Rarity's parents always seemed so nice. Like, there is just that blue collar bubba redneck type farmhand and fifties housewife who really did put in the effort to become middle class to become less boorish and and raise their children to be middle class too. And when they succeeded, their own middle class kid dislikes them now, because she only managed to climb being an independent businessmare and upper-middle class artist, instead of being part of high society. There is an entire story and social commentary in there. I'm pretty sure they gave the funds so Rarity could afford the Carousel Boutique to begin with,

The kino way to do it would be to have an episode where Applejack's feeling crummy and Rarity makes her feel better by talking in her untrained voice, and then in a later episode Rarity's having an awful time and insists that the only thing that would make her feel better is Applejack putting on the Manehattan accent she has in Cutie Mark Chronicles.

This actually reminds me of a story I read on Fimfic, which was all about Applejack's thoughts during Tanks for The Memories, where she basically thinks it silly for Dash to be so upset when her loss is so minor, but she still ultimately decides to swallow her own hurt to be sympathetic to Dash. Funny enough, there were still people in the comment section who were calling AJ in the story a cold hearted bitch for daring to have the audacity to think her suffering was worse than Rainbow's not having a pet for a few months.
If this were an actual episode, I'm sure the resolution would have been Applejack apologizing to everyone else for being so mean, and that actually their relationships are great and she was just too close minded on how parent child relationships should be.

The later seasons couldn't do it at all. They dropped the entire angle about fashion and Canterlot and high society not being good at all from the first few seasons and started unironically portraying them as positive. It would be too nuanced for the nu-writers to handle and much of it would have been lost on autismos anyway.

That's nothing. There is one AiE fic about RD striking ANon with lightening, almost killing him, and leaving him paralyzed from the neck down. For the crime of almost killing someone and turning them into a quadriplegic through sheer negligence, she was fined, fired from her job, barred from the Wonderbolts, and forbidden to work with clouds anymore. And there was one Dashfag in the comment section who thought this slap on the wrist punishment was TOO HARSH for what she did. Seeing that comment is what really made me disregard anything Dashfags have to say about episodes like Mare do Well or 28 Pranks Later. These mfs consider any degree of punishment for her actions too harsh.

Yep, that's exactly why the resolution would be AJ apologizing, lol. God forbid she actually have a point about the way the others treat her for once.
Pinkie Apple Pie is kind of a fucked up episode too, since the entire thing was basically just 'you're family isn't as awesome as you think it is' which feels kinda mean spirited when it's the primary thing she cares about is her family and she doesn't even have parents. They really couldn't throw out a single AJ episode that wasn't just kicking her while she was down about how much she sucks and needs other ponies to handle her problems for her.

But Sweet and Elite had the nuanced approach to show elites can be good in the case of Fancy Pants. Generous Rarity herself is high fashion. The show could never portray Canterlot and high society as completely rotten because Celestia and her court are the highest of it, and she's the most benevolent ruler ever.

She's had wins when she's in the right, but I think he was talking more about the achieving great things part. They couldn't let the strong earth pony out compete Rainbow Dash, let the rodeo pony win a blue ribbon, let the entrepreneur succeed at the gala or expand business with Filthy Rich, or ultimately let the family pony start a family. Nu-writers even turned her into a tard that can't run her own farm better than fucking Twilight.

Honestly though, how often is she even in the right? Most disagreements have her as either equally wrong or the only one in the wrong. Most Appul episodes really are about how much she sucks compared to everyone else. She's pretty much the only one who gets shit on by her own episodes. Even RD has more episodes celebrating how amazing she is.

kek, I was going to stick a (rarely) at the end of that. The show bends over backwards to make her in the wrong, often by being dragged down by other characters. Look before you sleep and fall weather friends being two prime early examples.

>Look before you sleep and fall weather friends being two prime early examples.
Yea. It's fucked up how those two episode both boil down to "X acts like a shitty friend and it's Applejack's fault". The best(worst) part about it is that AJ is both the first and only one to apologize for her actions in both instances, and the other character starting the whole conflict and treating her like shit just sort of smiles and nods.
Frankly, with the way the characters were written most of the time, it really gives the impression most of them don't like Applejack. Every time she needs their help for something, they always put in way less effort for her than they will each other. Like when Rarity asks for Fluttershy's help in removing a family of raccoons from her shop, Flutter does her best to try and remove them multiple times before trying to find a compromise to help Rarity and let them stay. But when Applejack asks for her help removing a bunch of bats, she immediately doesn't want to do anything and her counter offer is to just let the bats stay. Her justification to them being beneficial doesn't even make sense when broken down, and even that justification was only secondary to her first concern, which was "oh but the poor wittle bats need to feed their family's!". Between that, the chapter book, or when Applejack is nervous in Made in Manehattan, and compare it to the way the mane 6 help each other in episodes like Testing or Rarity Takes Manehattan. It's a weird disconnect where it seems like they really aren't as interested in helping her as they are each other. I imagine this is just because the writers verifiably hated her for being southern, and so instead just enjoyed making her the butt of everyone's jokes, but it's really sad for her. She really has the worst life of all the mane 6. Friendship is magic for everyone but Applejack.
Anonymous No.42523117
>>42523028
Even when she is in the right, she does not "win", things merely get left as it is. Things do not change or develop for her. She gets no tangible benefits, despite being the pony who puts in the most effort. All the rest of the M6 get to enjoy special powers and going places, while Appul is barely treading water to stay at her current station. It is way too realistic, too related to everyday issues, especially in contrast with the other characters.

They could have had episodes about the mane sixes family, or history or flashbacks, they could have had episodes about magical adventures with arc villains, they could have had slice of life episodes like Rarity losing her favorite manebrush, which would have been a BITCHINGLY female problem, even according to the vagina owner I married, they could have given episodes to background characters, maybe even slowly build a few up into repeating characters and a B-team. There are tons of characters that could have gotten an episode or two, even the princesses. I refuse to believe they couldn't see how obvious it was to make a "Celestia has a busy day" episode.

The truth is, the likes of haber and the other nepobabies just looked down on MLP, looked down on the world and looked down on its fans. They had this weird, chiding contempt for "taking it seriously" as they all saw themselves as epic legendary writers destined for greatness, not for "just a kids show" and this will be just a stepping stone as bigger and better things are coming for them. Seeing haber beg for jobs on twitter and others leaving the industry entirely warms my heart. In the end, they got what they deserve,

The real win would have been if the Apples had just taken the deal, haggled theirselves a better cut, and then gotten Granny that hip surgery she needed back in the Ticket Master, and earn enough that the kids wouldn't have to work their asses off and probably end up destroying their own hips.

Irrelevant from the point that they simply don't win. Appul never wins, she never goes on a personal magical adventure, her station never noticeably improves, she does not achieve her dreams. She is forever stuck on being support, the voice of reason, the honest, reliable one always enabling others and never getting anything for herself. Even in S9, even in the future, she will forever get stuck at the same place where she started from in S1E1.

Uh.. she got a new hat in Made in Manehattan. That's a win right?

>She is forever stuck on being support, the voice of reason
Not even that, they took that role and gave it to Glimmer.

Funniest shit is, Glimmer actually had potential, they could have made her to be deviantart edgelord, slowly growing into a sane and rational big sister with management skills and a sense of reason to play off Twilight. You can see traces of this happening and those are her best moments.

It's crazy, because Applejack is actually a lot more proactive than anyone else. Every one always treats Rainbow Dash as the brave, adventurous one, but she never actually really does all that much outside of the group. Applejack has multiple episodes where she fights monsters completely on her own or goes into the Everfree alone. She's one of the only characters who's actually proactive most of the time in doing something, so it's mind boggling to me that some people think there isn't anything that could be done with her.

And she was also much more loyal than RD too.

Even that aside, I've just seen people who say RD is their favorite because she has the most 'awesome moments', and I just have no idea what that's referring to. Unless these people just REALLY like the sonic rainboom or something, she doesn't really do that much. I just find it insane the mental gymnastics people regularly to go through to say Applejack is a boring and inflexible character while the others are so amazing, even when they have to ignore 90% of the series in order to pretend AJ doesn't do anything. I'm really starting to believe that the reason people don't like her really is just because she's southern. I just haven't seen any coherent and consistent reason why she's so much worse as a character than the others that doesn't involve substantial double standards and blatantly ignoring the show.

I like smug pone, but he is right, Appul was done wrong because the show creators, the rabid californians hated her for being too white
