I agree that it sounds too overdriven, yet I don't see how I could make it any clearer.
I'm using a Focusrite as an interface and FL Studio with Amplitube for the amp simulation. The input is still on the green on my interface, but I agree that the signal is too strong in the DAW... yet the gain is only at 3, volume at 9.
It definitely shouldn't be in the red, but if I lower the volume it will only be quieter but just as messy.

Okay guys, I'm considering two options for my telecaster and am wondering what the better move is. I own a 59 custom shop telecaster, it's awesome and I am considering throwing some considerable money down on it for a stainless steel refret and plek job. I also have a set of titanium Gotoh compensated saddles as well as locking tuners I want to put on them. It already sounds amazing, I mostly just want it to be as playable and reliable as possible. However, doing a stainless steel refret and plek on the fret board at my local guitar shop is $600. As an alternative, I have about $1500 of expendable cash to use on guitar gear right now and I am wondering if it would just be a better move to trade in that tele and instead buy an off the shelf Suhr Classic T. Been reading a lot about these guitars and it kind of seems like they are just super reliable with objectively better modern features. Apparently most of their guitars' standard build includes the plek'd stainless steel frets, locking tuners, compound fretboard radius, roasted maple neck, etc.. I recently played one of their strats at a local guitarshop and I really dug their neck profile, and the finish on the neck felt right. Thoughts? Are Suhrs actually the real deal or are they just overhyped?

If the tele is so awesome why would you wanna trade it in? Unless the frets are basically gone, there's no need for a refret. That guitar is gonna be worth more with time so trading it in just seems like a waste. And if you do go with a refret, it's gonna be even more awesome of an instrument so there really is bo point in getting rid of it.

Suhrs look nice I will admit though but better save up and get it another time if you really want it than getting rid of this one. Just my two cents.
Anonymous No.127507940 >>127508021

Yeah good point. I may just do that instead. Part of me kind of regrets buying the Custom Shop Fender in the first place though. I got it lightly used for $3300, but relatively the QC of Custom Shop is hit or miss it seems, whereas Suhr has a reputation for being very consistent and reliable while selling brand new guitars at like $500-600 less than the Custom Shop. Its like 90% of guitar manufactures including the custom shop-tier stuff have by default decided to pass the expense of getting properly set up guitars onto the customer. With my tele, the only thing I had to complain about is that a couple of the tuners will skip every so often. I'm not sure if thats a result of being "true vintage" with all the supposed quirks that vintage guitars have, but for me its kind of irritating sometimes and its why I decided to purchase a new pair of locking tuners to replace them. I also feel like it wouldn't be asking much for guitar manufacturers in the $3000-4000 price range to install stainless steel frets on their guitars by default. Then again, I guess Fender Custom Shop is technically making guitars to accurately represent true vintage spec.

Oh it definitely is stupid as fuck that such expensive guitars aren't perfect in every way but that's big name brand I guess.

But yeah, I would definitely keep it just because. Especially since it seems like you really like it and have new tuners for it. I get the buyers regret too but yeah, I doubt you'll be getting the same worth you paid with a trade in. Really though, if it plays great for you, keep it. No point in trying to go for something else instead when you've got something that works for you.

Funny because when I was looking at this Tele it was between it or a Benson Chimera. The amp sounded so nice but man I couldn’t stomach the nearly $5k price tag after tax. I highly recommend the Benson Bellringer. It’s the chimera circuit with an added 5 watts (35 total) and power scaling circuit to reduce the wattage and volume when needed. His builds allow you to choose between a 1x12” or 2x12” cab. If you’re playing single coil guitars, I honestly think Benson is the way to go. Not that humbuckers sound bad through the amp, but the eq sounds absolutely perfect with the single coil clarity. I played a deluxe reverb for 10 years and loved it. Sometime later after multiple gear trades, I settled on this benson and can say it’s probably the best sounding amp I’ve ever played. The voicing has the perfect eq with a prominent midrange which helps you to cut through really well in a full band without any loss of clarity. Even at lower volumes, the clean tone still has a really nice harmonic character and dynamic response. When you turn it up and get the tubes running, the breakup sounds like the chime or jangle you get with a vox followed by the bloom you get with a tweed amp. Don’t get me wrong, a deluxe reverb is arguably the most versatile amp ever made and I love its breakup, but the breakup of the benson just sounds so right, and it’s ultimately a much more practical amp with how simple and straightforward it is with the addition of the modern features like the power scaling circuit. A lot of times, a deluxe reverb is too loud and you can’t really get them to sound amazing without turning up to volume 4 which is already fucking loud.

Took me a couple months to really connect with it, but now that the speaker and output transformer is broken in, I’m not sure I want anything else. I bought mine from sweet water for $3800 brand new. I imagine that if you sell some gear to get a good down payment, you can just finance the rest for an affordable price for 6-12 months.

I’ve had some flavor of Princeton Reverb for the last 15-18 years or so and that’s definitely “my” amp sound, but adding something a little bigger has been on my radar for a while. I had a Twin for a bit but it was too much, a Deluxe would be a nice addition but man that Benson just sounded stellar. $3800 from Sweetwater isn’t too bad, but I’d definitely need to sell things to fund it especially after just buying this CS Tele. I’ve been on the fence about selling some more redundant guitars, and I’ve got a few rifles I’ve also been on the fence about selling so I could get the money together without too much effort with some saving and selling. I love Princetons but I’m also just want a little variety in amps after having only a single amp for the last four or five years.

Part of being a musician is the constant trading/selling of gear to fund other pieces of gear that are more useful to you. I ended up selling a bunch of gear I didn't use to fund the Benson. No reason to get super attached to stuff you don't actually use often. Also, a tele or JM is the best sounding guitars you can pair with it, so might as well just go for it. You'd also have a variety of tones to choose from considering you'd own a fender-voiced amp and another amp which is more british-voiced.

Is there a reason you're using that amp in Amplitube? Do you have all the amps? Gallien-Kurger MB 150 s is my go to on ampltube. There others I'd go to ahead of that solid state one too. But if you like it, you like it.
I'd recomment turning off the booster, use the EQ to cut the bass if you are using it (-6db on 100hz) depends on what style you're going for. Also try putting a compressor after the amp.
And turn down the input on your interface, that's very important for amplitube, on focusrite I'd say turn it down fully.

Also, just to mention, they've added some of the good stuff from "authentic" Martin lines to the Standards for some time. Since the 60s, Martin did little tweaks here and there to Standards that made them slightly different than the originals. But around 2017, they redid all of that to get back to basics. So you're getting a great guitar either in a standard or those satin ones. They kept some things in Standards that most modern people welcome. Like a slightly thinner neck. The originals are pretty fat.
What they've kept in the Authentics is like hide glue and Adirondack spruce (more expensive) rather than Alaska type most used these days and they're built in the custom shop by their best guys. But that isn't to say the Standards are built by shitty employees. Those people will probably be in the Custom shop one day too.

the strat is the default build, balanced and you can change build direction at any point.

the gibson is a flat debuff, -25% DEX and INT but also -15% exp gain. It allows slower progression BUT you get the bragging rights perk granting + or - 50% charisma with other guitarists, depending on if they're poor or not.

Are you using the “instrument” button on your focusrite? 0db
gain is full volume. You should not be going into positive gain unless you’re playing an EXTREMELY low output pickup. Think of 0db as neutral, you’re not removing any gain or adding any. I record my Duncan distortions with the input gain on my audio interface at 0db (all the way down) and then usually have to lower the input and output gain in my amp sim another 3-4db depending on the preset and pedals / drive I have on that preset. My pickups are very high output. Don’t just look at your input signal during the softer parts either, you want to be able to play the loudest parts of your recording (hard strumming for example) and without it clipping into the red. If it’s clipping into the red then your gain is too high. I wouldn’t worry about the volume of your track itself at this point, that has more to do with mixing volume for things like your final master.

Unless you’re a studio musician, suhrs are the biggest wanker guitar you could get. I wouldn’t be caught dead playing one live. Nothing says “I’m a wanker who thinks he’s better than everyone else” than an ugly ass donkey dick headstock 5000 dollar suhr. It’s not going to do anything better than a fender telecaster. If you want different pickups buy them for your tele. If you want to look like a jagoff buy the suhr.

And any of this changes if you're a studio musician?
Anonymous No.127515000 >>127515008

Also I forgot to mention that if you do play live normies will just assume your suhr is a budget Chinese copy of a fender like an epiphone. The only people who will know what a suhr is are other wanker guitarists who watch too many tom bukovac videos. It’s a lose / lose. And the fact of the matter is they’re just hot rodded fenders. Hot rod your own fender.

As long as you aren’t flaunting it around like a wanker and you buy it solely because it’s the best tool for the job. Recording on other people’s music requires more precision and more versatility. If you’re just an every day joe there’s no reason to buy a wank fest guitar. Also nobody can see the gay ass headstock. I’m just not a fan of boutique instruments or the jagoffs like Rhett shill who play them.
