Lackluster, I'd say the 2000s was the last decade of innovation, with "avant-garde" everything, resulting in albums like the iconic Blackstar. After speed listening/binge over 100 albums, you see that, while there's virtually no limit for "innovation" most of it will suck. Pop, rap, R&B... saturation, hits aren't even catchy to me anymore.

your brain has hardened and begun to shrink so there's really no point. you will find a reason to dislike any good new music offered to you. it's a common trope on this board

99.9% just like always, the cream rises to the top, fortunately years of lead and microplastics and intentionally watering down the arts leaves us with the desolate void of 2025

True, unless you really like a specific genre/band, it's 100% not worth it to do research on music, I've tried it, waste of time.

If someone offers me a "good song" I don't care who is it from/which year, no one on this board did though, all my top 300 songs I found by myself, heck even tiktok helped me more. I'd classify songs into 6 categories :
>1)insta favorite, blows you away the very first time you listen
>2)great, a good song that stands out
>3)good, you like it then add it to the pile
>4)average. not bad, forgettable
>5)not good/bad. when will it end ?
> 6)awful, turns it off.
No song I ever found through /mu/ fits 1 or 2, nor were any released in the past 5 years.

Delusional. Music was shit in the 2010s also. You have to be old at this point to remember it not being prettymuch.
Anonymous No.127176436 [Report]

I don't. I was young in the 2010s. Everybody agreed with them. The consensus back then was the same. The 2020s have not been much better. The 2000s were also incredibly mid.

As awful as tiktok may be, even it still mogs /mu/ when it comes to finding good music. It seems people only come here to dump boring garbage. Tiktok : Space song, Mary on a Cross etc... /mu/ : Swans, The Glow pt. 2, Pink Moon..., /mu/ sucks, may as well take this crap down.

humans are inbuilt to not take seriously anything done or said by someone younger than them. this includes songs. every fibre of your being tells you when a 20-something is singing about the meaning of love or life or getting high, "i don't give a shit, it's already been done".

>4chan is shit now.
4chan has been shit for a few years now, /mu/ even worse, that's why it died. If you compared traffic in the past with today's, you'd see why 4chan staff is so desperate (they take down any thread/comment linking to a better place to discuss music for example) to keep the meager numbers, especially after the Sjack hacking.

99% of all music from the 90s was forgotten because it was dogshit.
99% of all music from today will be forgotten because it is dogshit.
Either wait a while for everyone looking back at the 20s to only remember good songs or just look through the dogshit to find a good one now.

but there were movements and yearly releases with both immediate pop cultural impact and lasting regard, by comparison what's the most relevant song of the 2020s, wap? or the kendrizzy beef?
any decent work is being done by autists mining out microsubgenres with no wider relevance beyond music nerd circles

/mu/ is what you'd get if you took everything bad about music, and put it on one place, is either k-popslop, olivia... fantanocore, boring crap like "Pink Moon" or obscure albums, that remain that way for a reason. /mu/ is the last place I'd indicate for any newbie seeking good music, but the 1st I think of whenever discussing music, I'm told to "go to hell".

Music doesn't get remembered or not remembered arbitrarily, there's a certain science to it. Basically whatever doesn't influence modern day trends or is popular with critics/tastemakers falls by the wayside.

Yeah but it's different. When I was in high school I was still listening to Led Zepp and 80s Metallica, I didn't find those older bands lame or shit. Despite them being from my parent's time.

And my parents did not tell me the music of my time was terrible. Actually they even said some of it was good. They liked songs like Unforgiven because they were normies

Most likely because the alternative could have been listening to Disturbed or Simple Plan.
Anonymous No.127183416 [Report]
That's why over the years I left famous bands/artist that I've never listened to so I can have something exciting to bump in the future.

I just started listening to Radiohead 2 months ago. What a treat.

I have 4-5 artists like that to look forward to.

But there's good new music, you just have do dig or whatever.

Humanity is losing its connection to its collective divinity. Music that was merely mediocre even 20yrs ago now shines like a beacon in comparison to the garbage out now.
