Overall actually does seem bretty gud otherwise, I probably did sleep on him due to the early albums he was so sloppy and the music sucked so bad. The worst was when he would do some plodding gutterals on or off the beat during the doomy sections on the famous album with all the eyes and mouths, man that was total dogshit, probably wrote him off solely because of those lmao.

I had previously thought OSDM to have zero good vocalists, but I'll put Chris into that category, still not that great because I think he actually has no idea what to do during doomy sections (in general he lacks timing for when to add vocals and what to do), and also he has cringe moments like this:

I've seen you mention that before, it's kind of a gargling sound, high up in the throat. This in itself isn't a bad technique, but I think you have to use it very strategically to get a good growl out of it. The voice should drive from the chest and the gargle follow it. Constrained-throat vocal styles sound bad to me. As do vocal styles achieved largely by mouth/tongue shape (e.g. BDM, early CC, later Deicide).

Coroner vocals do leave a lot to be desired, but it's thrash so bad vocals are basically par for the course. I still listen to Watchtower lol.

True, it's one way someone might learn to do growls, basically gargle + yell. I'd call it the 'goblin' voice, which adds to its association with goofiness. Another way to learn is the "annoyed teenager", basically an aggressive sigh that brings out the rasp. These methods get you familiar with the process of doing gutturals, which you then hone in tandem with your chest and head voice. So I think the gargle can sound good if it's part of a developed technique, but I can't think of any examples of this lol.

Although I will say at least they have lots of dive bombs and noisy leads unlike Demoncy, who just have flavorless paralLEL fifths with nothing else.
