Pop punk is the musical equivalent of a rotten cheeseburger and Green Day is the rotten cheeseburger shoved into a vat of sewage and waste

punk in general is bad, it's just badly played pop music, if i wanted to actually listen to noisy and harsh music i would listen to Noise Rock or No Wave.

I still find it very strange how during the Bush era in the 2000s you had a whole host of popular music that was all about the politics of the time but then this kind of thing just completely disappeared and for the past decade or more there has seemingly been no mainstream music that is about current politics despite the politics of now being even more ubiquitous, immediate and polarized/radical than back then. What is the cause of this exactly? Is it because the kind of rebellious social commentary people who would make such music because the institutional orthodoxy? Is it because music became completely corporatized? Something else? whatever the case it's just weird to me
>inb4 but all muh female pop artists make whiny pop songs about muh gender issues
when I say political I don't mean this lame mundane interpersonal shit, I mean the macro-scale, about the government, world events shit like how Green Day was directly about Bush's America and the war in Iraq etc.

that guy was a conservative media industry plant who lasted all of a single day propped up by grifters on youtube and then was immediately dropped and memoryholed
that's not comparable to something like Green Day at all.

Because rock was popular at the time and a war is an easier concept to band together against and attack than vague abstract concepts like "racism" and "homophobia"
And there were barely good musicians left to attack him after the 2008 recession where rock went down the toilet and was replaced by crappy EDM and clap stomp clap and the remaining rock bands got shittier and more pozzed than ever so most anti-Trump songs were dogshit and quickly forgotten
The only anti-Trump song that has had relevancy was MGMT's Little Dark Age but most people don't know it's about Trump and probably associate it with Emo tiktok videos or schizo LARP edits

Green day is an objectively good band, you guys just hate it because saying that you like it doesn't make you look like a hipster.
Punk is much better than Macedonian industrial dream-rock or whatever you faggots listen to.

Define objectively good and why green day falls under this definition, if you cannot, your opinion does not matter.

Possessing an enjoyable sound, which Green Day does, otherwise it wouldn't be a popular band.

Define enjoyable.
>otherwise it wouldn't be a popular band.
That popularity is not universal. Hence not an objective metric.

A pleasurable activity

>hurr durr define pleasurable
We could go in circles here, since you're just making a semantic argument. That doesn't change the fact that a lot more people enjoy Green Day than whatever hipster shit /mu/ is into this month.
>That popularity is not universal.
It's still much more popular than other things, so clearly people enjoy it more.

Circular reasoning.
>We could go in circles here, since you're just making a semantic argument. That doesn't change the fact that a lot more people enjoy Green Day than whatever hipster shit /mu/ is into this month.
It's not semantic, it's a genuine question. You have to define what makes something objectively good if you want to call it that.
>It's still much more popular than other things, so clearly people enjoy it more.
Doesn't matter, for something to be "objectively good" it has to first be defined what "good" is, then it has to be defined whether this definition applies universally. Your definition does not apply universally and therefore is a flawed definition.

I was listening to a few of the songs on this album Youtube the other day.
This and Eminem's Encore are the most 2004-sounding albums. I felt like it took me back to the Bush-Kerry presidential election.
I have never had that with many other albums.

The composition is fine, it's just very safe, and it clashes with the theme they're trying to present.

They did pioneer the whole subculture of "Safe Edgy" the appearance of being subversive while 100% government, and banker approved.

Yeah if they did something like that I can't imagine they'd get the publishing, movie, and merch deals.
