/xxr/ - Extreme/Experimental Rock
Kemper edition

A thread for extreme, abrasive, technical, progressive, or experimental rock-based music.
This means metal, hardcore, experimental rock, noise rock, and others.
Music that is mainstream, "alternative", novelty-driven, "proggy" but not progressive, or not primarily rock, is discouraged.
>Is [genre/band/album] fit for /xxr/?
If you have to ask, probably not.

>I haven't abandoned all hope for /rustal/, but fuck does it get bad.
Yeah, there's been a select few decent threads in the past couple weeks or so... but goddamn when /metal/ gets bad, it gets genuinely fucking unusable for anything other than shitposting. Most of the time I just hang out there to post what I'm blasting and talk to people about it, otherwise that general's a complete and utter joke.
>Have to split your eggs to multiple baskets.
Yep. That's why I started doing the /cmm/ threads a while back. Because most of the time /metal/ just doesn't satisfy my needs, and while I enjoy fucking around in there sometimes... I'd much rather have a general free of retardation, and where I can post and talk about the type of metal that I primarily listen to.

Besides Jute Gyte and Last Sacrament?
https://www.metal-archives.com/bands/Cryptic_Ruse/3540453137
>Cryptic Ruse utilizes xenharmonic tuning, which refers to musical tuning not based on the 12-tone equal temperament or chromatic scales found in most Western music; examples include 11-tone equal temperament and microtonal music.
https://rateyourmusic.com/list/FelipeRYM/microtonal-black-metal/
Another band I found while searching isn't explicitly microtonal/xenharmonic, but may be of interest
https://www.metal-archives.com/bands/Eurynome/3540475436
>The band uses electric basses instead of guitars and defines their style "19th Century Funeral Doom Metal" because of the 436 Hz tuning. This frequency was common in 1800s instruments, so the duo adopted this feature on every track of the production to give the sound a more decadent and melancholy trend.

Finally got to this one. I was unsure about it at first, but I enjoyed it by the end. The vocalist sounds like he's at full effort most of the time.
Screamo's foreign to me (only thing I've listened to is picrel) so I don't have much context for those elements in the music. Beyond grind and screamo specifically, it sounds like there's other hardcore/post-hardcore ideas slid in, and they work for me.
It all makes for both a better collection of songs and a more varied album experience, especially at 41 minutes, but desu I still like the short, simple, fast, and furious kind of grind more.

The songs tend to use the usual Ulcerate crutch of dropping the wall of sound for a calmer moment to force contrast. The drums are also a tad clicky, and mixed loud enough to drown out the riffs when blasting. Sometimes the drumming dials back so the guitar can breathe, and in one track, the loud/quiet dynamic is juggled back and forth for a moment, which I appreciated.
Still, between the EP and full length I just listened to, I feel like I just burned an hour of time.
