I finished aother rewatch of Watamote, a lot of things stood out to me, Episode 8 and Episode 10 are obvious highlights, I feel like they make different messages about Tomoko at this current point in her life, also waht made her so fascinating as a character to me.
Episode 8 is pure Tomoko sabotage, literally everyting that goes wrong in this episode is all Tomoko's fault, she covers everything in gasoline, lights the match and then just keeps pouring more gasoline, hilariously broke the way her cousin sees her, ruined a possible sweet friendship with a boy. The way she decides to escalate her lie instead of owning up to it is hilarious.
I find it interesting how consistent theme in this episode is Tomoko using children to earn the respect and fame she seeks. First from Kii-chan, then from the card club. Tomoko cheating at the card game is probably her lowest, most hilariously pathethic point, especially since it was intended to impress Kii-chan.
Episode 10 is the opposite though. Tomoko didn't do anything wrong here.
She returns to school, hyped up, then, seat change, infront of people makes her social anxiety skyrocket. She just wants to escape from anxiety, but her solitary comforting place is taken away. Her over the top dreams where she's mega popular in this episode are replaced being in a club where she's accepted as she is, but she can't get that.
This episode, is Tomoko just trying to live comfortably, it feels very sad.

I don't mind Atticus, Trent made some great music with him. I don't think Trent ever became bad as a musician, ever, he is just uninispired now and he has absolutely nothing left to say, he still had plenty to say in 2000s, he was alive and full of things to say, the music was still great and had its own atittude.
When Hesitation Marks came out though, the dude had nothing to express, that's when he started looking into the past, NIN became far more referential than ever before because Trent can't look forward anymore because there's nothing there.
He is losing more and more interest in NIN, The Trilogy not being a groundbreaking smash must have really did him in, these new vocal tracks for Tron:Ares are easily the worst ones he ever wrote, I have no idea how anyone can like them, some of the most boring melodies he ever wrote.
