Depends on your needs. Straw brooms are better for out-of-doors applications. The plastic ones, with shorter whisksers, for discrete, indoor work. You merely pick the one best suited to the task.

Don't go analog route brother, you'll just end up getting your house full of useless gear that you can't get rid of that heats up your small room

DAW, Audio Interface (Scarlett) is good and free Amp sims like Neural Amp Modeler is all you really need. Maybe EQ pedal. Go minimalist, go digital. It's a learning curve to use DAWs, but you will sound better than these materialists and it is much more Fun and you will have endless options

totally fine, once you get the signal into your computer then its up to what plugins you're using as to whether it will sound good. what are you using at the moment?

every company offers trials of their stuff so feel free to try a few out
if you use a vst hosting program, try out the bluecat amps, they're free and sound great for the price.

pluginalliance also offer free amps if you sign up to their mailing list and then block the emails

Preamp either means the literal preamp that amplifies your signal and shapes it's tone, or a pedal/plugin "based on a the preamp of a famous amplifier". These are paired with IRs (basically a digital capture of an amp speaker) to make the guitar sound like a guitar. Without these it's gonna sound like sterile ass.

Newfag, consider one of these + power supply. What I like is that it works right out the box, and then you can experiment with plugins/ir loading/vsts when youโ€™re ready. You also donโ€™t have to be tied to your laptop every time you wanna play.

I do all of my own setups and tech work and all that stuff, I can do basically anything but repairs and refinishes, how feasible is it to do it locally for money? I live in a small town without anybody who does any guitar work and the nearest who does is one guy about an hour away or another about an hour and a half away in the opposite direction. Itโ€™d just be something making money on the side, I wouldnโ€™t be quitting my job or expecting a career out of it or anything, just something to make some extra cash. Do you think something like that is even worthwhile?

No, it's absolutely not "sped" up

I recorded another jam right after it on top of some 80s rock shred YouTube track and it has several runs with the same speed as that vocaroo:

https://vocaroo.com/178uds3aM5F6

You think I would manually speed up the fast parts and and then play normally the rest? These are recorded live on the fly, no mixing or anything. Just press YouTube on, Reaper playback and open Audacity "Record"

I've posted in these generals for years I think even faster vocaroos. Here is BOSS MZ-2 demonstration

The quickest I've clocked Michael Angelo Batio's picking is about 16.5 ish notes per second in recorded songs, this effect happens when you pick the string around and over 20 times a second or more. A sonic boom is a sound associated with shock waves created when an object travels through the air faster than the speed of sound, this is a similar demonstration, this is also true in the realm of guitar playing speed picking

https://vocaroo.com/1kxM8Bel3QwG

The feedback effect can be heard at around 1:22 first time, but I could not get past 16.5 on a first try, however at 1:53 mark the "speed of light" feedback was achieved properly and picking speed was probably more than 20 times per second. This is the closest thing human shredders can achieve in terms of emulating sonic boom and other extremely powerful physics phenomena when extreme amounts of sound energy are created either through explosions or extremely powerful engines breaking the sound barrier.

This is not some sped up nonsense - this is straight up Physics that MAB termed PPS (Potential Picking Speed). Shredding is closest thing to Rocket Science in the realm of instruments and guitar theory

Chord question kook

Something happened man.
I wanted to try some 7th chords (is that the same as add7?) to test and practice my understanding of scales and chords.
So I played:
Cmaj7 (C, G, B, E)
Fmaj7 (F, C, E, A)
Emin7 (E, B, D, G)
G7 (G, D, F, B)

I crossed past the octave to "SoLo' and when I pressed the A note somrthing interesting happened. The A note went with all the chords I played. Then I figured if I played a mixture of A lydian and A minor pentatonic, the solo sounded as if it belonged there.

Can anybody explain this to me?

you never really call a chord "add7". "add" denotes an atypical chord extension (i.e. one not derived from stacking thirds). major/minor/dominant 7ths are by far the most extensions in music, because a) they're just the next third after the 5th, and b) they perform clear functional work as well as providing colour.

>The A note went with all the chords I played.

Yeah, it's called a pedal point. It's a pretty standard technique. It's useful for modal mixture in parallel keys, like your lydian/minor pent example.

>Cmaj7 (C, G, B, E)
A is the 6th.
>Fmaj7 (F, C, E, A)
A is the major 3rd.
>Emin7 (E, B, D, G)
A is the 11th.
>G7 (G, D, F, B)
A is the 9th.

A works easily here because the note fits naturally, in different ways, with all four chords. But you can use pedal points for dissonance as well; basically anything can "work" if done right. This anon uses unresolved, non-diatonic tensions throughout an entire song >>127252852 and it works fine because he commits to it.

Looks like one of their acoustics? They barely have anything to do those. It's literally shovelware. They outsource a bunch of basic junk to China.
They have some design blueprints, but it's usually not that involved. Only if it's USA or Mexico. And the only acoustics they make in Mexico and US now are those acoustasonic things. They used to have a primo Custom Shop, which was just the Guild guys. But they sold off Guild.

I know of Zhengan and Cortek (Cortek is technically South Korean, but they produce all of their trash in China and Indonesia). Other companies use them to outsource on their cheaper models. Some companies were wise enough to buy up their own factories. Like PRS SE's are made in a PRS factory in India.
You can do this yourself if you have a little capital. That's what Chapman did... but tried to larp like they were primo.

New string sound sucks, I donโ€™t use a pick 95% of the time so I rarely if ever break strings. After about a year itโ€™s diminishing returns but anything after a few days of rigorous playing up to a year is the sweet spot.

is it a bad technique to strum in a circular pattern on one string in order to strum quickly? i find it easier than just strumming up and down

A little tip, if your strings are dirty but not quite ready for a change, grab an old receipt, fold the glossy side inward and trap the string in the fold, rub up and down, it will shine your string like new.
