation Day had. But Instead, it's just another 'Applejack needs to listen to everyone else more' again.
It comes up in LBYS too. AJ spends basically the entire episode being correct, but at the end it says she should have listened to Rarity? Even though Rarity caused the conflict in the first place by not helping prune the trees like she was supposed to? You can't even say she was right about how AJ shouldn't have caught the tree about to fall. Yea if AJ had done nothing it wouldn't have hit Twilight's house, but it was about to fall on someone else's house instead. All AJ's actions did was effect who's house got hit, but you can't really fault her for just trying to prevent someone else's house from getting crushed, especially when Rarity was doing nothing to help the situation. I juts don't see what it was that Rarity was 'correct' about in this scenario, yet the writing treats her as being right, to the point that it's Applejack who apologizes at the climax.
But yea, ultimately the real problem is that the writers were unironically prejudiced against her because of her archetype. It's both funny and fucked up about how many Applejack stories ended up being about how she needs to be more accepting of others, when ironically she's one of the least judgemental characters on a case by case basis, and it's usually her who's being looked down on.
The writers just hated her for being southern. That's basically it.

It absolutely does, the moral was about her believing in herself, not anyone else believing in her. The narrative made it clear she SHOULD stop acting like that and go help and her doing that saves the day, she's wrong to think she can't do it.

Yea, it's AJ's Day Off you're thinking of. It's even worse frankly because SOTC, Feeling Pinkie Keen, Family Appreciation Day, Canterlot Boutique, etc, it's always the opposite. Any time any other character has some eccentricity or odd way of going about something, it's always justified and actually really good, and other characters just don't understand it. But when it's Applejack, and ONLY when it's Applejack, all of a sudden it really is just her being inefficient and stupid and needing to be told better. Every other character is justified in having wacky or unusually complex ways of doing something, but not AJ. It's a weird double standard where she's basically the only character who isn't allowed to do things that everyone else does. It's like that classic "the complainer is always wrong" trope. Even if the positions are swapped around, the designated complainer is always incorrect, even if the position they hold was the correct one previously.
It's gonna take me ages to go all the way through /pa/. At least there's that pastebin that has most of the first 1/3 of all the threads. That should save me a bit of time.

In the darkest pits of the darkest room, a light split along the floor. Out from the hallowed wall it crept as the door opened wider, as if to illuminate a path where only those among the light may tread, knowing they were surrounded on all sides by shadow. It was within this room that the near-white Alicorn crept, her hoofsteps steady and powerful as she walked without fear into the dim abode.

She spoke his name, and as if it called him from the ether of the void beyond he was revealed on the other end of the wide room, enshrouded in a silken robe worthy of a lord and lounging upon a silken couch even longer than his large frame. He regarded her with narrowed eyes as he sipped from his champagne flute, the deep red liquid inside hanging to his lips even after he pulled away.

"Dear Princess Flurry Heart... I have not been a King since before your birth."

She scoffed in turn.

"Hmmm... doubtful, I'm afraid."

Her voice echoed into the room, and rattled the glass in his magical grip

I'm going to be honest with you, when I delved to the power of shadow and might, I thought I was an all powerful super being that none could possibly match... only to find out here in the future, I wouldn't even be a top three contender. Not even a top five, perhaps! Nightmare Moon was stronger than I was, and that's not even going to Discord. And you know what the consistent thing with all of them is? Harmony stomps. It curbstomps. It shoots a magic rainbow and you're done. Ooooo look at the fancy crystals and super magic-zap. Oh dear I lost. I exploded, Princess, I literally exploded. Not figuratively or in some oddly metaphorical way, boom. Exploded. Felt my skin ripped off, was not fun. You'd think Harmony magic would be all nice and fluffy, but that thing has a mean streak when it wants! It is downright vindictive, sometimes! Boom! Oh, you think the dark magic of giant crystals will help you? Rainbow attack and oh no! The horror! The horror! Ahhhhhh boom. No chance to block, can't fight back, can't do anything. Dead or rock, your choice.

The whole army seemed to go quiet with the entrance, all of their attention shifting between the new arrival and the armor adorned Changeling at the front of it all. She, with her new crystal garb bedazzled with victory medals and stars, turned to face the Alicorn with a cold and cruel look.

Older though she may be, with a few more wrinkles on her previously perfect chitin and scuffs on her polished hooves, she was every bit as intimidating to the trained soldiers when she flexed and they could witness those powerful muscles rippling beneath her tight fitting underarmor.

The guard went rigid, preparing themselves for whatever may come, hoping their hooves would stay on the ground should the blast be strong, wondering if indeed this was the time that had been foretold in the prophecy. If this was to be the day, would they be ready? They did not know, when the Firstborn Alicorn moved closer to their Captain.

The apartment in the bustling city of Filldelphia was quite unimpressive, even by the mundane standards of this part of town.

A tiny thing, with little room to stretch ones legs and even less room to get creative with the space. Anything more than the couch, kitchen, table and chairs was already asking for too much, let alone the small bed shoved in the corner that doubled as a dresser.

Even so, the earth pony who stepped in felt at ease in this room, her tan coat and red hair both seeming to let down as soon as she got into the room, her own little sanctuary. It was a shame, that this peace wasn't to last. As soon as she shut the door, she felt it. Her hairs standing up on ends, eyes turning dangerous, and the room feeling just that bit hotter as she scanned the entire room in a mere second. Hadn't even taken that long to see the figure sitting in the chair near her window.

"Evening, miss Rose Apple. I hope I'm not catching you at a bad time."

The room got hot, real hot, before a smooth lavender claw reached out, and clicked the lamp on, finally illuminating the square jawed, strong looking dragon for her to see.

She felt her stance shake slightly as she looked him over, her mind alight with thoughts in her head.

"I like to think I'm a little more than that, but yes, I am indeed the one and only Spike the Dragon."

He leaned on the nightstand, his elbow supporting his weight as he bent further towards her.

The dragon grinned around his fingers, tapping on his wide chin with an almost childlike air.

She glared at him, snarled at him, hissed at him, but never managed to make him waver.

In flame she was changed, turning from an earth pony to a changeling in a flash.

"A regrettable law, I agree, but one we had to implement after a few bad actors, shall we say, overstepped. As an, lets just say, outsider myself to ponykind sometimes, I sympathize with your plight. However, until we get to the point we don't have to worry about certain individuals taking advantage, we need to know when a changeling is underneath that pretty coat. We understand wanting to walk around in a different form, but we have to know for our own sakes."

She scoffed, turning up her nose at him and stamping into her kitchen.

"Please, just call me Spike."

A tsk was all he got back for that as she began rummaging through her fridge.

She gave him a side eye as she closed the fridge door, a deep suspicion on her face as she trotted around him.

"Lets just say that we're looking for certain... talented individuals."

Her eyes flew wide as it struck her, but no questions flew just yet. He had to admire her patience.

"And lets just say I have reason to believe you have a... special talent?"

Without ever breaking eye contact with him, she raised her hoof.

Changeling fire was nothing impressive, all of them had it and as often as it was a weapon for battle, it was a party trick. He's seen more green flame in all the world than he ever cared to count.

What danced across her hoof was something else entirely.

"Hm. So, you do take after your father in one regard."

She put it out with a flick, leaving not even a trail of smoke behind.

With another puff, a crystal appeared in his claw.

"Your big brother changed the game."

From it he summoned a news broadcast, straight from the Hive Gazette. A story down south slapped on the front page, blaring as loudly as it could. Edge to edge that image was filled with something in the sky, something the size of a town itself coming down.

A disaster of apocalyptic proportions, just beneath the title shining for her to see.

She cocked back a look at him with a raised eyebrow, looking around the room as if it were obvious.

"I was just wondering if you had it."

She scoffed again, rolling her eyes and yet again raising her hoof to summon the tell tale flames of the demon of Apploosa.

He cryptically nodded, never once actually looking at her fire. It seemed something in her eyes had his attention far better.

"You know, I always wondered, why is there such an age gap between you and your older brother, but not any of your other siblings? Seems like after you they couldn't wait to get more."

She winced, as if some sharp scent from the past had stung her in the eye.

She sighed.

>Dad just... well, mom wanted as many kids as she could right away, you know... Apples.

He did indeed know that, personally.

She looked sadly out the window.

The dragon's respectful nod did little to ease the obvious pain crossing her face.

She sat at the table at last, finally looking across from him.

He pensively stared at her, thoughtful and very stern looking.

"I'm not sure if you're a good fit, is all."

She took another drink when offered.

She fiddled with her glass, looking very uncertain at her own reflection.

He chuckled, a certain face flashing in his mind.

>If your parents spent more money on an orphanage than they did you, and I mean really spent on them, to where you didn't get the cool stuff your friends had or the thing all the kids on your block were getting, and then you turn around and those orphans are the ones with all that stuff and getting to talk about it and make friends with it while you just got... less, wouldn't you be upset? Be honest here.

A thoughtful claw tapped to his chin as he pondered it, and pondered it.

"I suppose I might be upset for a bit, though I struggle to imagine I'd hold a grudge against... orphans, you say?"

She huffed, looking away from him.

"Especially if I had two loving parents, instead.

After a moment, he had to nod in agreement.

"No, I suppose I don't. I didn't have a mother and father, but I had a lot of family who raised me just as well. I was never left wanting, they were quite well off. I suppose... it was different for you, wasn't it? Your brother had a different opinion."

"I take it he argued on their behalf."

It seemed, even now, she couldn't quite bring herself to lie.

She brushed a tear from the corner of her eye, and the dragon let out a sigh of relief.

"Well... it's a start."

From within the holster on his side, he pulled out a small white card.

"Miss Rose... about my organization, we're interested in expanding, you see."

She reeled back in shock.

"Hm? Oh, no... We've got a new thing in the works."

Fangs glimmered in the light, as he smiled and presented her a tiny business card.

In the grand halls of the Crystal Empire, there resided a room unlike the others.

It wasn't as grand as a hallowed hall, nor was it as small as a simple common room. It was far off from the entrance, yet not quite tucked away into the farthest corners where oddities could be stored. It was out of the way, where one must usually be looking for it in order for it to be found, yet not so hidden as to be conspicuous and bring suspicion of it. This was the personal room of what had once been the grandest and highest of all beings in Equestria. A little place where she may dally with her own personal fancies in her retirement, be they anything from crystal sculptures to whatever else she felt like doing at the moment that did not require a child or spouse in some sort of wacky event. For while she did so love her crazy life of occasionally sliding off the giant Crystal Castle, playing expert level hide and go seek in the snow, visiting Canterlot to torment the one who had once been such a headcahe, or more commonly spending time with children in what had quickly become the highlight of her life, she also was a mare who occasionally wanted to go into a personal room and lock the door to have a little her time.

Said lock was the only reason she was spared the deep and booming slam that had been the bane of most of her extended family and friends for the last little bit, and she was given a moment to collect herself before she opened the door, and her visitor came in.

The original Firstborn Alicorn awaited the newest Firstborn with a smile. There she stood in the middle of her room, looking as regal and beautiful as the day she'd retired. She had traded in her necklace for a long and flowing silken dress that looked as if she had poured liquid gold all over herself, shimmering and moving as if it were eternally flowing rivers of wealth in much the same way her hair kept flowing. Though she'd stepped away from rulership in the more classical sense, she still kept on an air of sophistication for the visitors of the castle, and seldom could the younger Alicorn recall her looking anything but radiant, except for the few times she's seen her stumble out of Princess Applejack's bathroom with her father in tow.

She'd long stopped questioning that one.

She didn't question most things about her, as Flurry knew quite well of all of them she was by far the wisest, and most powerful. She had lived a thousand years in rulership of peace, and no doubt could command an entire army with her visage alone even after giving up the Equestrian crown.

"Yes, dear? What did you need?"

It felt odd for Flurry to reckon even now that she was by most accounts, her mother.

Something twinkled in those wizened eyes, something mischievous yet willing. It was as if she held back something more when she finally nodded her head. Something went unspoken, even though it seemed to ignite her so.

"Well, of course I'm always here to help you whenever you need, my dear. I've healed enough from the call of "Gotta question", I feel. So, tell me..."

She leaned forwards, the edge of her lips curling up into an expectant smile, her hooves seeming lighter as she awaited what would come next.

"Whatever do you want me to grant you as a... boon, you said? I think I know what it is, but of course, you have to say it without me leading you on."

Alicorn to Alicorn, gaze to gaze, Princess to Princess they looked as the younger of the two prepared herself.

With a stern heart and a determined frown, Princess Flurry Heart spoke, at last.

The impish look on the taller princess shattered, her twinkling amusement in her eye snuffed out and turning to cracks like a glass dropped atop a raging flame. Though her smile remained, it now twisted ever so slightly wrong, just enough to make it look as if she were trying to grin through stubbing her hoof.

"Eh?"

>You had a rebellious sister too, didn't you? How did you finally get Auntie Luna to respect your authority as Princess! Because it feels like none of them take my regal stance seriously! Especially not AJTwo!

She huffed, she puffed, and darn it she was ready to blow it all down. Unlike her parental figure, who's eye twitched at the ranting.

"Isn't there something else you wanted to know? Maybe getting a... raise?"

She gestured upwards, her smile turning strained.

"I'm just trying to remain sunny. Didn't you notice my teeth shined, one could say? But this is about you, after all, really. You're the star of the show."

No one would ever claim Celestia was not a patent mare.

The taller Princess leaned in, her eyes turning excited again.

Hope was something Celestia had found again after so many years, it was sad to see it go.

>I'm already the Firstborn Alicorn, I don't need sun raising powers to make the respect me! I should just, have that! But she doesn't! Two just constantly treats me like I'm an infant still, though I dwarf her in regal stature! While she's out making silly jokes, I'm trying to prove the respect of my Empire! And it's hard to do that when she just sings at me and gives me little treats like a filly on Nightmare Night!

Whatever the elder Princess had been hoping for, it was clearly defeated. She finally rose up with a sigh, her grin turning tired yet loving as she looked down on the other.

"I suppose one could feel undercut with Two acting as she does."

>Exactly! I'm the Firstborn Alicorn, and she never uses my title!

"Which one, exactly? You've given yourself three since you entered."

She continued on, as if she heard nothing.

"Second, you personally have witnessed me surf down a mountaintop while riding a cake, and you call me the serious one?"

"Third, and this is more important, you do realize I utterly failed to keep my sister from disrespecting me so hard I had to put her on the moon, don't you?"

The younger mare had little response to that, save puffing out her cheeks and rolling her eyes.

"Absolutely not. Parental hoof coming down on it."

She timed her words perfectly with her wings ceasing to flap, and all four hooves stamping on the ground

>Then what am I supposed to do!? I can't keep getting undercut by Two, she carries me off when I try and demand what is owed to me as Firstborn Alicorn!

Subtly, Celestia looked over her shoulder at the door.

>Don't you dare!

Not as subtle as she wanted, of course.

"Flurry, I don't know what to tell you, she's doing what she thinks is best."

>But I'm clearly the more mature one and she's ruining it! She needs to treat me with respect!

She sighed, but a sad smile crossed the elder's face.

"She does, Flurry, but you have to understand that treating you with respect means something different to her. It doesn't mean bowing, or calling you by fancy titles, it means letting you get your words out before whoever you're speaking to requests a break. She lets you do what you want, to a point. Going beyond that point isn't a sign of dismissal, but of acting in her own regal way"

>But!

A white hoof came up and put a stop to that.

"No buts, if you want her to treat you differently, you're going to have to earn it same as anyone else. Two is a good girl, she would never do anything to torment you without reason, she's always going to be the bouncy bundle she has been since before you were born. That is what it means to be a real Princess, winning them over and making them wish to treat you such out of their own desires, not forcing them to act as you command. That is the act of a tyrant, and we both know what becomes of the younger sister who would become a despot."

Both of them winced, for completely different reasons.

Some hurt worse than others.

Subtly, while Flurry preened, a free white hoof waved her off and none-too-subtly gestured to go far, far away, before she opened the door. Something told her a certain changeling would be on the other side of the castle before it was too late.

>Very well, Princess Celestia! I shall take your council into advisory with respect to your wisdom, and I shall make use of all you have taught me! For I understand when someone is supposed to defer and listen to their betters!

"I advise not calling yourself that."

>Very well! Good day to you, and I shall see you at dinner!

With that, she bowed out of the room, shutting the door behind her on her way. Hopefully, she didn't hear the lock click when she was gone.

Out from the shadows, hidden behind a wall of half broken statues and other failures in the quest for competency, he emerged.
