To make sure itโ€™s time to change strings you need to sniff your strings and an actual butthole side by side. If you donโ€™t have an actual butthole nearby to sniff you can substitute it by putting your fingers in your butthole and smelling those, but DO NOT touch your guitar with those fingers without washing them because it decreases your toan

Funny because his guitars with Music Man and G&L got even more increasingly more complicated, at at some show a well known country player asked him why doesnโ€™t he just make something simple like the Tele again and it really pissed Leo off, but he went and made the ASAT which IMO is G&Ls best guitar and was a return to tradition of simple Fender designed guitars.

I play medium jumbos as well and I dig into my fretboards regularly. It's just a difference in playing styles. That's one reason why some people pay for a pro setup and then complain about intonation being off. Some players just fret strings a little more aggressively than others. For those that do, maple usually feels best to them.

i own a standard D-18 built in 2004, a 2023 custom D-18 Authentic (1937 model) with a baked and aged Adi top (1935 sunburst finish) and sinker mahogany back and sides, a D-42 custom with an Adi top and premium, absolutely premium, Guatemalan rosewood back and sides, a Taylor all neo-tropical mahogany custom with 914ce features, and a J-41 special. My biggest monster, my most beloved guitar, the one i prefer playing, is the D-18 authentic. Its mahogany is estimated to have sunk in river water for at least 400 years. Let me tell you why I so like her... She seems to be twice as loud as my D-18 standard, and I am not kidding...; She's got the Martin signature sound, the one from way back then...; She vibrates and resonates my chest when I play her...; She must be good for my heart's health; I love its thick neck. There is a reason it was designed this way. It is perfect for my hands...; Don't be afraid of it...: Many of you would like it; She is so light... Revstar: the GOAT, better than a Les Paul
Telecaster: perfect, it's great, sounds awesome
Squier Strat: based, one of the best strats of all time

I was watching a YouTube video of a shop buying a guitar from a guy that belonged to the guyโ€™s dad, it was an early 1950s Telecaster that the dad bought new in the early 50s and routinely played it either in solo gospel stuff or country bands up until he died like 10 years ago. How cool would that be to have a guitar you buy new and then hang onto it and routinely play it for 60 years until you die? Thatโ€™s cool as shit.

The music leader at my church growing up had a 1954 strat just like that. His dad bought it new, played it until he died, the music leader inherited it, and I got to play it as a kid in the worship band since my shitplank at the time couldn't stay in tune. It didn't dawn on me how special it was until much later in life. I couldn't fully appreciate it at the time but I certainly do now. It had a ton of player wear on it, this was before people started intentionally making their guitars look like shit and it really stood out. Not so much wear patterns but just paint straight up flaking off. He still has it more than likely but to him it was always an instrument that had value due to it being his father's, not because it was a first year 2 tone that had a ridiculous monetary value attached.

Like Iโ€™ve still got my first guitar but itโ€™s an early 2000s Mexican Strat and that poly finish isnโ€™t going to wear at all like a good nitro would. Iโ€™ve gigged that thing for years across three states and other than a few little dings and some rust on exposed metal it still looks like 85% new. Iโ€™ll keep it forever but itโ€™ll never be as cool as an old guitar that shows itโ€™s honest play wear from a single player. Everyone that I know has passed guitars along and doesnโ€™t stay long with one.

Don't get too excited, it's an Ibanez SRC6MS. Wanted something a bit higher end than the Squier but didn't want to splash out Fender money. Got it from Sweetwater and it was in good shape with great fretwork. Except that the nut slot for the low E was slammed almost to the fretboard. Knew it was going to buzz just looking at it, and it did. Some super glue and baking soda fixed it right up. The bridge is a revelation, easiest set up ever. My first multiscale and I can take it or leave it, seems more like a gimmick than anything but it doesn't bother me at all so it's fine.

Oh yeah, the sound. With pickups switched to active it has way fatter bass tones than I was expecting. With distortion it's absolutely fuck nasty. It was regrettable at first because it was a nice, white finish but over time, as ugly and gay as it looks, it has character and has grown on me. Mine has also been gigged and run into the ground since I got it in the mid aughts, it could really use a thorough tear down and fresh setup. The vibrato thing is just a personal thing for me. Thereโ€™s a Japanese Telecaster from the same time period locally (but itโ€™s Fender and not Squier) that looks like itโ€™d be slick but the guy wants a grand for it, and I donโ€™t want to spend a grand for a guitar with a vibrato unit Iโ€™m not going to like. I said last thread that you lucked out that the lock above the nut is still there, those are always missing and are impossible to replace. The one on the local Tele is missing. If you like that vibrato itโ€™s a good unit, those Fender System 1 and 2 vibratos are good units. For a cheap guitar (price wise, not quality wise) you scored. That could easily be a guitar to play the crap out of and never worry about cuz youโ€™ve only got $500 in it.

Oh yeah, guys- I have a quick question.
So my squire โ€œeโ€ sn strat.
Iโ€™m happy with it, but Iโ€™m starting to 2nd guess myself.
Like it sounds great, but Iโ€™m wondering if I shoulda just saved and bought an alder body strat, and a color I woulda been more happy with, like those cool graffiti yellow Strats. But then again, I really do not need a $1000 guitar

I am getting around chords presently.
I know what intervals are, but never really understood a very simple thing, which is the relationship between intervals, not just the two-dimensional relationship between two notes a.k.a. interval.

Other than that, I think I understand rhythm, but it's a whole other beast to tame

I got a Standard. The neck is awesome. What are you talking about.
They always say they use hardwoods (generic) for the neck just in case, but it's almost undoubtedly always Mahogany, quartersawn. Second rare option would be Cedar. Both are good, but you're most likely to get a good piece of mahogany. Fretboard is always ebony, but if you mean the splotchy patterns, just hold out until you find an all dark piece. Mine's all black.
Deluxe is cool, but I don't need what it has. Ymmv. The main difference is the torrefied top (VTS). For the cork sniffers, it uses animal/hide glue throughout (I think the Standards just use that for braces), blingy gold appointments, and the fancy schamancy metal bridge pins. I have some of those bridge pins separately, but I don't hear the difference with ebony or bone.

Problems with a Fender strat.
One string can't hold a note. That's not to say it's out of tune, I mean the single note wobbles a half tone out when played on an open fret. It makes open chords sound so bad I can barely stand to play the piece of shit without a capo.

Guitar holds tune otherwise, all the other strings are fine. Real humdinger is that changing the offending string didn't help at all. It's like there's something wrong with the reverb or pickup

Oh that's cool to see in action thanks for sharing.
Does he give specific reasons against doing it outside of beginner arguments?
I assume the main drawbacks are learning material and lack thereof, the requirement to adapt stuff etc.
I was mainly a piano and bass player who played 6-strings (BEADGC), which is what gave me the idea.
I'm not an advanced guitarist however I've been noodling on guitar for years and I now want to properly practice it. I know my scales, how to construct chords and how to harmonize (in theory at least).

the benefits are that any shape, arpeggio, chord or whatever will be exactly the same shape, moving between strings for the root note. the drawback is that it messes with the open string stuff in blues and rock and for open chords, E A D G C that you would typically learn first, you'd have to settle for different fingerings to make them work.
If i could start from scratch, i would consider it. at the very least, it would make you sound different than the millions of guitarist learning the same stuff in their first few years.
if the 4ths tuning made sense for the bass playing you did, maybe give it a shot.
there's videos of quayle talking about the tuning at length if you wanna check it out

could be all sorts of things.
maybe your pushing too much signal into your amp and it's just compressing everything naturally, you could lower the pickups or at least, lower the side of the pickup under the fat strings some if your pickups allow it.
maybe play with the amp eq some, kill the bass and use the mids more, or just pick up a $20 ali express eq pedal, to dial out some of the low end
Anonymous No.127435480
>>127435468
that's why people like tube screamers fyi, they have a high pass filter, getting rid of the low end that your amp doesn't know what to do with. it's why all the low tuned sounds like tube screamers, its a bass cut and a boost all in one

I have a CV Jag and while itโ€™s decent, serviceable, my Vintera and MIJ FSR Jag are way nicer in every way. I have a Paranormal Toronado, again, pretty decent but I would jump at a ~$1000-$1200 Fender Toronado if it kept true to the original design and came in a good range of colors. Mid range fenders are still a notch above the top line Squiers.
