What's your take on "Back To The Beginning?"

Every band sounded great, except Alcohollica. Lard has no right to be a professional drummer.
I hope we will find out of Ozzy and Jake made amends.
A lot of bands I don't care for sounded great.
Tool was interesting.
Slash was fantastic.
Axel possibly had in ear monitoring issues?
I honestly give big credit to Guns N Metallica for covering songs from Never Say Die and technical Ecstasy.
I missed half of Sammy Hagar because i was watching poor fag editions on taco-flavored streams, so take what I say with a grain of salt.....
Bill Ward forgot some of the arrangements. Especially in the first song Sabbath did.
Ozzy sounded great for Ozzy, and considering his health. No he was not using "backing tracks"
He's always used a harmonizer.
I'm not big on Pantera, but they crushed it.
What did you cock smokers think?

Most bands were good or at least serviceable. Felt like GNR was actually the low point, Axel's voice was really fucked. Black Sabbath kind of blew everyone away at the end against people's expectations, one of the best acts of the event. Steven Tyler also fucking killed it.

ok i get you...i gues I was just kinda blown away because I've never seen anyone play those awesome wah wah-y/slide-y guitar leads live from Never Say Die!, so I was blown away by what Slash did. Axel had to of had monitoring issues.
I mean, even ozzy was rushing like Axel was for the first song. it's so difficult to get good mixes for big shows like this.

That actually explains a lot with Axel but man, it really did detract from what Slash was doing. During the performance people were just constantly cracking Mickey Mouse jokes in both the streams and discussion threads. Damn shame if it was a technical fault.

Well, TBF, the Mickey Mouse thing would have happened ever if Axel didn't have any in ear monitoring issues. Axel, like most singers above their 50's, can't sing as high pitched as they could when they were ages15-29. Axel has to sing in falsetto to achieve what he did, but also what Ozzy did in their respective 20's.
It was the timing of Axel's vocals that I had more of a problem with. He was like.....2 or 3 quarter notes early for most of the versus'. But, TBF, Ozzy was too, at least in the first BS song.

I give the event an overall B-, if I had to grade it. Most bands did very well and a few didn’t. It was bound to happen. Sabbath smoked everyone off the stage and Ozzy sounded a million times better than I expected, that legitimately shocked me. Here’s the link to the full Sabbath set.

Original line up Black Sabbath is my favourite band, but I wasn't going to bother finding live streams and was going to wait until decent quality torrents appear of Sabbath's performance just to see how they held up. Generally, I'd rather watch live shows of the rest of the old bands when they were in their prime. I ended up watching most of it live, and was impressed. I haven't become a fan of the bands I'd never heard before, and the sound wasn't great at times, probably because of the quick turnaround between performers. Sabbath, Ozzy solo, and Slayer were the best of what I saw, but I still enjoyed the rest.

Having looked she is half Jewish from her father but apprently he was a maniac and she estranged from him.
>Osbourne revealed she was surrounded by violence during her childhood and that it was a normal occurrence to see her father threatening someone, or brandishing a firearm
>Arden resented his daughter for dating Ozzy and managing his career.[15] In her memoir, Osbourne relates that he had robbed her, once tried to kill her, and once told Ozzy that she had tried to seduce him, to turn Ozzy against her.[11] She soon lost contact with her father and did not speak to him for 20 years.[16] In an interview in 2001, she commented that her father has never seen her children and that "he never will".[3] Osbourne had told her children that their grandfather was dead but they unknowingly saw him for the first time when Osbourne was shouting abuse at him on a street in Los Angeles.[17] When asked who she was shouting at, she replied Tony Curtis.[11] They were reunited in 2001 and he then had a role in their reality show, The Osbournes.[16] In August 2004, Osbourne stated her father had Alzheimer's disease and she paid for his care in the last years of his life

I thought the Sabbath performance was mid and that with so many props most likely boosting their sound so they wouldn't look washed up.
They also put on the most bombastic special and lighting effects for them, because that was supposed to be the highlight of the show.

But in terms of performance, I think Metallica's was the best. I don't care that they missed a few notes, that autistic bullshit doesn't matter. They were energetic, they nailed 90% of the songs, with a few hiccups here and there, but they played difficult songs, unlike Sabbath's songs that are very slow and structured around simple but memorable riffs.

Axl's performance was so cringe I turned that shit down, couldn't bear hearing it.
Haven't seen Tyler's yet, but will seek it.
Slayer was also very on point, but their music is kinda soulless.
The rest were meh.

Especially during Mama I'm Comin' Home. My mom died a few years back and she loved Ozzy.

At the end of it, I just wanted more. But I understand he's old as shit and in poor health. An encore of the song Black Sabbath would've been the perfect way to end it.

Honestly as much as I love Jake, he wasn't on his A game last night. You could say that its because his guitar went out of tune out of the gate but as a guitar player I could tell he struggled to get his arpeggio runs out, and that's an age thing not a sabotage thing. He would've shit all over bark at the moon (more than that fag Tobias did). Bringing in Nuno as the lead for most of the Supergroup ensemble was a genius decision by Cuckrello.

We Sold Our Souls For Rock 'n' Roll! [Warner Bros., 1976]
By focusing on songs (ten of seventeen cuts are taken from the first three albums) and by omitting such pro-tempo-formula-virtuoso moves as "Rat Salad", this collection makes for a fitting mock-nostalgia document. Also guess what? Four cuts hail from the band's fourth lp, cleverly titled Black Sabbath Vol. 4, which I never got around to putting on back in 1972. And you know what? I've still never heard anything on it. C+

She's way worse than Yoko. Constantly beefing with other bands and ripping people off. One example: Back at Ozzfest 2005 she responded to the singer from Iron Maiden dissing Ozzy on-stage (which was admittedly a huge dick move, you're playing at his fucking festival bro) not by kicking them off stage or putting out a professional statement, but by cutting off their power while they were playing and also playing booing audio tracks in the background. Another example was after Bill Ward didn't want to be in the 2012 Black Sabbath reunion, she had him cropped out of old pictures of the band on their website. More recently she said Kneecap should lose their visas for being too anti-Israel.

Sabbath and Ozzy themselves were better than I expected. Steven Tyler made all the other frontmen look ordinary by comparison. It was cool to see Rudy Sarzo & Jake E Lee there. As far as Sabbath covers went, I thought Tool (Hand of Doom) and Pantera (Electric Funeral), and Anthrax (Into the Void) probably had the best efforts. With the exception of Axl's voice, GnR as a backing band were surprisingly tight. Solid drummer. Axl has the same problem Joe Elliot has these days in that his upper register has become completely disconnected from his chest voice, and it sounds terrible.
Metallica were kinda boring. I'd have liked to see them do more Sabbath covers. Did anyone really need to hear MoP, Creeping, and Bells again for the 10,000th time? Should've at least busted out Sabbra Cadabra.
Phil from Pantera seems a lot more withdrawn on stage than he used to be, and the band suffers for it.
Some of the choices of "super-group" members were a bit dodgy.

That's a you problem. I haven't been autistically relistening to those enough to get bored of them. I haven't heard them for at least 10 years.
And they sounded great to me.
By comparison Sabbath sounded like a bore to me and they looked very much propped by some taping wizzardry.
But then I suspect Lars is also being doubled somehow, unless the footage I see is out of sync with the sound.

When Black Sabbath arrived in the US for the first time, they were shocked at the support and sales they already had, because the band members still had no money. After investigating, it was discovered that Sharon's father, Don Arden, had been keeping almost all their earnings.
Unbeknownst to them, Black Sabbath were just goyim working to make Arden rich.

It's so unbelievably petty too because back then was the time for Ronnie's reunion with Sabbath and they were unironically having a great time. They made three new songs, then a studio album, more than one live album as far as I know, before Ronnie died of cancer. But they absolutely couldn't use the Sabbath name going forward, why? Sharon somehow forcing them to not do it or get bent by the law. My dad didn't even know that they had a second reunion after Dehumanizer until I told him a few years ago.

In one of the most difficult times of my life, I watched Sabbath in 2007 with Dio and it was one of the best concerts of my life. Live eviL was my introduction to heavy metal, but I don't have Heaven and Hell or Mob Rules. So I was introduced to Die Young at that concert and was fucking stoked when I saw them playing motherfucking Children Of The Sea in front of me. Mind you I had seen Sabbath with Ozzy two years earlier with 5 times the size of the crowd and didn't enjoy it as much. As another rocker who was older than me explained in the Dio concert "it's better this way, only those who can appreciate it came, the few and good" and he was right.

Specifically with Jake E Lee, he pro bono'd a lot of writing/playing for Bark at the Moon on the assumption Sharon gave him they'll finalize contracts and stuff before the world tour. At the last second she left it at "either sign on for the band on the pretense that Ozzy keeps ALL your credits, or we get someone to rerecord all your parts." At that pretty much rode out through that tour cycle and Ultimate sin. While this was all Sharon's doing, Ozzy's only opinion on the matter was "it's business, mate"

I saw Deadland Ritual at their only US show a few yr ago, which was a supergroup (Geezer, Steve Stevens, Matt Sorum, and a hired gun singer) that did some original stuff, but mostly covers of their respective material. Geezer admitted the reason it fell through was cause they were effectively starting over as a band, and that entry-level of touring was something none of them were willing to do anymore. He's probably still got an album or two in him, but I can't imagine ever seeing touring from him again

String players tend to age a lot better then vocalists and percussion, but your spot on about the practice and wirting. I heard somewhere it was at least an hour of practice a day, not including writing and doing this and that. Goes a long way in keeping them sharp. They still played slower in this set, a lot slower, then they usually play these songs. You can hear them try to drag Butler, with Ozzy adjusting as he went; so I suspect Butler really couldn't give anymore on drums they he played that night. But hey, dude's aint gonna live forever you know.

I think the fact that Jake E Lee was shot 3 times in 2024 and was still able to play at this was one of the most impressive things. Would've loved to seen him on more of that era of Ozzy's stuff, but it's a miracle he was as good as he was.

"Back in May, Soundgarden was announced as a late addition to Black Sabbath’s star-laden farewell concert, which took place Saturday in Birmingham, England. Surviving members Cameron, Thayil and Ben Shepherd were expected to join a lineup of rock giants, including Seattle brethren Alice in Chains and Duff McKagan of Guns N’ Roses, but reportedly did not appear at the all-star fete marking Black Sabbath’s final live performance."

Me too! I wanted Sabbath songs--mostly Iron Man--but could only afford 1 album and since I was already a Dio fan, I bought L.E. to maximize the main Sabbath songs on 1 tape.

Yes. Though I sat all the way in the back, on bleachers (it was an outdoor amphitheatre), it was the best metal show I'd been to. At the time the only other large acts would have been:
Maiden : No Prayer then Fear of Dark
Clash of the Titans : megadeth, slayer, anthrax, testament (spring of 91)
Metallica : black album
I saw them all and none compared to Sabbath att.

I remember Iommi once stating in the 00s that there is a huge discography of Sabbath without Ozzy and it isn't fair to disregard it.

Wasn't Alice In Chains in the Clash of the Titans?

Must have been a great concert, seeing Sabbath for Dehumaniser. Such a great album. It is disbeartening to see Sharon turning everything into a clown show, taking the blood out of it.

I'm sure you'll do much better when you're in your late-70's as a stadium full of metal fans scream your name and all the bands you've inspired play your songs.

Oh wait no, you're going to die alone unmourned and unloved in a puddle of your own piss in a welfare hospice.

On the special features for the H&H DVD, there's an interview where Iommi says the Dio ear music was always more musically interesting to him.

I think AiC was on CoT, but I had no idea who they were, only that they weren't metal and so didn't care.

Was a great show. Danzig opened but fml I got there late and pretty missed his set, but because it was an outdoor venue, I could hear him crooning while I was sitting in traffic 20 minutes to get to the venue.

fair, but remember how legendary Ozzy's drug abuse was, i mean, his body is like 70% cocaine and acid residue by now. His mind and body were fucked beyond belief when he made that reality show in 2002.

Here's a video from 1999, it's Ozzy's nurse describing how hard it was to take care of him:

By all logic the guy had no right to still be alive in 2025 and be able to perform at all yet somehow he did considering as others said EVH, Lemmy, and Malcolm Young didn't live to see 70 and not even Lemmy quite got to Ozzy's level of substance abuse.

if you want any chance of surviving substance abuse without permanent damage you have to stop before the age of 40 when your body is still able to heal itself. after that it's too late and stopping could even kill you from withdrawal symptoms.
