quantify this statement in ANY way. seriously. i've never once heard someone in real life say they like jazz fusion, let alone japanese jazz fusion. say "casiopea" or "t-square" to the average person in the street and they'll have no fucking clue.
and, what's the american equivalent? Weather Report? when was the last time you heard someone say that was their favorite band?
this reply has to be bait with how much of an unsubstantiated such an assertion is. OP's album isn't even jazz fusion.

it's alright, but it's not super original. the problem is it got big a few years ago with people who've never really listened to Jazz before, that synthesized with the whole 'thing, japan' phenomenon and lead people to gush over this album unwarrantedly so. that being said, it's still pretty good.

The japanese have zero soul. They are the richest average people on the planet, they suffer from nothing but meme loneliness and live in the safest most comfortable place in the world. Meanwhile the original american jazz dudes were social outcasts living on the edge, focusing their whole existence on their craft and their addictions, they threw everything away for a chance at showing the world what they were capable of. If you can't tell soul apart then you should just give up.

If soul is created from the existentialism brought on by living conditions than you could argue the unique existentialism of living the Japanese lifestyle could lead to soul in the same way poverty does for niggers. It’s not fair to say only the specific struggle of niggers in america is capable of producing soul, especially if your main reasoning is that the struggle alone is what makes them unique. Everyone has struggles to draw from and the Japanese are especially capable of putting their craft before their well being. It’s even an aspect of their culture to do so. And if you’re going to somehow shit on this or call it fake, remember you’re arguing that the life of a struggling alcoholic is more self devoting to art than people who will work themselves to the bone for little pay, just for a chance to get their work out.

Just like with any other country, all the best Japanese jazz artists lived and worked in America.

Also, the best countries for jazz outside of America are actually Denmark, Italy, Finland and Brazil.

Japan bought up most if not all looms from the US sometime either in the late 70’s or 80’s. The looms were phased out because they had no inconsistency’s with weaving fabric leaving the fabric with more texture and depth. The Japanese turned that ‘flaw’ in the vintage looms into an aesthetic art form making some of the best heavy denim IMO. Then dig into rope dying denim with real indigo over ink dyes.

Japan doesn’t fuck around when it comes to any craft, the master it. I’ll never wear anything else that Japanese denim. Japanese pressings are great too.

That’s very nice and all but doesn't change the fact that all japanese jazz is derivative garbage vastly outmatched by american AND european jazz musicians, europeans who don't get even an ounce of the worship japanese get because there's no sugoi kakoii aesthetic linked to them that could attract masses of internet tourists who have zero interest in the actual music and simply want to use it as a fashion accesory for their deluded idea of what life is like.

All jazz is derivative and life is life. Just because Europeans act like they reinvent everything they touch doesn’t make what they do any less derivative than when Japanese do it. When the Japanese take on a form, they often improve upon it while respecting the inherent nature of the form. Just look at the Beatles. Came to America, went back to the UK, started getting more into soul music, transcendental hippie BS, folk rock (Bob Dylan, Byrds, etc), and the LSD movement before smushing it all together. Consequently everyone acts as if they reinvented rock and roll with Rubber Soul not realizing they were falling for something similar to “thing, but Japanese”. Then regarding living, the average Japanese has worked harder than the average nigger across all decades of time.

You are just embarrassing yourself showing how little music you've listened to and proving you're just a japanophile with no arguments beyond stupid esoteric shit ala muh honorabru samurai they perfect their craft wow

It's crazy how the people most opinionated on jazz by far are people who just started listening to it or admit they don't but are addicted to the culture wars nonetheless. I will sit here listening to Sun Ra watching you all squirm like ants drowning in raccoon vomit.

I don't actually like gaming that much either. But in terms of pacing THE MUSIC THEY USE is better. Specifically I mean Chiptunes and BGM maybe some stuff from horror and fantasy titles. I'm mostly just thinking electronic music. I don't like J Pop and like spacy electronics prettymuch. But the music often used in anime does definitely upset I think most people with a functioning attention span. Gaming itself I'm not as into. But some older videogame music is fascinating due to technical limitations. Maybe though idfk. I'm tired and my back hurts. I might say fuckit and get food haha.

The difference is just that the music is good versus isn't desu. Is all about pacing and presentation for me. Most of my epic autism moments and hot takes on here come back to that. Atmosphere etc. I'm not trying to seem sophisticated either. I just smoke too much weed so I like some unusual stuff in there.

The Anime Sounstracks I hate so much are the intros and songs that sound like they could be. The sort of super hyperactive j pop type garbage. When I say I like JRPG Soundtracks I mean the borderline neoclassical or ambient super needy fantasy/sci-fi stuff with lots of synth and atmospheric bits. This is also probably reflected in my opinions on the vu and Hollies and jimi hendrix being "better than" the Beatles.

I unironically view Nico and CAN and other like 70s Euro Psych as the pinicle of culture haha. My parents like jazz though. But personally feel more authentic playing more prog and psych and classical+eurofolk inspired stuff heckin problematic as it may be. Also what I like in black metal. Verymuch a continuation of the western singer songwriter tradition.

Nah I get what he's saying. But it comes down to pacing for me. In terms of like hearing shit blasted by drunk college kids or fucking coworker music or your high with friends and they try to put on some songs they like hearing it's from an anime is usually way worse than hearing it's from a videogame. Also in terms of my YouTube recommendations honestly. I've probably seen more anime tha I've played videogames in the last ten years even. Buy videogames lend themselves to better soundtrack work. I also like a lot of stuff from horror films desu like the old ones. Horror Synth. It's not a particular interest in gaming nor really my main issue with anime as a genre which it is.

The music used in videogames is like tends to be some mix of classical/eurofolk/electronically but by a Japanese guy. The music used in anime is J Pop which is realistically just the precursor to K Pop. Unironically vudeogame Soundtracks are comparable to shit I've already said I like and Anime Soundtracks to shit I already said that I hated. At least like you know the stuff I'm actually talking about. It you only get your musical opinions from playing vidya you're probably a retard but like resident e IL type music and shit. JRPG Soundtracks.

I'm listening to Cassiopeia, and it's kind of funk. It's jazz, but it leans toward funk. Even much of Masayoshi Takanaka's work is rooted in funk. I personally like Jap jazz, but I understand why jazz fans don't like Japanese jazz. It's because these people don't like the genre. Their taste comes from the accessible funky sound, mainly because of anime and games, and also that thing about Japanese music “sounding different,” which really bothers me about the “different” statement because a lot of non-English music, including pop, sounds different. And these people are incapable of appreciating it; they're not much better than a normie who gobbles up anything that's popular to score points with other normies. That's my only pet peeve. The rest are just butthurt jazz fans grasping at straws.

Nobody in current year is walking around talking about jazz fusion though and most off that shit is just seen as psych rock or prog in retrospect. Jazz was interesting to people in the cringe and lame time before psychedelia happened mostly because there was nothing else prettymuch. You guys can't into Psychedelia so you got into something lamer and more safe. It's fine.
