How does it get any more tragic than Randy Rhoads?
>>126992446Definitely up there. And Randy was also technically killed by his tour bus driver. D Boon as well. But even then, Randy's was still relatively so tragic. I bet Cliff had a few years on him too. Randy was only 25.

>On November 11, 1972, Oakley was involved in a motorcycle accident in Macon, Georgia, a mere three blocks away from where Duane Allman had his fatal motorcycle accident the year before. Oakley was riding around a sharp right bend of the road on Napier Avenue at Inverness when he crossed the roadโs center line and collided at an angle with a city bus rounding the bend from the opposite direction. After striking the front and then the back of the bus, Oakley was thrown from his motorcycle, just as Allman had been, and struck his head. Oakley declined medical treatment at the scene after the accident and caught a ride home. However, three hours later, he was rushed to the hospital, delirious and in pain, and died of cerebral swelling caused by a fractured skull. Attending doctors stated that even if Oakley had gone straight to the hospital from the scene of the accident, the extent of his injuries was so serious he could not have been saved. He was 24 years old when he died, the same age as Duane Allman.
I'd just like to remind everyone that it's always sadder when good looking people die and randy was pretty hot.

>On July 20, 2003, the band was headed home to Portland on Interstate 5 after having played at the Bottom of the Hill in San Francisco. It is believed that Fitzgerald, who was driving, fell asleep and lost control of their van near Eugene, Oregon. >>126992556I wish footage was out there from those concerts he did with Clapton and Derek and The Domino's. Specifically Layla
>>126992436 (OP)I will say that, as much of a boomer take as it is, the Day the Music Died has to be the worst. The real tragedy is that unlike a lot of stories about musicians dying young, there was absolutely no stupidity or poor behavior involved on the part of Valens, Holly or Richardson beyond Valens happening to win a coin toss. Richie Valens and Buddy Holly weren't even old enough to be hitting their primes, and the Big Bopper, who was a pretty innovative artist in his own right (invented the music video), was relegated to being the "other guy who died" given the talent of the other victims. Even if Richie Valens had lost that coin toss, Waylon Jennings would have died and been relegated to history as just some touring musician instead.
Patsy Cline's fatal plane crash (which also took Hawkshaw Hawkins) bothers me too. They had refused multiple offers to either ride in a car or stay an extra night until the weather cleared. So maybe it's not as tragic since there was more human error involved, but it's still a shame Patsy lived to be only 30.
Johnny Burnett's demise was kind of sad considering how the guy tried for years and never quite made it as a recording artist.

should count mainly people who were still young and had a lot of tread left on the tires. i do agree Dinah Washington might have been nearing the end of the road in the mid-60s like most singers of her generation so i don't count her. Marc Bolan probably had more left to give, he died too soon. yet still i can't help but feel we dodged a bullet when we consider the thought of Jimi Hendrix making a disco album or an 80s pop album with giant drums.

In the moments after the crash, she reportedly admonished tour manager Duncan for allowing their people into a plane with a pilot who had been using drugs all night, telling him "Don't you know that man had already killed one of the Calhouns' kids in a helicopter crash?"[15]According to other members of the band, the very next day after Randy's death she altered his contract so his royalties would go to her and Ozzy.

Prince and Tom Petty seem like preventable deaths
>>127000711I don't think the cops intended to kill Roy.
I think Roy was a big guy who liked to drink, and who didn't like the cops giving him trouble. I think the cops, for their part, were tired of Roy being drunk and most of all Roy repeatedly and very vocally not respecting their authoritah.
So one night when the cops rounded up Roy for being drunk they roughed him up to remind him who was boss. But however they did it, he ended up in his cell dead (and it might have been like Berry where in the moment Roy seemed OK, and only died after the cops had left his cell to let him "sleep it off").
But when they came back to check on him Roy was dead. So they sat his body on the floor, took his tie and loosely tied it to the cell bars, and ruled it "suicide."

>>127006588>https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XDAGH9GY65w"Scariest guitar player" usually means some boring shredder but he was good.
>>127008095Shawn was utterly unique. There's the old guitarist joke that goes "How many guitarists does it take to change a light bulb? 20 - 1 to change the bulb, and 19 to stand around saying 'I can do that.'" No one who heard Shawn ever said "I can do that."
Even Guthrie Govan, one of the planet's best guitarists, was in awe of Shawn's abilities.
The most mind-bending thing I ever saw Shawn do was at a sound check. He was playing the keyboard parts to a song from "Powers of Ten" on the master keyboard controller. But then he pressed a patch change button and suddenly started playing all the guitar parts - *on the keyboard*. And *then* he switched patches again and started playing *all the drum parts - again on the keys*. And he kept doing that, going through all parts of all the songs in the set. He could simply rewire the parts that needed to be played - guitar, piano, drums - through his fingers to whatever instrument happened to be in front of him.
I've been a professional musician for a long time, and seen and appreciated most of the greats (either live or on video), and what Shawn was just casually doing as part of his warmup was the most amazing musical thing I've ever seen.
Gord Downie was murdered by witches like in Rosemary's Baby.
>>127006576the thing about Croce, he could really write great songs. like, even if you don't like his style, they're objectively really well written. and everyone knows them when they hear them since they were popular enough to become generally-known, American songbook type of songs. but he died basically before he saw any of that admiration, he was getting popular but his biggest successes were all posthumous.
I'm not a big fan or anything, but that's just sad
John Balance. Coil never stopped getting better and experimenting, by 2002-2003 they were starting to mix traditional instruments with electronics, then Geoff completely fucked himself up with vodka and fell, perhaps by accident, perhaps by suicide. At least we got The Ape of Naples and The New Backwards after that, then Sleazy died too and it was over.
Maybe it was inevitable because you can't stare at the abyss for so long while remaining fully sane and intact. It's also crazy that they made a song called Who'll Fall? 13 years before he died.

did he start all that shit? sure, but it was alsmot certainly because of mental illness that seems to have been very obvious to anyone who knew him
not that friends could have helped
but doctors could have ---- if they'd known
>>127015296he was in his 40s, not exactly the same as others ITT who died in their 20s.
>>127011532Why is Kevin Nash assblasted Kurt didn't want to become a wrestler?

>>126993158I heard he flew out of the back of the van astride a Fender Twin amp, waving a cowboy hat like the bomb scene in Dr. Strangelove
>>127000372This. Buddy had released like 20 historic songs by the time he was 22. The loss is so important that it's almost incomprehensible. Pop radio was still in the fucking dark ages at the time and it took until like 1965 for the Beatles to fix it. Buddy could have done it earlier had he not died.
>>127016546He knew Kurt could have drew dimes in the cruiserweight division
>>127011833I just hate how overrated he is as a person. The dude was a junkie who if he hadnt killed himself he would have killed his son
>>127017211>finally finds success then immediately diesThis was just cruel.
>>127015033>>127018534>Rolan Bolan"They see me Rolan..."
Eric Dolphy and Marvin Gaye, as in genuinely tragic and unnecessary deaths. Honorable mention to Lee Morgan.
>>126992436 (OP)The 17 cats that Ozzy massacred
He bought his volatile father who beat his mother up a gun? I can see the hand of fate in that one.
I always found Phil Ochs' death particularly tragic.
that guy that was married to Joan Baez's sister. can't remember his name. was friends with Bob Dylan. guy was more of a writer but had albums with Baez sister too. i think i enjoyed them 25 years ago or whenever.
>>127022323Richard Farina, another donorcycle casualty
>>127000714Interesting how nearly all these hip hop medical deaths had to do with heart, blood, and kidney issues. Do blacks have more fucked up hearts, blood, and kidneys, by chance?
>>127002985yep, came to post this one. a genuine tragedy
failed by the doctors, failed by fellow jazzmen
>>127004953Aerosmith was supposed to fly with that same pilot a short time before but their management changed plans because the guy was so obviously a drunk shithead.

Jimmie Rodgers. The guy basically invented country music as we know it.
>>127022653Well I think he was super and totally would have let him fly Aerosmith.
>>127022727There's an alternate reality somewhere where Aerosmith are revered, universally beloved legends because they died in a plane crash and never released anything after Rocks.
>>127022423have you seen any video of how blacks cook or what is in their filled ebt walmart carts?
>>126997839Danny Carey from Tool was a good friend of his becore they got famous, apparently Jeff was just a guitarrist before making his debut album so Danny had no idea he sang.
When they met up years later after he had released Grace Danny went up to him and asked him what the fuck all that gay whailing was that he did all over the record kek.
>>127004538>>127005705>>127005856>>127015430Jaco always had the biggest ego, he literally introduced himself as the world's best bass player even before he got famous and went up to other legendary bass players like Marcus Miller and Anthony Jackson and told them to their faces they should get lessons with him in his hotel room. Only Miles Davis was more arrogant than Jaco so it's no wonder he eventually FAFO'd when he was a strung up junkie shamble instead of a young man.
>>127006588>dude did instagram schizo shredding two decades before it went mainstreamit's just a bunch of quick random bullshit like Holdsworth if he were to take speed.
the most impressive thing about it is that he's so fat yet agile.
>>127015033>>127010221>dude cheated on his wife with THIShe was gay was he not?
>>126997064Easily the worst post in the thread. Liking shit music is bad enough, but Sophie fans are always so arrogant and up their own ass about it.
>Only Buddy Holly comes close to the tragic loss of this talentless tranny! That's just insulting.

>>127017256? Tim died when Jeff was 8
>>126992436 (OP)>Drunk retards goofing off in a planeThat's not tragedy, that's just Social Darwinism
>>127004495This is a thread about tragic deaths, not retards getting what they deserve. Literally all 90s artists are "I cry about my drug habit until I die." Zero sympathy, zero fucks given. Their deaths are to be celebrated bcuz one less junkie is one less junkie.
Even Rhoads and Skynard are basically "drunks who did stupid shit and paid". Probably Cliff too, if the truth ever came out.
>>127026288>>127026347Rhoads was sober, and the pilot assured him and the wardrobe lady that he wouldn't do any stunts because the wardrobe lady had a heart condition. That's why they agreed to get in the plane. They believed him and died for it. It was basically murder-suicide.
