Slave Pony Thread #309 [ANNIVERSARY EDITION]

>What is this thread about?
This thread revolves around stories about ponies getting bathed and pet.

>Can you elaborate more?
Sure! SPG (Slave Pony General) is mostly about characters dealing with the actual implications of the horrifying thing that is chattel slavery. It's more looking at how people with modern sensibilities deal with the ownership of another sentient being, and how most people aren't total cunts.

I might not have done a good job of showing it, but I skipped a lot of the summer when nothing truly remarkable happened. It would be getting close to the equinox by now.

Thank you, kind Anon! S'good to know people are enjoying the green.

Update coming right after this. No Halloween special this year, though. I've been playing around with another, non-pony project and it's taken what little free time I had left. Fun, though.

> The work wasn't too hard, nor was it particularly demeaning. As an added bonus, spending time with Janus was nice. Thistle was able to brush up on her Equestrian a little as she instructed the blacksmith. He had perhaps the best grasp of the language in the camp, except perhaps Salki.
> Well, before Salki had gotten so preoccupied with his marriage and the clan Chieftainhood.
> In fact, things were going well. Rangi was still very apologetic about her punishment and her extra labour, especially since it was all his fault. The poor lad had nearly cried when he saw her black and blue hide after the beating.
> It resulted in him being quiet and obedient, so much that even Saule had lost a bit of her grumpiness. Thistle's wishes had been clear: he was to obey with alacrity, and *to the word* everything either the Chieftain, or his wife commanded.
> With luck, that would help settle the woman's budding suspicion, and it usually meant Rangi was too tired each night to bother her. That suited her fine, because so was she.
> A part of her missed the action, but sneaking away would mean at minimum exhaustion the next day, and at worst risking a cold.
> She couldn't afford any lapse in judgement, not now. The all-important night was approaching and she needed to get the clan to move back into the mountains. She thought Salki was receptive, even if his wife was skeptical. More importantly, Darga didn't seem to have any particular objection, and Intor only put up a token protest when Thistle had advanced the idea. They would need more work to convince fully, but that was something an ex-mayor was supposed to be good at, wasn't it?
> The nomads would move from their summer camp in a few days anyway, and the excitement in the air was palpable. Thistle would be stuck carrying Janus' gear, but that wasn't such a big sacrifice.
> All she needed was to get the agreement from the Chieftain and his closest advisors that they would wait by that special place until either the way opened, or the equinox passed. She had neglected to admit to them that she would have no way of knowing when that might be. Maybe if she watched the moon carefully - for real, this time - she would eventually figure it out.
> It didn't really matter, because the way *would* open, and they would enter Equestria, and everything would be fine. Once they'd seen her fair land, the nomads would understand. They would make their home and, she was certain, thank her for the easy life that awaited them.
> Just thinking about it made her heart beat faster and she was only too glad to go over the Equestrian language with Janus as a kind of a small preparation.
"My friend has a clothes shop. She sells clothes," she intoned patiently.
AspiringWritefag !!12aZPDwdMbs No.42716218 [Report] >>42716222
>>42716215

> The work was so mindless that she hardly needed to think about the bellows she was pumping for the blacksmith. He, likewise, was good at his trade and could talk while he hammered a piece of bronze. Periodically he stopped to quench the metal, inspect it closely, or perhaps return it to the fire and pick out one of the other pieces.
> He frowned at the unshaped lump held in his rudimentary tongs. "Ma friend a clothes soup," he tried.
> The mispronounced word made her giggle and Janus briefly turned a curious gaze on her.
"Not 'soup'. Shop. Soup is what you eat."
> At his blank stare, she tried the nomad language:
"[You said- um- 'broth'. Water and grain and meat cooked. You should say the word for trader's stand.]"
> It was the closest translations the nomads had, and after their recent visit even Janus had picked up the crucial lingo.
> "Ma friend a clothes shop," he managed.
"Good. Has. My friend *has*."
> He grunted dismissively and didn't immediately repeat the sentence. Instead her turned and called to one of the other young men working beside him: "[Usman! See. Here,]" he held up the cooling lump. "[See copper tin mix? See color - brown, not red. If red, too much copper. If yellow, too much tin. All same color, they mix well. Remember next time.]"
> The apprentice inspected the lump closely. After a few moments, Janus pushed the tongs into his hand and said: "[Take. Put in fire. Make arrow points. I get more water with Thistle.]"
> He absentmindedly wiped his hands on his leather apron, then saw that the mare was still at the bellows, even though she'd stopped pumping. Janus pointed a finger at her, but addressed his protégé. "[Find Fen Ko. Boy pump bellows, Thistle comes with me.]"
> It was odd, the mare thought as she followed Janus to his tent and waited while he retrieved the two big clay jugs for her to carry. The blacksmith could speak better nomad, she'd heard him do so. Particularly when he was talking with the important people - the older craftsmen, the Chieftain or his family, or even Intor and her cronies - his words and his grammar markedly improved.
> It was only with the people he was comfortable with, people under his command, that he slipped into pidgin nomad and simplified his sentences. With her, he tried to speak properly regardless of what language he used.
> Oh, and Gol. He tried extra hard to be polite with Gol. That was part infatuation, Thistle wagered, and part trying to impress Intor. Not knowing that his attachment to the girl was all the mother's idea, he thought that Intor's agreement would be important if he wanted things with Gol to go any further. He seemed to really like her.
AspiringWritefag !!12aZPDwdMbs No.42716222 [Report] >>42716225
>>42716218

> Some of the other young women of the camp, especially the ones Thistle knew used to share his tent sometimes, looked either disappointed, jealous, or outright furious, but the man only had eyes for Gol lately.
> She idly wondered how that would develop. There was the difference in ages, and - more importantly - the fact that Gol was being pushed into the relationship by her mother, who wanted to tie such an important person to her family.
> The mare nearly groaned. She'd meant to speak with the girl about the whole situation, but hadn't had time. The few times she *had* a free moment, she'd been too exhausted to make herself leave the warm tent and her soft fur blankets.
> "[Alright, let's go,]" Janus spoke.
> Thistle started from her idle thoughts. He was holding the pole with the two jugs tied to it. She obediently turned so he could deposit it on her back. The pressure still made her wince, but the pain receded as she got used to the weight.
> She still felt the bruises, especially those last two. She hadn't seen Willow since that night, and perhaps that was a good thing.
"[Janus,]" she asked, prompted by the thought of the odd hunter. "[Do you like Willow?]"
> "[I don't know. He alright. Why you ask?]"
"[If you marry Gol, he will be part of your family. He is Gol's brother.]"
> That caused the big blacksmith to walk in silence for a while as he considered it. At length, he shrugged his shoulders. "[So what. Willow not cause me trouble. We will get along. If not, I will hit him a few times and give him beer after, then we will be friends.]"
> He laughed at that little joke, but Thistle didn't find it very funny.
"[That worked one time, and Darkhan is a crazy old man. Crazy like you. It will not work with anyone else! Don't fight people!]"
> Janus just kept chuckling. He reached down to run his fingers through her mane. "[It not fighting,]" he explained patiently. "[A friendly hit, to show man how strong I am, and then he shows me. It is how men say hello.]"
"[Maybe in whatever crazy land you come from. Here, people will get angry!]"
> He pointed a finger at her. "[How do you know? You are not nomad too! You are from other land.]"
"[I just know.]"
> "[Pah!]" he said dismissively, but didn't pursue the discussion.
> Thistle also decided to leave it alone. It wasn't her job to take care of Janus and his social interactions. He'd learn sooner or later, and she was pretty sure none of the camp members would seriously injure him, no matter how obnoxious he acted. He was too important to the clan, even if his apprentices were learning quickly.
AspiringWritefag !!12aZPDwdMbs No.42716225 [Report] >>42716228
>>42716222

> The most he would earn himself, she decided, was a solid beating. She had first-hand experience of that, and she thought maybe would be a good thing for him. After all, there was a new understanding between her and Willow now.
> Her hoof shifted when she put her weight on it and she instinctually flexed to keep the jugs steady, even if they were empty.
"[Careful. The mud is wet and slippery,]" she told Janus.
> After a moment's thought, she repeated in Equestrian:
"Careful. The mud is wet and slippery."

> ~~~~

> Thistle simply fell over onto her cot when she finally made it to the tent that night. Individual tasks for Janus might not be hard, but they added up over the course of a day. She couldn't understand how the man did all the things he did, day after day.
> It was probably a matter of practice. She, herself, was much stronger and tougher than only a year ago. She could walk further, carry more, and go for longer on less food. She could do tasks which would have made her faint back in Ponyville, and she'd learned just how palatable many otherwise yucky foods were when you had nothing else.
> That still didn't mean she wasn't exhausted. All she wanted was to close her eyes and sleep, but the opportunity was rare and she had to take it. Salki was in the tent and Saule was nowhere to be found.
> After no more than a minute, she forced her muscles to work and sat up. Only then did she notice that she was alone with the Chieftain.
"[Where is Rangi?]"
> Salki looked up from the bone he was cracking between two stones. "[Saule told him to bring wood for the fire.]"
> Of course, it was one of those constant, never ending chores. Water and firewood. The two things always needed fetching.
"[Where is Saule?]"
> "[With her mother. They are talking. Women's business,]" Salki said in a wry tone which suggested that a wise man shouldn't have too much interest in such things.
"[We need to talk!]"
> He was picking through the smashed bone for bits of marrow, but it was a sight Thistle was all to familiar with and she didn't mind either the visuals, or the smells. She made her way to the fire beside Salki and leaned against him. The touch would lend her words greater weight, she hoped.
"[The way to my home will open soon. It is a land better than this, less dangerous. My people will help you, and everything will be better. I have told you the amazing things we have.]"
> Salki watched her face for a long time before replying: "[That means you want us to go and camp near that place where the worlds touch.]"
"[Yes. I know it's out of the way, but it will be worth it. Besides, there's game in the forests, and there is more wood for the fires.]"
> "[That is not the problem.]"
AspiringWritefag !!12aZPDwdMbs No.42716228 [Report] >>42716233
>>42716225

"[Then what is it? If we go soon, we won't have to hurry. We can pack everything, and the people will not be as exhausted as last year.]"
> "[It's not that either,]" he said and held up a hand to forestall more of her blind guesses. "[If we are not in our hunting grounds, others will try to take them. This is only our land because we claim it, every day. You've seen what happened with the Ruslans, and we were still using the hunting grounds!]"
> She almost rolled her eyes, but held back and made her voice as calm and reasonable as she could.
"[True, but if you go to Equestria you will not need the land anymore. There will be new land, better than this.]"
> "[New hunting grounds?]" Salki asked warily.
"[Y-Yees.]"
> He barked a laugh and prodded her nose with a finger which was greasy from the marrow. "[Do you think I've become such an idiot since marrying?]"
> Before she could respond and defend herself, Salki continued: "[I remember the stories you told me. All animals live together, as friends. Your people do not hunt, and do not kill, not even your livestock. We would have to do the same. Eat nothing but roots and grass and grain, like you.]"
"[Not necessarily!]" she protested. "[I'm sure we could figure something out. There are parts of the- of a forest, near to my town. It is wild, and the creatures inside eat other creatures. You could hunt there! There are others beside ponies who eat meat.]"
> "[Hmm,]" Salki murmured and went back to eating his meal.
> After some minutes she couldn't stand the silence and prodded the man with a hoof.
"[Well? Please, Salki. I want you all to come with me, but if you won't, I will go alone. Will you let me? Will you send a few men with me so I make it safely through the forests?]"
> He looked up at her sharply. "[You would leave us? Aren't you learning to become our new shaman? I thought that was what you wanted!]"
> The hurt in his voice and on his face was obvious, especially after two years living with these people. Thistle felt a lump in her throat and folded her ears down.
"[I don't want to leave you. I like many people in the camp, you know that. But Equestria is my home. I have friends there, too. My own kind. If I ever want children, that's the place I could do that!]"
> She'd closed her eyes, but his hand on her mane wasn't a surprise and she leaned into the touch. Salki expertly found one of her ears and began to massage the base between his thumb and other fingers. A soft, luxurious sigh escaped her.
"[What you're doing now? That is part of why I don't want to leave you.]"
> "[But you would?]"
"[Yes. Let me take only Rangi, and we will go alone. I want to go home, Salki.]"
> She opened her eyes just a crack, but enough to see how torn he was. "[Life will be better for us there?]" he prompted.
AspiringWritefag !!12aZPDwdMbs No.42716233 [Report] >>42716237
>>42716228

"[I'm sure it will. The two leaders - the sisters I told you about - they are very kind and very powerful. They would help us figure something out.]"
> "[You would stay in the camp if we go there?]"
> This was a harder one. Thistle had lived in a tent for so long now that she could hardly remember having amenities such as a bedroom, or refrigerator, or plumbing. She still wanted to experience them again, though.
"[I would want to stay with you- with the people,]" she said carefully. "[I will show you how ponies live. Maybe some nomads will want to live like ponies when they see. Maybe you will too, to show the way. Maybe...]"
> She swallowed to get some moisture into her suddenly dry mouth. She was trying to imagine it, but picturing what the townsponies would say if she settled these- these *barbarians* in Ponyville was making her cringe inside.
"[Maybe we could make the same kinds of places for your people. I told you about them. Like we have seen in the East, made from wood and stone.]"
> "[Then we wouldn't be able to move.]"
"[You wouldn't have to. You're moving now to escape your enemies, or to find new hunting grounds. You wouldn't need that. You could let the people settle down.]"
> He wasn't fully convinced, and Thistle saw that he was having trouble imagining it. That was disheartening. If he, of all people, who had seen the towns in the East, couldn't picture the clan living in houses, what chance did she have with Darga and Intor, who would find it even harder to visualise?
"[We can talk about that when we're in Equestria. You don't have to change all your ways. We will take it slow, and the people only need to do things which they see are better.]"
> He gave her a nod and lifted up the broken piece of femur he'd been working on with his free hand. "[Maybe. We will need to speak with Mother, and with Intor. Janus and Darkhan will also need to agree, and maybe Kantuta. Have you asked Willow yet? He leads the hunters, so if he agrees, the hunters will too.]"
"[Since when do you lead this clan by agreement from everyone?!]" she chided gently.
> Salki chuckled. "[Between you and Mother, what else can I do?]"
> He dropped his bone so he could employ both hands on her ears. It was an expression of closeness, appreciation. Friendship, maybe, or something more which still lingered. She closed her eyes to enjoy it.
"[Why should I talk to Willow?]" she asked idly.
> "[I hear ever since he beat you, you've been friends.]"
"[What?!]"
> She pulled away out of sheer shock and stared at the man in mortification.
"[Who said that?!]"
> Salki gave a small shrug. "[Buygra. He said you told him to go find you after dark if you were not back. He was worried Willow did something to you, but he saw you talking. He said you shook hands.]"

"[Oh. That. Willow and I have an- understanding. We're not friends, but we don't hate each other. Mostly.]"
> His head leaned to one side and Salki poked at her nose before turning back to his meal. "[You are a complicated creature, Thistle. Maybe it's because you are a pony, but you are also a woman, and that's a very strange combination.]"
> She couldn't help but laugh at that. Something told her that she'd fully convinced him, and he would back her up when talking to Darga and the other older people. She resolved to go see Willow the next day and ask him. Perhaps the newfound respect between them would stretch to him considering her proposal carefully. If not, she thought, she would get Gol on her side and try to convince Intor through the daughter, and Willow through his mother.
> Given that the mare was a good friend of the blacksmith, whom Intor was also trying to tie to her own family, perhaps she would have some weight. If not, she could always threaten to break Gol and Janus up. She didn't know that she could *do* that, but Intor would probably believe it.
> Especially with her latest trend of spending entire days helping the blacksmith.
> She'd feel dirty after that, but she could always get Rangi to wash her off.

There it is! Our lil' Thistle is growing up and learning how to make people do what she wants without lifting her tail. Not that much further to go home.

Any bets on what will go wrong, either with the way, the nomads, the portal, or the home? Or Thistle herself?

> "[Back for more?]" Willow said. He laughed at his own attempt at a joke and turned to the female sitting beside him. His arm was around her and he pressed her closer as he added: "[You know, Thistle practically begged me to beat her.]"
> His tone was a mix between boasting and humor, and Thistle's first instinct was to scowl and tell him to get lost. Except *she* had come to *him*, and she needed his support. Faking this particular smile was the hardest thing she'd ever had to do.
> The girl with him was vaguely familiar, one of those background faces from an inconsequential family. It took her a moment to put a name to the face. Inju. Her mother was one of Kantuta's lackeys, and her family produced most of the raw leather Darkhan used to make his tools.
> She peered at how the two were sitting, at the casual familiarity with which she leaned against Willow. The way she kept one hand on his shoulder, and how she looked at him. There was something deeper going on there, and Thistle could almost put her hoof on it. Maybe if Willow wasn't trying to rile her on purpose.
"[Can you stop being a donkey's ass for a single evening? We should talk.]"
> Her insult just made the man laugh harder, and even Inju gave a small chuckle at the comedy. She fell silent when Willow pulled his arm back and told her: "[Go and see if your grandfather needs something. It looks like our little pony has something serious to say.]"
> Her suspicion was confirmed when Thistle watched Inju plant a quick kiss on Willow's cheek, right before she stood and left the circle of the fire. The kiss wasn't that surprising, and many young lovers exchanged such gestures. What had caught her eye was the way Inju had touched her own belly as she stood up. Willow was left alone with the mare, who sat down to his side, although not close enough to touch.
> She didn't want to be quite across the fire from the man. Sitting a little closer made their conversation much more personal. More intimate. It was why she had had two chairs and a coffee table in her office back in Ponyville. For some ponies, a more personal touch worked better than a more official one.
> "[What is it?]" he asked casually. To her surprise he did not sound particularly annoyed that she'd interrupted his evening with the girl.
"[I've talked to Salki. He agrees we should go to Equestria.]"
> "[That is your magical land of talking ponies, right?]"
"[Yes. I think life would be better there for nomads.]"
> Willow gave this some though, then picked up a stick and prodded at the embers of the fire. A fountain of sparks shot up, some of them landing on him, others settling on Thistle's coat. She'd gotten used to it and didn't even look twice.
> At length, the nomad spoke: "[Life is not too bad here.]"
AspiringWritefag !!12aZPDwdMbs No.42746431 [Report] >>42746436
>>42746424

"[Have you already forgotten Adilet and the Ruslans? How many of the camp people died last summer? We have had a peaceful year, but before that it was near constant fighting. How long until some new clan tries to take our lands, and we have to fight again?]"
> The man gave her a nonchalant shrug and pointed the stick at her. "[This is what we do. We fight over land. It keeps us strong, it keeps our children tough, and it keeps our skills sharp. What will we do in the pony land?]"
> On some level she knew that his world-view was bad. Violence only got them more violence. She'd seen it first-hand. The Equestrian way was *better*! Yet... having lived the life of a nomad, and having fought beside them, she could also see how his argument made a lot of sense. They certainly were a strong and independent people.
> Everyone in the clan, even the young, was tough and stoic, a trait which had allowed them to survive - even thrive - in this harsh land. What would the safety of Equestria do to their culture? What would they turn into, if they lived lives of luxury and peace?
> Then again, their culture was also full of pain, and loss, and cruelty, and slavery. Was it really worth preserving?
> She firmly shook her head, but still lowered her ears and bowed a little in respect at Willow's well-made point.
"[There is some wisdom in what you say, but think of the hunger and the hardship we faced in the mountains. Think of the Ruslans rising up from the dark and striking at our old, and our young. Do you want your son to grow up in such danger?]"
> Willow leaned back in surprise and clutched his smoldering stick with both hands, as if holding a spear against her. "[My what?! What are you talking about?]"
> His confusion was palpable, and Thistle suddenly realized he hadn't known. Perhaps Inju hadn't told him yet? Maybe the girl herself did not yet understand. Could her gestures have been completely subconscious?
"[I didn't mean to break this news to you like this. I think Inju is with child.]"
> "[No, she can't- Inju?]" Willow said, staring in the direction she'd left.
"[I am very sure. Um, congratulations?]"
> He turned back to stare at her, eyes narrow in suspicion. "[How do you know? Did Inju tell you this? Are you two conspiring behind my back?]"
"[I haven't spoken with Inju in a long time. I merely watched her. I may be a pony, but I am a female, too. We notice.]"
> She thought back to the bits and pieces she'd learned from Xuan, and asked in her best shaman-mare voice:
"[Was Inju sick some mornings? Do you know? Were her breasts sore? Did she have pain in her belly?]"
> The hunter looked less angry, frowning in thought instead. "[She had to run from the tent one morning some days ago. Surely it was only the beer we drank the night before?]"
AspiringWritefag !!12aZPDwdMbs No.42746436 [Report] >>42746442
>>42746431

"[Maybe, but I don't think so. Look, maybe she doesn't even know herself yet. In either case, even if it's not true, you will marry Inju soon, no?]"
> All Willow did was nod in reply. With Thistle's earlier statement and his reaction to it, this wasn't much of a stretch.
"[So what does it matter? It will be a happy occasion.]"
> "[Why are you telling me this?]"
> She took the opportunity while the man was shaken and unsure of himself. He was treading new ground, and didn't know what to expect, or how to respond, really. She scooted closer and placed a careful hoof on his knee.
"[Every parent want their children to do well. In Equestria, they will have opportunities they cannot have here. Blacksmithing is common there, and there are more wonderful things. Most importantly, I promise every nomad who goes with me will be safe, and will have enough to eat every day.]"
> Willow jerked his head to one side and stared at her in surprise. His stick had slipped from his hands and now he crossed them over his belly. He had a distant look in his eyes, not seeing the mare or even their immediate surroundings. Perhaps he was imagining a child he might have someday?
> It was clear he hadn't been expecting that promise, but he didn't question Thistle's word. She'd repeated pretty much the same thing more than once when she'd talked about Equestria, so it was nothing new. The novelty was in the way this promised land would affect him now. Him and his new family.
> Her conscience flared up a little when Thistle considered how she was using this world-alerting news to influence his decision, but she needed his support. Willow on her side would go a long way toward convincing Intor, and through her Kantuta and Darkhan. After those, and with Salki at her side, not even Darga could object.
> She remembered Willow's other friend.
"[Think of Hisein. We have- um- powerful shamans in Equestria. They could give him his leg back.]"
> This wasn't an absolute certainty, but a skilled alchemist, perhaps that Zebra in the Everfree forest, might have some trick up their sleeve, even if outright magic couldn't help. Thistle was fairly sure something could be done, even if that something was merely a very advanced prosthesis.
> "[You really want this, don't you? Why do you want all of us to follow you? Why don't you just go alone?]"
> The question came out of nowhere and it made the mare step back in turn. That had been razor-sharp, and she stared at Willow in slack-jawed shock. She blurted out the first thing which came to mind:
"[I can't go up the mountain on my own. It's dangerous, and there are wild animals.]"
AspiringWritefag !!12aZPDwdMbs No.42746442 [Report] >>42746448
>>42746436

> Willow harrumphed in disdain. "[So? Ask some people to go with you. You have friends. Some hunters - Buygra, and those kids - Zaur and Temir - would go with you. They could even bring back some game for the camp, so it's not a complete waste of time.]"
> He was right, she *could* do that. If it came to that, she *would*. If no one agreed, she would even make the trip alone, dangerous or not. So why was she pushing so hard for the entire tribe to come with her?
> The name he'd dropped - Buygra - brought on a memory of Xuan's mischievous smile. She remembered how their daughter was named in Thistle's honor. Mare-friend.
> She remembered the tender moments she'd shared with Salki on that long trip out West and back. She remembered how Hisein had taught her the way to navigate in the land, and how Janus had tried to teach her fighting with a blade. He'd even made a knife she could strap around her hoof.
> It had turned out useless, because she needed all four legs for walking, but the thought had been there. He'd taken the time and effort to try and make her a little safer in this dangerous land.
> A lot of people had shown her kindness, even while she was technically a slave.
> She also thought about Fen Ko and Ning, and about Gol, and poor Tashi, who was finally beginning to smile again after her ordeal in the Ruslan camp.
> Saule had gone after Tashi with the men, since she was the most skilled with a bow. They'd been friends back then, before there was this horrible jealousy between them.
> Maybe if Thistle got herself a stallion husband, Saule would finally let go of her suspicions?
"[Because-]" she said slowly.
> She swallowed a lump, and lifted her face to look at Willow, eyes brimming with sudden tears.
"[Because I have many friends in the camp. I care for many of the nomads, and I want them to have better lives. Even-]"
> This would be hard to say, and she squeezed her eyes shut. She had to force the words out through her teeth.
"[Even you, in some way. I thought you were a bastard for the longest time, but-]"
> He burst out with a chortle at the jab, but didn't Say anything. It was still enough to interrupt her train of thought.
"[You are. You're a donkey's ass, but you want what's best for the people. You've grown since you became the first hunter.]"
> Willow reached out his hand to tussle her mane. "[You're an ass, too. I still think I should have beaten you when I first got you until you stopped talking. Things would have been easier.]"
"[Maybe,]" she agreed, grinning. "[I'd kick you every time you came near me, and I'd bite you every chance I got. You wouldn't have bows, and you wouldn't have horses. No bread, and no path to Equestria.]"
AspiringWritefag !!12aZPDwdMbs No.42746448 [Report] >>42746454
>>42746442

> "[Maybe,]" Willow said, neither agreeing, not really disagreeing. "[I will consider your proposal to go. I will speak with Inju. We will see.]"
> The mare groaned and pushed forward, right in front of his face.
"[Not good enough!]" she growled. "[I'll get a 'yes' from you, or I'm really going to kick you right now.]"
> "[Try and I'll break your leg!]" Willow grunted in reply, all mirth suddenly gone from his face. His eyebrows drew down and his eyes flashed with anger.
> She nearly backed down and apologized, but a stubborn streak made her flare her nostrils and blow a lungful of hot air out. It made impressive swirls of fog in the dim light of the fire.
"[I'm stronger than you, and I'm tougher. The only leg broken would be yours.]"
> Thistle tensed, ready to spring aside. She visualised herself turning around and bucking at his midriff - carefully so she didn't permanently injure him, but strongly enough to put all thoughts of fighting her out of his mind.
> For a long second, neither of them moved. Then Willow's face relaxed. "[Good. If this is so important to you, I will support the idea. On one condition.]"
> She kept glaring at the man for seconds out of pure shock. Surely he wasn't backing down? Maybe *he* was the one having that monthly heat nomads had instead of Inju? She'd seen how erratically the females acted sometimes.
"[What? Why?!]"
> Willow shrugged and picked up his stick again. He gave the fire a good poke. "[I wanted to see if you were really determined. You always try to please everyone, I had to know this was something you want, not something someone else told you. I know you want to lead, even if you hide behind Salki. I don't care like my mother does, but our leaders have to be strong. It's why I didn't care that Darga was Chieftain. She is strong.]"
"[Why are you weirder every time I talk to you?]" Thistle groaned. "[What's the condition?]"
> "[If we go to your pony place, and it is not as good as you say it is. If you are lying, you will come back with us. I will whip you until you learn your place and obey. You will give us more secrets, like the bow, and I will make sure you don't get distracted. Either way, the clan will have a better life.]"
> It was a hard thing he was asking for. Could she do it? How sure was she that Equestria would be better for all of them? Could she lie to him now and pretend to promise? Once in Equestria, she could seek sanctuary with the Princesses. They would never let them take her away.
> The mere thought of such betrayal left a bad taste in her mouth. Besides, she would need to return sooner or later for Rainy Day anyway. She shook her head and lifted a foreleg. She held it out to him.
"[I swear it.]"
> After a momentary pause, he grasped her fetlock and they shook.
"[So that is it?]"

> "[Yes. I will speak with Mother. I know you only came after me because you need my help to convince her. She has the power in Darga's inner circle, not me.]"
"[You keep surprising me, Willow.]"
> He just gave her a smirk, and she responded by sticking out her tongue at him.
"[Tell me when you are talking with your mother. I will be there.]"
> "[I will tell you. Now either cook me something to eat, or go away. I'm hungry.]"
> She opted for the latter and left him in peace.
> Her head was reeling from the conversation they'd just had.

Extremely valuable talents are identified at the training center and makes those ponies priced accordingly. Luckily most ponies don't have that issue and are reasonably priced: usually sold as comfort or assistance ponies, or bought in bulk for simple labor.

I guess you're right. You can hope a supervisor was lousy or the pony is clever enought to hide her talent.

Now how does it work? They artificially start to test fillies and colts in puberty? Every day they force them to try out different attivities what they have flair for or happy to do?
It sounds like a industrialise CMC. (Terrible)
Otherwise, how else they would no what talent will show up at one pony? As it has effect on the price.
What is some one wants a filly? Do they calculate latent cutie mark potential in the price of a blank flank filly?

If you are buying a foal and raising them, then sure you may win the lottery. But for fully grown ponies, I'm sure you would have to pay a high price.
If they are hiding their talent, then why would they reveal it to you? It may take years for them to get comfortable with you. And by that time they know how greedy humans are, so they might just keep hiding.
