TPAB at #1 is crazy. And I’m just not as big on the Beatles and Pink Floyd as everyone else seems to be. IGOR at 10 but Remain in Light at 31 is a fucking crime. Ants from up There being that high must be recency bias. MBDTF being that high… three Radiohead albums in the top 15 records of all time?
There’s a ton of good records on this list, and my initial reaction wasn’t that bad, but honestly this shit is pretty retarded the longer I look at it. It’s not surprising though. I think /mu/ would make a pretty bad list too. Consensus lists are interesting but also useless in a way because the “taste” of the list is just the majority taste of whoever took the poll.
For me at least, this top albums shit is not easy to decide or critique. The way I see it, album quality is like a bell curve where there are very few albums near perfect, and they’re all so close to each other. Depending on taste it’s easy to rank them wildly differently. I personally can’t even really think of an album that I would call perfect or a ten, and maybe that’s a me thing, but a ten is kind of unattainable, or at least I personally haven’t heard what I would consider a ten yet.
