Depends on how much and what kind of finish. Poly is a bitch to sand down but it is doable, that’s only half the battle though. I’m painting just my headstock on my JM and that alone has been a bit of an odyssey. If you do go that route, StewMac has a literal idiot proof guide on painting with steps for refinishing as well. You should check out the end of the third video to get an idea of just how nice a finish you can expect, and this is with spray cans, no fancy equipment needed aside from a decent sander in your case.

It’s the tip of a tooth pick, probably overkill, but I didn’t want to fill it with super glue like some places suggest for stuff like that or the neck pocket holes when wet sanding. Very rarely do I pick up a telecaster and think it feels good. Not sure why. I like the looks of them just fine. I think it's the neck. If it had an SG style neck it would be great. And I would also say to cut out a top horn and shape both horns to more of a point. Then I would put in two humbuckers and change the controls to a Gibson SG (the best guitar) style controls. The headstock would be circular, which has never been done before.

I’d buy an inspired by custom shop epi Les Paul custom for 1500. You get all the same wood and American components, open book headstock plus custombuckers for 1/5th the price of an actual Gibson custom. If you really care that much where in the world the exact same guitar is made when Gibson employs third worlders and niggers in their Nashville factory you’re delusional. I’d rather have a chink building it, at least they’re held accountable for their job performance with the social credit system and have an iq above room temperature.
