That's usually perfectly normal, if it's the kind of noise I'm thinking of (shhhhhhhhhhh*bip*shhh*bip*shhhhhhhhhhhhh*bip*shhhh...). This is caused by the transformation of analog signal to digital. Use the spreadsheet in the video description to adjust your input gain, and eventually put a little noise gate at the beginning of your FX chain That way you will eliminate any parasite noise. A little goes a long way.
A noise gate is almost always necessary, at least from the moment you put whatever signal you have to a heavy load.

But the analog route has its charm, a bit of romanticism if you will. It's more straight-forward to start, and will get you playing with the least amount of fuckery.

Either way,, it's going to be tempting to use headphones for all of your learning, and phones are great when you're practicing scales and shit, but sometimes you really need to be loud. You need to learn responsive dynamics, and you need to experience what its like to be a guitar player.
