objectively things have been pretty easy, i've just been wasting all my time at home doing nothing, but to be honest the fact that ive wasted so much time is making me so sad and angry that im starting to get really depressed about it, additionally i've just been so addicted to my phone that its wreckign my sleep and making me procrastinate on a lot of things and idk my mental state is just completely nuked rn. ok i'll admit its mostly just the phone addiction, maybe i should throw it into the garbage or something.

yes i think you should honestly. phones didn't need to evolve past the feature to call others. now it's like having a pc in your pocket constantly beeping and distracting you. and since our brain works off dopamine you can bet it'll make you waste hours of your life. so either turn off every notification and uninstall pointless apps or just throw it away and get a flip phone.

Do you like the structure of it?
>you get paid, but why? how do they profit from whatever you're doing? surely they dont just give you money because they're nice.
Depends on the institution. Some will be funded by wealthy alumni/philanthropists and request that money be used to fund XYZ scholarships. That really is because they're nice and have higher ideals as a place of learning.
Here I think it's a case of the government wanting soft power and to attract international talent to increase the city's profile as a research destination. I am compensated shockingly well for a PhD student and after taxes I'd probably be taking a pay cut if I went back to teach in the UK... Likewise, international lecturers tend to get a huge relocation bonus and are salaried at least twice as well as they would in Europe. It's an image thing.
>good luck with the stalker
She ended up being less stalker-ish yet somehow more crazy than I expected. She just really, really likes the show that I use as a profile picture in the PhD group I'm in and was very happy to find someone else who liked it. Even showed me a tattoo she got of it.
She messaged me to say she bought a notebook for me, despite having never interacted before, so I gave her some pocky as thanks.
She said I should go to the themed cafe in Shenzhen with her, so this may all be an elaborate scheme to harvest my organs once I cross the border into the mainland...

yeah i guessed as much. honestly i really dont believe anyone above the age of 40 or so can understand people like us.
>I don't understand the point of going there in person
there's this myth that "the employer will be more likely to hire you if they see you in person" which is not true because they only care about what's written on your paper 90% of the times. still i think that going to the place is person is better just because it's an excuse to get out of the house. but it doesn't magically make you more likely to get the job like boomers say
>I don't understand why they need to be bone-crushingly firm
it's a proof of your resolve! i guess. i dont really get it either.

II think my brother and I have grown apart, he's with his phone most of the time and doesn't talk much with me. I also think the algorithm has warped his way of thinking. Also some of my irl friendsjust use their phone whenever we are waiting for something like an order or a queue. What is interesting is that I think my brother has been affected by the left-wing side of the algorithm and my friends are more on the right-wing side. Meanwhile I don't even vote lol.

Another addition to the harem... You seem like someone with a strong english accent, maybe she's into that too. I do like that accent as well, I think it's a bit funny.

You should just go with the flow and see what happens and how you feel, since it seems like she's taking the initative. Also buying her a pocky was a good gesture wow.
It's okay to take it slow but I think you'll still feel a bit uneasy at times (like you mentioned in your other post), as you aren't used to it. You shouldn't still be bothered by this, she probably knows that you are like this and it's fine with it, so don't force yourself to act like someone else.

I know this because even though I'm not that shy, I'm the kind of guy who can get nervous/teased sometimes, and some girls dig that. (I can be dependable though!) It's not like I go on dates all the time (haven't gone on one since October...) but the last girl who showed a bit of interest on me was from one of the countries I went weeks ago. However she wasn't my type (barely started uni while I've been working for a while) and lives too far. I would have given it a try if she lived closer though.

This has definitely happened to my dad. Boomers are probably even more susceptible to this stuff than we are. Makes me want to play MGS2 again.
>I do like that accent as well, I think it's a bit funny.
My accent's pretty weird but I think people seem to like it.
>buying her a pocky was a good gesture wow
I had some lying around since I buy them in bulk off the internet. It just seemed like the polite thing to do since she went out of her way to get me (a complete stranger) something based solely off having a Snufkin picture on WhatsApp.
As my sister pointed out she's probably just really excited to find someone who likes Moomins here since it's basically nonexistent in mainland China outside of recent merchandise. I would probably act the same if I found another human in the wild who liked Tamers, especially here.
She seems nice but I don't think I could date someone like that and I'd rather have her as a friend since I have none here. I don't want to lead her on or anything like that but society hasn't prepared me for these kinds of interactions in the slightest.

They did, but I wish they came with a little more gusto. I was only out for 8 hours. They can do better than that!
>Not really tourisit friendly, is it?
It's not ideal. Shenzhen is basically the only part of China proper you can visit without needing to apply for a visa (you get one on arrival). People do day trips to get cheap stuff because of the currency conversion, so there might be a little bit of wiggle room there vs other cities. Although I've heard you basically need to visit with a mainlander so you can pay everyone.
I think there's Touhou convention there every year but I'd need to look into it. That might be cool to go to.

honestly i think exposure therapy works wonders with this kind of stuff. a lot of the paranoias and otherwise illogical anxieties you get, start fading away little by little the more you experience things and realize people (normies mostly) are actually rather simple to deal with. i guess the uneasiness of being around others might never go away though.

I was really suprised but that too. In fact, like 60% of all the fans are eastern asian (mostly japanese). Even the comic's author official business partner who helps him make merch is japanese too (Suikazura Label). I guess there's just something about Ranfren that tickles the right part of the brain for the japanese, chinese and korean frens. Not that I mind obviously, non-western fans of pretty much anything tend to be much more sane and artistically talented.

Makes sense. I'm definitely less bothered by that stuff after moving but whenever my neighbour would have family over it really annoyed me because they were so loud.

>What kind of harem protagonist are you ?
The completely oblivious but generally quite well meaning and inoffensive kind.

I'm flattered. I think. I'm sure being in the harem has it perks but I couldn't tell you what they are.

Probably not great to work for in the pleb roles but as far as getting specific things to you quickly go they can't really be beat unless you pay out the ass for UPS overnight shipping.
>how do you think you would've fared in that type of jobs?
Awfully. In my last job I hid in the toilets because my supervisor was going to be mad at me that day and then when she was I had no idea what to say.

I found it funny because of how unhinged it was.
>I've thought about learning Cantonese but considering I'll only be here for 2 or 3 years I'm not sure about it, especially when crunch time starts with my thesis.
You probably don't need it since chinese is hard and people would understand you better in english rather than in basic chinese. I'm mostly saying it so you have a reason to go outside more haha. Idk how pricing works for you, but you can always look at courses, see if there is one that fits your schedule/budget and if things get too hard with the thesis you can always just drop out, since the thesis is what is important. From my experience, language courses tend to be like 3 hours/week, and offer a bunch of different times, so they can be pretty flexible. You just have to take into account when do the courses start!

It's fine if you don't mind waiting a month for it to arrive. I've not used it much since moving here since I can just go down to SSP and get whatever I need from there. But I also don't buy bootleg weeb stuff so I only ever used it for electronics or small plastic things.
>i feel like almost everyone has been through this at least once in their lives...
That's good to know I'm not alone. I figured it was just a movie trope or something.

Your best bet is living in an area that's just old people. Our neighbourhood was really quiet until the neighbours moved in.

I'm not much of a tea guy either. Hot chocolate is my hot drink of choice because mentally I am still a child.
>I logged in instagram yesterday and it recommended me a post about it...
The idea of Meta lurking in the thread with us and reading the posts is somehow less terrifying than what's actually going on with targeted ads...
>why do many people have a huge ass? lol
I think he just finds it really funny. I do too. Or maybe it's a bait and switch thing where he tricks you into thinking it's just a DeviantArt-tier thing but you actually get a pretty funny video instead. Some of the episodes are quite plot-heavy and surprisingly well written.

god i wish i could just go to some local shop that sells weeb gadgets n stuff instead of having to buy everything online. and yeah i guess there's a lot of bootleg stuff but honestly compaered to the prices i see on amazon it's just too convinent to not buy stuff there. besides it's not like i buy figures or whatever it's mostly plastic things and maybe a shirt or a plushie

>i wish i could just go to some local shop that sells weeb gadgets n stuff instead of having to buy everything online
It's definitely a big plus of living here. That and electronics are generally a lot cheaper thanks to no taxes. Only problem is it's a bit of pain trying to work out which shop sells what, and whether they actually have what they're claiming to sell in stock.
>out of all of my friends at least 90% of them have tried the "escape to the toilet" strategy before.

But now my Japanese crap is safe if my apartment burns down. Safe in the sense that I can get it replaced, at least.

It's less that and more that it's really hard to navigate the buildings and find the shop actually selling it. It's labyrinthian.

Even here your best bet here is buying your anime tat online, even with the shops that sell that kind of thing.

I find a small comfort in knowing this is a universal feeling. Wherever you go tourists will annoy you.

Healthcare is very affordable here without it as long as you're a resident. Things are just a little faster/nicer with insurance.
