there are a bunch of settings you can edit to make it feel more modern at least, like putting on wasd and turning on overhead chat bubbles, but at the end of the day this game is old enough to drink and it shows
turn on wasd, put turning speed to max, put mouselook and jump on easy to reach buttons, and I can not stress enough, learn the ctrl, ctrl+alt, and ctrl+alt+shift combos with left mouseclick to move the camera around. some other navigation tips are that you can type 'tp2cam' into chat and you get teleported to where your camera is. you can also right click any name in chat, and either teleport to, or zoom your camera to, that person.

Now for the details of this years Baltimare Costume Contest!

There is no pre-sign up or anything of that sort, its open join
Contestants will be given a few hours of time to arrive and line up next to the stage at the designated area

You'll be called up one by one to display and describe your costume, and do a little performance if you had one!

Performances are NOT mandatory. You can just show up and show off a costume if you want.

We have had ponies win previous years without a performance at all. It really all depends on how much effort you put into your costume

Multi-Contestant entries are allowed! Your group will be counted as one contestant entry for voting purposes, but each pony will receive their own individual rewards instead of a single award for the group. If you all win first place, you'll all receive a first place trophy.

There will be no online polls or anything similiar. Once all contestants have been given a chance to go on stage voting will start! Both the Audience and Contestants will be allowed to vote! You can vote for yourself if you want, but that is discouraged.

A notecard listing every contestants name including a brief description of their costume will be given out en masse via group notice. You'll choose a total of three contestants, and send it back to the Contest host Marble whom will count each vote by hoof.

I've been ejected out of my cars, which have its own car engine script, twice after I did my test there for a short time. They're probably gone into other sims (I've received a notification that one of my car has auto-returned by the sim, it was located in two sims away from where I've tested it out. But my car isn't in the "Lost and Found" folder.) Thankfully, no attachment problem found.

It's a 3D sandbox engine from 20 years ago populated almost entirely by user-created content.
It's like a cross between a chatbox and gmod, if gmod was open world and also you didn't need the server admin to download new workshop mods.
Another way to describe it is roblox except less pozzed but also a lot more janky. You have extensive scripting capabilities, people make vehicles, minigames, collectables etc. But because it's janky, there are a lot fewer "real games" that have actually smooth gameplay than roblox does, so it's really more of a sandbox where you can throw together cool stuff.

If you like dressing up avatars or putting together outfits, that is also a pastime that lots of folks enjoy.

You pay a token cost, which is a base L$10 for any image or sound, and models have an extra cost depending on complexity (but in my limited experience, you'll rarely pay more than L$20-50 even for big stuff, and simple models often cost L$11-12).
This is basically peanuts for individual things and only becomes annoying if you need to import a lot of stuff in bulk. However, there are people who pay for the Premium+ subscription and have completely free uploads, so if you befriend one you can bother them to bulk upload shit for you for free.

For reference the exchange rate with real money typically hovers around US$1 = L$250, so the base upload cost is about $0.04.
Ponies typically put a bunch of money into the sploder on friday parties which then airdrops it randomly to everyone in the area, and by attending a party you can typically get something like L$50-300 or so depending on luck, so you can get buy even without ever putting in real money.

Oh yeah I should add, textures count as separate images (you can't upload them together with a model), so that's something to keep in mind. So if you're doing really complex stuff, where you need several separate models and half a dozen textures (multiple diffuse textures, normal maps, etc.) it can start adding up a bit.

There's also a test grid, you have to send a standard email template to support and they'll add access to your account, and you spawn there with a gazillion L$ so you can upload stuff as much as you want to test how it works in-game. That way you only need to pay to upload the final version into the actual real game.
