It's also very contextual, last time NIN made a proper album was in 2018 with Bad Witch, a last full packaged album was in 2013 with Hesitation Marks, with Ghosts - Locus/Together people still had some patience and since it was a free gift released during COVID, people really didn't care, if it was released at any other time people might be more disappointed.
But this is very different, NIN finally "returns" big hype, Trent promises songs and that you can listen to this as a NIN album, the fan-base is absolutely starved for a proper NIN album and this was advertised as such.
Also, it's not even a good score by Trent's standarts, this is arguably his worst work. That doesn't help either

Nah, I like EBM a lot, I loved Hesitation Marks which mostly falls into that or at least has influences by that, I loved the techno of Challengers, I also like bands like Front Line Assembly. The Tron Ares soundtrack just isn't very good, it's repetitive, teh songs don't feel finished a lot of them sound like demos, I'm open minded I'd say especially with Post-Industrial genres, this is just pretty lukewarm. Which I wouldn't give a shit about if Trent didn't put NIN name on it, where I'd expect him to deliver at least an exceptional score if not a NIN album.

Heavily agree. As divisive as With Teeth is, Trent would've either overdosed after The Fragile, or made another magnum opus, but keep going back to that same topic until he quickly becomes a legacy act.

There was something that felt incredibly refreshing, the aesthethic was the coolest NIN has ever had, Trent was the most prolific he has ever been with NIN. These are some of his most underrated albums but I think they're some of my favorite he's ever made. Probably "objectively" not his best albums, The Downward Spiral and Fragile are his peak as an artist, but I love these albums more, for what they represent and how they sound, I really miss this era of NIN.

I don't mind Atticus, Trent made some great music with him. I don't think Trent ever became bad as a musician, ever, he is just uninispired now and he has absolutely nothing left to say, he still had plenty to say in 2000s, he was alive and full of things to say, the music was still great and had its own atittude.
When Hesitation Marks came out though, the dude had nothing to express, that's when he started looking into the past, NIN became far more referential than ever before because Trent can't look forward anymore because there's nothing there.
He is losing more and more interest in NIN, The Trilogy not being a groundbreaking smash must have really did him in, these new vocal tracks for Tron:Ares are easily the worst ones he ever wrote, I have no idea how anyone can like them, some of the most boring melodies he ever wrote. It's so blatantly lazy.

Trent is desperate for media approval with NIN and is doing a disney-fied version of his introverted self destruct lyrics to try and appeal to his fanbase.

Honestly, if he gets really desperate for approval he might start making industrial kino albums again once the shit really starts flying for this movie score, people on reddit are even saying it's not a true NIN album, and that's on the completely brainwashed r/nin subreddit.

just listened to year zero again and its so fucking good. no boring songs at all in the entire length. incredible atmosphere.

being front row for a NIN show in 2010 was easily the best show Ive ever seen and its not even close. the sound was mixed perfectly (why do so many bands fuck this up?) the vocals were spot on, the visuals were incredible, the setlist was perfect.
