There's a place called Kokomo
That's where you wanna go
To get away from it all
Bodies in the sand
Tropical drink melting in your hand
We'll be falling in love
To the rhythm of a steel drum band
Down in Kokomo
Aruba, Jamaica, ooh, I wanna take you to
Bermuda, Bahama, come on pretty mama
Key Largo, Montego
Baby, why don't we go? (Ooh, I wanna take you down to Kokomo)
We'll get there fast
And then we'll take it slow
That's where we wanna go
Way down in Kokomo
Martinique, that Montserrat mystique
We'll put out to sea
And we'll perfect our chemistry
By and by we'll defy
A little bit of gravity
Afternoon delight
Cocktails and moonlit nights
That dreamy look in your eye
Give me a tropical contact high
Way down in Kokomo
Aruba, Jamaica, ooh, I wanna take you to
Bermuda, Bahama, come on pretty mama

>>126679261 (OP)Carnie Wilson wept
Brian Wilson was essentially a clout martyr.
Everyone is claiming this was a random covid vaccine reaction, but it's clear what was actually happening: his killers were driven to take his life solely for the sake of clout.
They wanted infamy of their own and found it in poisoning an 81-year old.
As Brian was taking his final breath in that Los Angeles hospital, he was surrounded by Mike Love and Blondie Chapman taking video and pictures of him.
Why? For clout. No one was taking his pulse, no one was calling 911, everyone was standing around with their phones out as his body was clinging to life.
The moral lesson of Brianโs life story should be a cautionary tale of the horrors of social media and how it's fucked our American society beyond belief.

>>126679859>Definitely my favorite pre All Summer Long albumI rate all of it between 62 and 64 to be of the highest quality for the band, with the car culture album being the most dreamlike for me. I understand why everyone is moved especially by everything post-65, but for me the most "futuristic" stuff is the unselfconscious reflection of what gave birth to the band in the first place. No shade on the later stuff, I just find this early stuff more mysterious despite being more straight forward (in some ways).

In later years, Asher reflected on his interactions with Wilson and his bandmates as an "embarrassing" experience. He remembered that Wilson "exhibit[ed] this awful taste. His choice of movies, say, was invariably terrible. ... every four hours we'd spend writing songs, there'd be about 48 hours of these dopey conversations about some dumb book [about mysticism] he'd just read. Or else he'd just go on and on about girls."[15] He added that his impression of Wilson was of "the single most irresponsible person" he had ever met, recalling that he had seen uncashed royalty checks of up to $100,000 laying around Wilson's house.[12] He was further bemused by what he described as "the weird relationship he maintained with Marilyn ... like something out of The Flintstones. Personally, I could never understand why he'd married her."[16]

SOMETIMES I FEEL VERY SAD
Fun is in, it's no sin, it's that time again
To shed your load, hit the road on the run again
Summer skies in our eyes and a warmer sun
It's one for all, all for one, all for all out fun
Gotta go to it
Gonna go through it
Gotta get with it
Lookin' good Down the hood Of a funky ride
On the way To the tide Just to tan your hide
In the shade Lemonade In the sun ocean spray
To get your face In the race Or lay back's no disgrace
Gotta go to it
Gonna go through it
Gotta get with it
It's OK to get out there and Have some fun
By yourself maybe Or else with a special one.
Good or bad Glad or sad It's all gonna pass
So it's OK Let's all play And enjoy it while it lasts
Gotta go to it
Gonna go through it
Gotta get with it
Find a ride
Find a ride
Find a ride (In the sum-sum-summertime)

Iโve always admired your work, and Paul and I considered Pet Sounds one of the best albums ever made.โ Brian thanked him and walked away, at which point Lennon went right back to his conversation like nothing had happened.

Un-repenting, often empty
Sail on, sail on sailor
Caught like a sewer rat alone but I sail
Bought like a crust of bread but oh, do I wail?
Seldom stumble, never crumble
Try to tumble, minor rumble
Feel the stinging I've been given

Heartbreak searing, always fearing
Never caring, persevering

The gale-swept seaways (oh, the seaways)

Of wicked waters (oh)
Uninspired, drenched and tired
Wail on, wail on sailor
Always needing, even bleeding
Never feeling all my feelings
Damn the thunder, must I blunder?
There's no wonder all I'm under (ooh)
Stop the crying and the lying
And the sighing, am I dying?

Amazing what 10 years can do when you get to a certain age
I saw Brian live in 2016 in chicago for the Pitchfork fest. He looked very out of it even back then
Though Brian Wilson was popular in the 60s, he was also known for his erratic behavior. One day, while performing a live concert with his band, the Beach Boys, he made a terrible mistake.
As the band was playing their hit song, "Surfin' U.S.A." Brian Wilson suddenly felt a rumbling in his stomach. He tried to ignore it, but then it happened. He shit explosive diarrhea all over his pants in front of thousands of screaming fans, some of the hottest names in music, and of course his own bandmates. The fans looked on in horror as Brian Wilsonโs pants grew darker and darker. The stench of his diaper overtook the stage and everyone in it.
The other members of the Beach Boys couldn't help but make fun of his diaper disaster. "Hey Brian! I guess you got a good vibration in your pants! You better vibrate yourself all the way home!" said Mike.
Brian Wilson was absolutely humiliated by Mikes teasing. He was so embarrassed that he wanted to run off stage, but the other bandmates wouldn't let him. He had to stay and finish the show as the smell got worse.
To this day, the story still follows Brian Wilson around. Brian Wilson never forgave Mike Love for making fun of him on that fateful night. He holds deep resentment towards him, even to this day.
>>126680736not this time bro :(
>>126680687America loved the popular stuff. Uhhhh bros... forumla status????
It was Thanksgiving, and Brian Wilson had been designated Chef for the Thanksgiving dinner. Mike Love, his wife Kate Bush, and the other Beach Boys would show up, however Brian would be banned from joining his bandmates at the reckoning, as they had all collectively agreed never again to dine in his presence due to his constantly uncontrolled gas emissions. But none of that stopped Brian from stuffing his drooling, gaping maw with every conceivable foodstuff the holiday applauded.
While Brain was in the kitchen, he could not resist his cheeseburgers, so he carried a bag and held a cheeseburger or two in one hand, and a spoon in the other hand while he was whisking the pie ingredients. As Brain let his own preferences affect his cooking, he declared "THIS PUMPKIN PIE NEEDS POOPOO!!!". With that, Brian pulled down his trousers and defecated directly onto the kitchen floor. Then, he grabbed the feces and threw it into the pie filling as if it were the most natural thing in the world.
Next, Brain moved on to making the yams, but oh no! There were no marshmallows! But fear not, Brain had thought of a very creative solution. Without hesitation, Brian whipped out a nearby picture of Kate Bush in a skimpy leotard and began to fondle himself. This gesture resulted in a long stream of white liquid jizz splattering all over the potatoes that looks suspiciously like marshmallows.
Finally, it was time to stuff the turkey. But half-way through, Brian realized he had dropped a half of his cheeseburger, now hidden somewhere inside the turkey. He decided to search for it by sticking his head inside the turkey cavity. This mistake resulted in Brian getting his head firmly wedged inside the turkey, and he couldn't get it off!!

It was at this exact moment that Dennis Wilson discovered Brian's turkey-headed existence and screamed "AAAHHHH A TURKEY MONSTER!!!". Guided by his wife-beating urge, Dennis began to pummel poor Brian's face, in an attempt to kill the "turkey monster". Little did he know that he was hurting Brian, brutalizing his face and bleeding out through the turkey meat, and soon enough, Brian had died as a result of Dennis' blind rampage. Dennis hastily dismissed the whole incident as he pulled out Brian's lifeless body and placed the turkey in the oven for dinner.
At dinner time, all the Beach Boys got a taste of Brian's disastrous cooking and they were not happy. Mike wisely knew something was wrong right away, and thus did not take a single bite. Dennis, Carl, and Bruce were repulsed and lining up in the bathroom to vomit out Brian's smorgasmord of blood, feces, semen and half-eaten cheeseburgers hidden in their meals.
Mike Love decided to order Pizza instead, he picked Brian's favorite Dominoes Pizza purely to spite his now rotting corpse. As the gang sat down eating, Mike declared, "I'm thankful that Brian Wilson is dead now!", to which Kate Bush replies, "I'm thankful you're so SEXY, Daddy Mike!"

I was able to see him at the greek sometime around 2015. I didn't really understand the full scope of his mental condition at the time. My dad mentioned something about it, and I could tell from watching him he wasn't all right. I could also see how passionate he was about the music he was performing. Even when his hands weren't on the piano he'd have one hand up, pseudo conducting the bigger moments.
Reading his personal life story is beyond haunting, it's horrifying. There are many nightmare scenarios that have played out through musicians over the years. You can be a 27 clubber. You can be a Syd Barrett who recused himself before he even achieved truly massive fame. You can fade into obscurity or get gunned down at central park or stabbed in your own home.
Nothing haunts me as much as Brian's story. Being a complete genius, achieving massive success, and still being crushed by generationally talented rivals to the point of absolute madness and insanity. Seemingly rehabbing and not in control of your life for 50 or so years. I remember seeing some image of him performing like in 1982 at which point there was a concerted effort to rehabilitate the man. A picture of him on stage. He had the slightly confused look one would associate with brain trauma. He's struggled with a regular life since at least then. 1982. It's been off and on tours and in care home since.
Idunno. Rest in Peace you crazy diamond.

I had this dream
Singing with my brothers
In harmony
Supporting each other
Tailwinds, rear spin
Down the Pacific coast
Surfing on the end
Heard those voices again
Southern California
Dreams wake up for ya
And when you wake up here
You wake up everywhere
In the flow of the ocean
And the warmth of the rains
Heard music in the air
And in the waves
The wind chimes, not to rhyme
We had nothing but time
In southern California
I heard the voice of the line
Southern California
Dreams wake up for ya
And when you wake up here
You wake up everywhere
Whoa, whoa, whoa it's magical
Living a dream
Don't wanna sleep
You might miss something
Whoa, whoa, whoa, it's magical
I'm glad it happened to me
Nodded off in a bad dream
Woke up in history
Surfers in the West
The sun ran into the sea
As we headed home
We drove into a movie
Love songs, pretty girls
Didn't want it to end
Tried to slow down the motion
So it could move us again
Southern California
Dreams wake up for ya
And when you wake up here
You wake up everywhere
Southern, Cali-fornia...
(Whoa, whoa, whoa, it's magical)
Southern, Cali-fornia...
(Glad it happened to me)

>The most culturally significant "tragedy" in 1960s rock, according to journalist Richard Goldstein, was Wilson's failure to overcome his insecurities and realize "his full potential as a composer" after having anticipated developments such as electronica and minimalism.[684] Writing in 1981, sociomusicologist Simon Frith identified Wilson's withdrawal in 1967, along with Phil Spector's self-imposed retirement in 1966, as the catalysts for the "rock/pop split that has afflicted American music ever since".

Folks, weโre talking about Brian Wilson, who just passed away. Sad, sure, but letโs be honestโhe was a talentless hack. A total nobody. People call him a genius? Wrong! The real genius of the Beach Boys is my great friend Mike Love. Tremendous guy, unbelievable talent. Mike carried that band, while Brian was a mess, eating junk, mumbling nonsense. The Beach Boys? Thatโs Mike Loveโs band, always was.
And the music? Everyone raves about Pet Sounds. Garbage! The greatest Beach Boys album is Summer in Paradise. A masterpiece! 1992, pure gold. โSurfinโ,โ โSummer of Loveโโhuge hits. Mike Love made it happen, no Brian Wilson dragging it down with his whiny junk. Best album ever, better than the Beatles, believe me. Critics hate it because theyโre fake news, in the tank for Brian. Disgusting!
Mike Love, a winner, told me Brian held them back. I said, โMike, youโre the Trump of surf rock.โ He laughed, we had fun. Brian? Jealous, sulky, useless. Nobodyโs gonna miss him. Mike Love is the Beach Boys. Go listen to Summer in Paradise. God bless America and Mike Love!

He sounded awful and even Al was telling the crowd โitโs like watching Shakespeare recite his sonnets publicly.โ Celebrity deaths seldom make me feel anything but a friend texted me to let me know Brian died and I felt like someone told me my grandfather passed. today felt like the first death I've experienced of a very close friend. mortality has never hit home more
>not even 1,500 posts in the Brian fucking Wilson sticky
This website is fucking dead man.
Brian Wilson sings about "Night blooming Jasmine at his window" on Rio Grande. Guess what's on David Lynch's tombstone?
Today, the world lost a genius, and I lost a cousin by blood and my partner in music.
Brian Wilson wasnโt just the heart of The Beach Boysโhe was the soul of our sound. From the first time we sang together as kids in my living room, I knew there was something otherworldly in him. His musical gifts were unmatched. The melodies he dreamed up, the emotions he poured into every noteโBrian changed the course of music forever.
Our journey together was filled with moments of brilliance, heartbreak, laughter, complexity and most of all, LOVE . Like all families, we had our ups and downs. But through it all, we never stopped loving each other, and I never stopped being in awe of what he could do when he sat at a piano or his spontaneity in the studio.
Brianโs unique artistry and our collaboration gave the world the American dream of optimism, joy, and a sense of freedomโmusic that made people feel good, made them believe in an endless summer and endless possibilities. It was one of the greatest blessings of my life to experience that creative space with him.
It was our privilege to make the world believe in sunshine, surfing, and teenage dreams. My life was forever changed by Pet Sounds, God Only Knows, In My Room, Good Vibrations, The Warmth of the Sun and a hundred other pieces of his soul wrapped in music. He allowed us to show the world what vulnerability and brilliance sound like in harmony. He was fragile, he was intense, he was funnyโand he was one of a kind.
My wife, Jacquelyne, and I are heartbroken. She stood beside me through so many chapters of this story, and we both send our love and prayers to Brianโs family, his children, and all who were touched by his life and gifts.
Brian, you once asked, โWouldnโt it be nice if we were older?โ Now you are timeless. May you rest in the peace you so deeply deserve, surrounded by the heavenly music you helped create. May your spirit soar as high as your falsetto, may your wings spread in effortless flight.
>>126685228Thank you for the harmonies, the memories, and the love. Death leaves a heartache no one can heal, Love leaves a memory no one can steal.
Iโll miss you forever, my beloved cousin.
โ Mike

Genuinely sad news. Brian Wilson is probably the only musician i'd truly consider myself a fan of.
I really do think he was the most creative musician of our era, maybe ever. Smile is a fantastic listen and there's really nothing else like it.
Brian's been reunited with his brothers...
>>126686591>Brian Wilson is probably the only musician i'd truly consider myself a fan of.lol wtf you only listen to the beach boys?
>>126686621nta but I don't think I listened to any other band in 2019-2020
>>126686348heard from a friend of a friend Brian loved Tool's Fear Inoculum. he said it mesmerized him like a psychedelic Mahler and asked for the album to be on repeat for like a month making up interpretative dance routines that resembled a comatose conductor shuffling around after eating every tray at the buffet.
>>126686621Maybe I didn't word it right, I enjoy lots of music and I enjoy the works of lots of artists, but I don't really think of myself as like a diehard fan of those artists. Brian Wilson is the only one who I really read up on and delved into his works and all that. Reading briographies about him, movies, etc.
I'm glad I got to see him IRL about 8 or so years ago. He was already pretty out of it back then, he needed help getting up stairs and didn't talk very much, but he was still friendly and pretty happy.
RIP Brian

We're lucky to have had Brian for so long. Honestly shocked he didn't die like two decades ago considering how awful he lived during the 70's

>>126686679In terms of sequencing JSP's mix is pretty good. I like how they stuck the old master painter and Barnyard bits on to Heroes and Villains as a sort of Americana medley. https://youtu.be/PZzRHI8D5Is?si=-uSyPSFezJHogPks
Otherwise, Anonymuses' smile mix is coming out very nicely. He's doing completely novel and amazing edits particularly on Heroes and Villains and Child is the father of the man. Vastly prefer it the tracks over what dae lims has come out with Smile Ai. However, I do have to hand it to him, the ending of Dae lims' surf's up is completely breathtaking. I imagine people would be more receptive of it if he kept it at just editing the track and making a pseudo medley of Surf's up and Citfotm.
If I was any good at editing I'd probably make a "community" mix for my personal enjoyment. I've always wanted to make my own mix.

>>126688208In stunning timing, I spent the last 4 days reading and watching documentaries about the Beach Boys. It started by mulling over that revolutionary time period. We all still suffer from (and try to make sense of) it today. The natural law was mostly abandoned, and many souls lost the faith. The timing is poignant, with California in the news this week.
But beyond this context or even the band, I ended up honing in on Wilson's character and story. I continued this binge-watching marathon until the wee hours of last night. As I was heading to bed, I flicked across to a certain talkshow which had just started streaming. I heard the headline and was utterly shocked! Unbelievable: the news had broken a mere hour or so before, while I was yet trying to peer into his soul.
A strange turn of providence. What did God mean by this? It makes me reflect on my own worldliness. Despite spending so much time learning about him (and knowing he was yet alive), I didn't stop to say a prayer for his conversion. I regret that. God have mercy on him. My lesson is to remember our duty here and now, before our destiny is met and set.
I think many of us who have spent time on this website can relate to this soul. A sensitive young adult/child. Particularly I'm thinking of his infamous breakdown and burnout...summers spent alone inside his room: only made more tragic by the sunny, social California setting. For the same reasons that he was incredibly insightful and sensitive, he was misunderstood and suffered.
Picture related is a poetic testament to the end of this period (look up the story). I hope and pray any of you anons stuck in a rut find your purpose again. You'll find it by keeping your eyes on where you're meant to be going: heaven.

I gave up trying to keep friends after that. I dropped out of junior high and got my GED, which further isolated me from people. This was all years ago. Since I quit my job two years ago, I feel like someone stole the steering wheel that controls my life. I need a Melinda to fix me.

I read an obituary that said after 67 itโs doubtful that he fully knew what was going on. I donโt know if thatโs misunderstanding of insanity or just laziness but I have little doubt he was knew perfectly well what was going on during that time. Itโs a real shame that that truly great period of Beach Boys music is still frequently skipped

*war music plays in the distance*
>>126691209>>126692127Boomers thought they were uncool unitl the mid 70s when their nostalgia for the hits they lisened to in their early teens came back to them. Radio stations refused to play the Beach Boys new songs after pet sounds after a while because they werent hip. The Beatles and the so called 'baroque pop' movement were the vogue when speaking of sophisticated pop music in the 60s and Pet Sounds didnt grow in critical standing until the 70s.

Genuine question: why do people love Pet Sounds? I listened to it a while back and thought it was pretty good but was surprised to see it be praised so highly.
I understand its production was a breakthrough in the music industry, but why do people say it's one of the best albums of all time?
>>126692783It evokes a lot different emotions in people. A mixture of happiness with melancholy. Maybe feelings of nostalgia for a time you never lived in.
It's beautiful.
>>126692783>why do people love Pet SoundsI dont think its one of the best ever either, but I understad why it is on every list, and I think it should be there. Pet Sounds has a clear artistic vision thru the whole album, and the composition of the songs have a lot of personality (Brian the goat).
>>126681376f googled his ass last month
>>126692891only time youre on the net is when you google his ass
>>126692783It's the sentimental journey of every young man. It's lyrics are poetic in their simplicity and the music is a pop symphony without pretension. It's like a religious journey to the centre of the soul (from awkward youth to heartbroken adult). Every song evokes the melancholy of life and eases the pain of long held regrets. Greatest album ever and nothing comes close.
>>126692783No album has captured the feelings of yearning and melancholy felt by every young man transitioning into adulthood better than Pet Sounds IMO
And song quality aside (they're fantastic), the production alone is enough to put it up on a pedestal with any other all time great album. No music sounded like it in 1966, and almost 60 years later no other music has sounded like it, despite plenty of talented artists trying. I think it was Dylan who said that nobody could record on 100 tracks what Brian did with 4.
