anyone have any idea why my volt 176 audio interface is suffering from microphonic feedback and static interference when I use the compressor ? It's even happening a bit without it. Will have to call their warranty department tomorrow. I've checked my guitar and cables and they're not the problem.

No, no, no. I have accidentally clicked the phantom power button when I'm trying to adjust the volume or something in the dark because it's literally on the edge of the interface and can be pressed with almost no pressure. If I do run the compressor I run it in guitar mode. My gain is always as low as it can go, with instrument mode on. I think I have a defective unit cause the compressor has never really sounded good.

I read the manual and figured out a few things. One I needed to lower the input gain on neural dsp itself because even with gain set to 0 i'm pushing too much signal, and also I figured out that it was primarily the channels built in that have compressor pedals active on them that were feeding back. I didn't realize I was double compressing. So idk it's still really noisy but it does sound better than without it. With the vintage tube preamp and the compressor on it almost sounds like a real tube amp.

How does the neck feel? Is it super thin? I’ve been curious about them but I like a fat 50s style Gibson neck and don’t like necks too thin, am afraid the Firebird neck would be too thin for me.

Depends on what guitar style you're after. Ebook with audio wise yes, lots. Arnie Berle's Beginning Finger style Blues Guitar with audio is excellent. Just wish there was video available for this excellent ebook.

David Hamburger - Anything by him actually. He's an amazing teacher and player. But for a course that's incredible look for the Complete Blues Guitar Method (beg, int, adv)

All this stuff is out there online. Annas-archive has the books. But not the audio. Rutorrent has all of it.

I know I'm a cunt for ignoring your question, but I think you should just pay the money if you got it. Everything is free if you know where to look and take your time, but fuck doing that. The best blues fingerpicking courses you can get from Stefan Grossman at guitarvideos dot com. Justin Johnson is a great player who also gives lessons, but his library isn't as expansive yet. Although that might change in the next two years as he is adding lessons very fast. If Stefan Grossman is not for you you could also check out Tom Feldmann of PlayCountryBlues. For electric blues lesson try Griff Hamlin of Blues Guitar Unleashed. No alternatives here because I think he is the best in that space. Advanced Blues guitar lessons you can get at Truefire.

Of course. You can even capo your weenie if you really feel the urge.

A capo is just a "nut" replacement. It helps you to shorten the strings and transpose in easier/more familiar chord shapes which can help match your vocal range.

Alright guys, here's todays tip. A free, very usable (has lots of alt tunings too) guitar tuner software for Windows. It's small, no nags, viruses or bullshit. It's ugly as sin though. Author got into a fight with Photoshop filters many years ago it looks like. But this thing works awesome and has been free for years.

I share it with you to add to your collection.

Features:
- High accuracy (uses 16 bit / 44100 Hz input!)
- You can tune guitars with no signal output (through microphone)
- 27 different tuning types (standard, lowered, dropped, open tunings, Hawaiian etc.)
- Modulation of root frequency
- Tuning with midi tones
- Nice and simple environment
- it's free!

Look for the DOWNLOAD button on the webpage dgt230.exe (1.3 MB)
https://guitar.sk/guitar/guitar_software.htm

HINT, when starting it under DEVICE switch it to MIDI to hear it through your speakers. Otherwise it defaults to FOURIER which means it wants a microphone input and you won't hear shit...

Anonymous No.127352985 [Report] >>127353053

When I say I should look into them it’s because Les Paul’s are my favorite sounding guitars, but I hate how heavy they are (shoulder issues) and I hate uncomfortable they are sitting / how hard they are to play in the upper frets. This would pretty much solve all the things I dislike about Les Paul’s while keeping most of the tone I like.
Anonymous No.127352990 [Report] >>127353041 >>127353308
dumb question. does scale length make a difference in sound? for instance these two guitars are similarly shaped, both use p90 style pickups, but as you can see one guitar has the bridge halfway through the body, while the other has it near the bottom. i would think the strings covering more of the guitar would mean more vibration, therefore more sound. but what would i know

It makes a difference in how much tension in in the strings. Higher tension strings tend to sound brighter. My Strat with a Duncan JB in the bridge sounds brighter than a Les Paul with the same pickup in the bridge. Of course where the bridge pickup sits in relation to your fretting hand matters as well. All guitars will sound different.

Why are PRS guitars so divisive?
Genuine question.
They seem pretty good, even the SEs from those I could try for myself.
Not quite my taste when it comes to their look, but not sure why that would matter. I don't like Teles either but I don't see a reason to hate them or anything.

I heard that they are considered "lawyer guitars" as in people who barely play but buy expensive guitars to have them stand around in the office or at home for guests to see them.

Every PRS I've played has been great but they're just ugly and I don't see the value. I don't need $2k worth of cosmetics on a guitar that's going to get scratched and dinged up anyway. Some people are really into specific grades of flamed maple tops and the guitars themselves are top quality in that regard, I'm just not one of those people.

Mainly because they don’t have any unique tonal character unless you’re going for a buttrock sound. I’ve owned a few se’s and played cores. It’s kind of like a Strat, tele, and Les Paul combined but it doesn’t do any of them that well. For a cover band, they’re pretty versatile in that regard because one guitar can do a wide range of songs, but it’ll never be the exact tone you’re looking for.

tl,dr: I'm curious about getting a hollow body guitar. Thoughts on them?

desu it's mostly because Killing Joke's Geordie Walker used one and I love their sound. A lot of reviews I've found of different guitars say they're kinda unwieldy because they feedback a lot (some claiming this problem is "fixed" by semi-hollow guitars). On the flipside Geordie said he preferred it because playing chords on a solid guitar all the notes become a muddy mess, whereas with his hollow body he could hear all notes push through. In my music I might use a lot of suspended chords too so that kind of clarity would be nice.

Sound is great but you can get feedback sometimes with mics and amps. I like them personally. But I have always loved mickey mouse ears. desu I think it's just a matter of dexterity and practice. but there's different ways to play that. if you start playing the 5th fret with your pinky, it's easier to leave your index on (or close to) the 2nd fret, and just lift your fingers to reach the note instantly. or if you want to do a slide, play the 5th with your index and slide down. can also play the B note on the 7th fret of the fourth string. so you start on the 5th fret with your middle finger, then use the pinky on 7th on the fourth, and your index for the 4th fret on the third

keep your thumb in the middle of the back of the neck and hold the bass like you're holding a sandwich. you should be able to play very relaxed even though it's a bass. you're gorilla gripping the hell out of that thing. you could stand to angle the neck up higher to put less tension on your wrist but idk if you plan on playing metal and slinging that thing down to your knees

>Why are PRS guitars so divisive?
Because most people who try to play guitar don't know anything about guitars.

It seems only people who can't afford them (and the SE line is very affordable) have a problem with them.

While not everyone chooses to play or own them, I've never talked to anyone else in the music business who doesn't respect Paul's guitars - and Paul himself.

Paul's whole shtick is that he has a photographic memory for tones and superhuman ears (his actual words, not kidding) and therefore even shit like switching the material of the tuning pegs from metal to hard plastic absolutely DOES change the tone and sustain of his guitars and you should totally fork over Fender custom shop money for an assembly line guitar because the woods that create the best sound just so happen to be the most expensive pieces of maple and mohagony there are.
He is basically the equivalent of the guy who sits down at every student rally to debate them about gender and race but in his case it's tonewoods.

SE Indonesia shitplanks are already their biggest cashcows, that's why Paul is now so aggressively shilling his SE "quality" in most recent videos like that one with Rick Beato where they spent 20 minutes masturbating over three 60s strats only for Paul to whip out an SE and start his snake oil chants.
Tim Pierce now plays the SE from the video, who knows how much cash Paul is paying him for that.

It's really fucking funny to see Paul behave like a cult leader in front of fat rich boomers during a talk at Chicago Music exchange talking about the magical qualities of extremely expensive toanwoods only for him to go onto the biggest music youtuber some time later and shill his Asian shit planks against six figures worth of Fenders. Guy couldn't be more of a grifter if he tried.
