Ride your bike faggot
I only rode once to work this week ~ 30km
I want to kill myself, I overslept two days in a row
>>2045383you have a nutrient deficiency, most likely protein
>>2045384you might be right, I am trying to loose weight so I am eating less, I am so tired these days, this week went away in an instant
last week I rode 4 times to work so 150km
>>2045383I have also not been riding as much as i should, its hot as fuck and the sun brings all the tourists. roads are busy just so karen can get her ยฃ6 ice cream at the beach
night rides have been nice but if i wanna go for a decent length im getting back at like 2am
>>2045385you should always take a little carbohydrates before your rides even if you're trying to lose weight. exercising on a deficit and no fuel to burn is going to throw off your sense of satiety and you will likely massively overeat at the next opportunity, it sounds counterintuitive but you sometimes have to eat "more" to actually eat less
you don't have to eat a whole pint of ice cream but at least drink a juice or something. if cost is an issue you can get carb powder and protein powder at a fitness type store
>>2045380 (OP)Only did 35km today because it was fucking hot. Other roadies did check out my bike tho and made me blush
>>2045380 (OP)>Ride your bike faggotOK.
I was all up for a DRT but not when you include fucking strava like its a fucking lycra warrior general. I will be hiding this thread. do better next time fucking idiot
>>2045388oh I am absolutely fueling during every ride
its ~55 mins 17.5km to work, and I drink somewhere between 200 to half a liter of isotonic drink with carbs with it
and on the way back I take a detour sometimes, so it goes to 40km a day, but this heat...
>>2045387yeah... the heat sucks, sweating 1 hour before work, then sweating all day at work like a pig, then getting on bike and riding for an hour....
atleast it doesnt get dark at 5pm
oh and all of the trails are now overgrown rip
this is the shit I drink, its from decathlon
>135kcal per 500ml water bottle
>35g of carbs
>15-25% of different vitamins
I bonk so hard otherwise
I should probably start consuming some protein tho...
>>2045414I just eat protein after a ride. Gels are unironically pretty good, tho even the cheap ones are annoyingly expensive but if i take a generous handful of gels with me, im not bonking ever anymore
>>2045405just for you I'm putting my next streve in this thread

Fuck u
>>2045702how are you getting KOMs, all the good segments around me are KOM'd by pro racers
>>2045706its the same here, a lot of them donโt look doable at all but im bagging some. Thereโs a sportive here in about a week so everyone is out training, i hit part of the route today and im kinda mogging everyone ngl
its probably less competitive here than like some area of Spain but we have an iron man and tonnes of races in the summer so im fucking shocking myself by being able to compete
Half the time i am slightly tipsy
>>2045414Or you can just use table sugar + some salt for electrolytes in the summer
>>2045706I simply wait for weather warnings and then use the extra tailwind.
>going PB for route to work
>get stuck almost 2 minutes on a left turn
>>2045775Carniggers.. either trying to kill you because they are impatient or slowing you the fuck down
>>2045821well I am trying to turn left on a corner that is right off the highway leading to an industrial zone and there is significant traffic (semis) to the zone which I ride by and work in, so its not their fault
and honestly, I havent faced that much anti cycling faggots, I constantly get lorries slowing down a bit and letting me take a corner instead of them overtaking me in a corner. people seeing me trying to merge and just letting me position myself and giving me enough space as if I am a car
but I get the feeling that because its my commute I meet a lot of the same people and I am a nice cyclist, when I see a lorry or a bigger vehicle behind me and infront of me about to pass eachother and me, I jump off the road into the gravel, and I know some of the drivers of the semis that pass me, they honk at me and I wave at them its cute
but I mostly ride out of town, in the city I do get some mean looks from cagies when they realize that i am faster than them in traffic
>>2045906Most people are fine here too, lot of cycling going on around here so most drivers get it but youโll get some fag come here on holiday and try drive like a faggot
Shit its not even about bicycles man plenty of niggas walking along country lanes, horses, whatever. Anyone with experience driving here just plays it smart so they dont whip round a corner and rear end a tractor. Only the tourists you gotta worry about

Still felt strong on the bike
Made a friend instead. Good ride.
Did a comfy early morning ride cause I couldn't sleep anymore. I actually get the gravel meme now. Riding is much nicer without cages around you.
>>2046241>Riding is much nicer without cages around you.yes thats why grรฆvel is king
>>2046241why ur hoods pointing up
>>2046246It's fixed gear so I brake by putting back pressure on the pedals. Which puts forward pressure on the hands.
Higher hoods are better to push against.
Are 32's wide enough for gravel?
>>2046251are you 50kg?
im 100 and I run knobby 45s
>>2046251It's very possible to ride typical gravel or forest paths on 32s. It's the standard width for Cyclocross.
Hell, I've done it on 28s and even 23s for years.
But it's not ideal. IMO something around 42 is perfect for hard packed gravel, and if you have a lot of mud or deep sand, the wider the better.

>>2046326Unfortunately you pay the Cinelli tax for it, and it's pretty easily scratched.
But it gives me joy every time I look at it.
>>2046300Lovely. What do you carry in the bag?
Heyy fags on my way to pride. I love my bike but the frame is obviously too big for me so I wanna get some drops for a slightly more aggressive stance.
>>2046461>the frame is obviously too big for me so I wanna get some dropsThat's fully retarded and will achieve exactly the opposite of what you want.
The issue with too big frames is length and you want to add more.
>>2046461What's that thing between your rear axle nuts and dropout?
>>2046468Chain tension thingy to keep the rear wheel in alignment.
>>2046466The length is fine and the configuration I have now is okay it's just I'd rather sit slightly higher than the bars when I feel like it.
>>2046461How short do you have to be to have the saddle that low? That frame's what, 56cm?
>>2046579I forgot the exact length desu, but I'm 5'8" and if I stand with my feet planted the top tube is jammed in my crotch. With the seat all the way down it's the perfect length for my feet to connect with the pedels. Obviously it's not ideal for me to have the seat this low compared to the bars, but how I have it it's at least comfy to ride. I plan on getting a huge frame bag and two bottle cages to take advantage of all the extra space along with some drop bars (:
>have nothing to do on beautiful weekend so i decide to bike to the lake park on the other side of town
>see no one alone there
>everyone having barcecues in groups, fishing together, hiking together, everyone with friends or family
>im just the lone autist biker biking around the paved paths calling out to pairs and groups of people so that i can pass them while they are busy talking and laughing with each other
another daily ride ruined by being confronted with how alone i am. cant even enjoy riding a fucking bike
>>2046595Dangerous mindset to carry around all day anon it can seriously ruin your life. I got out of a bad relationship and spent years alone afterwards. Spending all day alone just bitter as fuck I could see myself in real time turning into a miserable old asshole. Somehow you have to find ways to truly actually enjoy being by yourself. Listening to music on my bike, writing poetry and lots of self reflecting helped a lot. Somehow weirdly the more positively you view being alone makes you more attractive to others which can ofc lead to not being alone anymore. Don't let yourself turn into a miserable old fuck become someone you'd want to be around.
>>2046595You're not special anon, solo biking isn't that weird, don't let it ruin your day, christ, most people didn't notice you or assumed you had somewhere to be, or they just didn't give a fuck
>>2046597Yeah it's hard to think any different tho when you're depressed and lonely. I've been there. When you don't have anyone it feels like everywhere you go the world is taunting you with couples. Later on you realized it's just your mind playing tricks on you making you think crazy shit like that. Everyone is too worried about their own life to even notice you 99% of the time when you're in public.

>>2046604i am new and havent really cared but ill remove it if you want
>>2046609Just giving you the business you can leave it alone if you like it, it's just one of those things people do. It gets all yellowed and brittle and doesn't rly do much anyways so most people just cut them off. It's a real clean nice bike.
>>2046521an aluminum Miyata?

>>2046604dork disks are maximum comfy

>>2046940I just think they look bad
>>2046989they definitely look bad after they get old and turn brown and yellow. even new they're not all that cool, but at least they're mostly invisible. the metal ones look cool but they look out of place unless it's a cruiser or vintage roadster
OP here trying out a rental version of my bike without any upgrades
My wheels and bars were so fucking worth it holy shit feels slow as fuck its so noticeable
and the bars are just not comfy the carbon gives such better ride feel
still fun tho
but yeah damn carbon wheels, not a meme
>>2047068Even bars? What bars are those anyway?
I just got some alloy bars to replace my alloy bars and now I'm getting fomo
>>2047078On my bike i got some aero fully integrated bars cos they look sick, i only ride one bike so im very used to how my setup is now, definitely can tell thereโs some kind of compliance and flex in the carbon after feeling this bike with stock setup. sounds like shit people say when they want you to spend hundreds of euros on carbon bars but I donโt think im imagining it my bike feels so much nicer and they are the same model
My shit shifts better and stops better and everything and they took an hour of supposed maintenance before letting me take it so I feel kinda smug rn not gon lie
>>2047084Yeah I can see you have an integrated cockpit, I was asking which one. I'm not looking for a link, just some general information on what you got and how you arrived at that particular cockpit
You have mech shifting?
>>2047115Bontrager Aeolus RSL VR-C bars
Yeah mech shifting
>>2047122>$750jesus. I think I'll just buy nicer wheels for my second bike instead
>>2047123i got them for like 300 otherwise yeah thats too fuckin expensive, didnโt really trust china bars but i hear lots of them are totally fine. I have a $40 chinese carbon seatpost and its fine (for now) but yeah fuck i just didnโt wanna cheap out on the bars it feels wrong
Do I have autism or something I cannot figure this out. Okay there is a slow cyclist in front of me that I'm going to pass. If I shout on your left or ring a bell or make a noise they spaz out and act unpredictably due to being suprised. If I speed past them they are surprised and spaz out and act unpredictably. Is the impetus on them to be aware of their surroundings? Or should I somehow be even more polite even quicker? I got bitched at by some boomer for idek what surprising him I guess..
>>2045380 (OP)>haven't sat on a bike in literally 8 years>got a 10 year old piece of space age carbon fiber for free>fuck it>24 mi (38km) in 2h this morningMy god. Do I get used to this? I had to walk for ~20 minutes because my ass felt like it was beaten by a gorilla with a 2x4. My legs weren't even tired, I just literally could not keep sitting on the bike. I'm seriously considering wearing two pairs of shorts next time because just one wasn't enough for my Hank Hill-esque ass.
The lake was pretty though.
>>2047149Impetus is on them, but that doesn't absolve you if you force a situation that would require them to have good bike handling skills and situational awareness. First of all if you give them an audible warning, it needs to actually work as a warning, don't do it where you're already overlapping wheels, give them a few seconds to process it before getting close, so if they sperg out they don't instantly crash into you. Second, don't fixate on the guy you're passing, if you're approaching a blind corner or if there's fast moving heavy traffic or the road surface is worse than average for your area, then hang back a bit before passing.
But at the end of the day some people are just going to bitch, particularly older people, and you need to not let it get to you. Consider that older people have slower reflexes, worse hearing, and may have good reason to be prickly about younger cyclists passing them at what feels like uncomfortable distances and speeds. Be glad they rode a bike and are not using a 7000 steel box to deal with their insecurities.
>>2047152Do you mean just the chafing and the ass sensitivity and not your glute muscles being sore from exertion?
The latter, yes you'll get used to it. 2 hours on a bike out of 8 years of nothing is going to result in a little bit of saddle soreness but emphasis on *a little*. More likely your saddle is in the wrong position for you, the bar position may have something to do with it. Assuming the frame itself is within a suitable size range.
Road bikes are very comfortable for distance, but only if they're set up right for the user. They are not forgiving if they are not set up right, and that's probably what you're experiencing.
>>2047155>chafing>sore from exertionNo, I'm totally fine in both of those regards. It's like a pressure soreness that feels bruised. Feels like I fell on my ass or got hit with a metal pole right below the buttocks.
>saddle positionThat might be it. It's concentrated under what I think is my ischium/lower pubis. I was probably out of place on the saddle and that led to it not supporting me well. I'll watch some videos on saddle adjustment before going to bother the guys at the local bike shop.
Thanks for the help and nice dubs anon.
>>2047152level your saddle
the rest is your ass getting tender from riding, the more you ride the comfier it will get
bike saddles have a difficult job of providing support while allowing your legs to move, its normal for it to be uncomfortable at first
make sure the bike is your size, the handlebars seem to be tilted up a bit?
desu if you only got ass pain from 2 hour of riding after 8 years of not riding you are a god
just took this thing out for a thirty minute stroll around the neighborhood, very comfy
>>2047152as other anons have said, you need to raise your bike saddle, this will also make cycling a more pleasant experience in general because saddle height is actually important for maximizing pedal efficiency and you will feel a huge difference
>>2047149you can't control how other people react or if their feelings get hurt so fuck 'em.
if I can get far enough away to the side of them I just gun it.
but if it's a sketchy squeeze, or children or dogs who just wander around, I slow down and say I'm passing. I'm not a dick, these things can't be helped, it's not anyone's fault.
but if I can pass safely without slowing down, I totally do it every time. idgaf what they think.

I find this with meeting cyclists/peds/even cars coming head on too they take a very long time to decide which way they are going to go to get out of your way its almost always best to go straight towards them and let them pick a side, they dont fucking like it but its way better than you turning to go one side of them and they go the same way for some fucking reason and now you donโt have space to unfuck it

viet bikenoob here. today marks my first strava ride. I'm not sure how accurate this shit is but I think I'm quite pleased with my bike now. I thought it could not go up to 40km/h but I was able to, and I still had 2 heavier gears to go.
I had to stop early tonight though. not wearing padded underwear is a big mistake. my balls so fucking uncofmortable. even though my balls already tiny and I already coomed so hard last night I made sure I jerked it all out.
next time I'll probably go 90 mins but depending on the traffic. I didn't take a picture but even at 9pm the roads I go still so busy and potentially dangerous. on my way home a motorist jerk accelerated so suddenly to juke past me and a taxi he almost killed himself.
I think there's still some room to improve and correct my stance though. I don't feel comfortable wiht my seat (not include da balls achy thing) I think my flat bar is still some centimeters too low. should I flip it and try? or a M-shaped handlebar will help me? I know there's a thing that rise the bar height too but it's last resort for me.
look all im sayin is just give me an op

Hey /drt/ do you ever put your bike on the bus on those racks? My partner and I like to do a 30ish mile ride and catch the bus back home. It's mostly downhill and we like to drink and dick around the city so it's just comfy to relax on the way back home. Sometimes if we're unlucky somebody already has taken up the only two racks and we gotta wait for next bus, but usually it's fine.
Picrel
>Get in. Now.
>>2047474I have used them a few times when it made sense to do so, but usually it's faster for me to just ride places than to catch the bus. I do like to put my bike on the train and go long distances fast and then ride the rest of the way, which I've done a lot more, but I don't do it often.
for pleasure rides I just do them all bike.

holy fuck rider weight really affects climbing doesnt it?
and why didnt he ride behind me, the headwind was ridiculous
get foot camps sometimes on the bike and also getting a lot of cramping when I get home and lay down. moar electolytes?
Gf and I smoked some lycra nerd on our ratbikes yesterday for literally no reason. It was fun. We did it on the shitty bike path too next to the road launching ourselves over the cracks and bumps and curb ramps. We saw him coming up behind us in the street and I just knew when she saw him she was going to take off like crazy. It was funny taking a super aggressive aero stance on the downhill with our bags and stuff attached rattling around. It was a good ride.
>>2047547congrats, you won a race against someone who didn't race you.
>>2047532If it's just one foot cramping then I'd guess the problem is coming from strain/overuse, so I'd look at your fit and footwear before anything else.

Climbed my tallest mountain yet yesterday after doing a 100+ mile bikepacking ride the prior day, next stop Mt Washington.
Just kidding on that last part, I would die. But it is a long term ambition.
Rode again because it was pretty out and it doesn't hurt anymore. The headwind on the way back home sucked, but makes me think I should buy a sailboat.
>>2047155>>2047188>>2047201Thanks again for the advice. I was literally unable to sit on the bike until yesterday, so I couldn't ride or try adjustments. Fiddled with it yesterday and ended up lowering the saddle and giving it just a hint of downward angle. The difference is night and day. Pretty sure I could also use a shorter stem, but that'll have to wait.
>>2047827wtf is it? a sheep?
>>2046970Just starting out. I've since bumped up the average speed to 17km/h.

did my weekly shopping on the bike as usual. before the grocery I hit up the thrift store, copped a few shirts and went to the checkout. some previous customer had left this on the counter, so obviously I had to cop.

Currently waiting on parts for my gravel-y conversion. Bars need to come up way higher, lighter wheels, brifters, maybe new cranks and different gearing.
>>2048913>. Bars need to come up way higheryeah, you bought the wrong size frame but if you can get a stem tall enough then it should work out. I have a build like that but only because it's hard to find old frames bigger than 63cm and I'm tall. your frame is small but you need average size, which is the most abundant. but if you're married to that frame, a tall stem can work.

>>2048932Yeah I know, I've been working around that little issue since I've bought it, I like it too much. Maybe if I ever stumble upon a bigger frame in great condition I'll switch.

>>2049049it's 20" wheels like most old 1980's and earlier folders are.
on the out journey I was mostly on speed #3 and slight downhill with wind at my back, so I was moving at a good clip, maybe 10-15mph.
return was slight uphill and going into the wind and halfway I switched down to #2 speed... so much slower.
>>2049084Get new bibs. My new bibs arrived this week and they are incredible, it's the same brand I have always worn but all of my existing pairs are like 200+ wash cycles already, didn't realize how the chamois breaks down over time, I feel like I could ride for multiple 12 hour days in these
>ride to store for a drink

>>2049017What are those pedals and how wide are they?
>>2049017I mean it's a dope build, of course.
but what bothers me is on a blue frame, you chose red tape, brown bags, green with orange bottles, and whatever the seat cover is. the groupset, stem, and post are nice old school silver but you chose black bottle cages and basket.
I'm sorry but it's a total trainwreck.
a nice build deserves at least *some* level of visual coordination. the bags do match the sidewalls, so you could get some light brown (cork would look cool) tape and blue plastic or silver steel bottles and that would easily take care of the majority of it.
or something.
obviously, I'm autistic about this stuff. I'm the type that if all I can get is black components, I'll scrape the black finish off and polish it to shiny silver but I don't really recommend doing that unless you have my level of autism.
a couple simple changes would work wonders imo. but you really seem to have functionally done everything right.
>>2049087looks like MKS's. that style is generally called beartrap.
>>2049096maybe there is a color theme and you just don't like it.
>>2049100I mean, that's valid but then why the dull brown seat and bags and the black cages and basket? it looks random instead of intentional.
good looking out on the Benneton throwback, though, nice
I was about to go for a ride but I noticed the RD was shifting all gummy and fucked up with no obvious indexing issues, last time this happened the cable snapped on me mid-ride, so rather than go out for a new cable and spend the whole afternoon wrenching, I dropped it at the LBS. Turned out the shifter just needed oil. Great, how much do I owe you.
But then the bike shop goon emptied an entire bottle of oil onto my pristine waxed chain which not only greased it the fuck up but also dissolved a ton of wax and spattered it all over every single gear where it then dried out and hardened. I swear to god he did it on purpose because he thought my bike was snobby even though it's 11 speed and not even Di2, probably some form of passive-aggressive revenge about the gentrifiers or something.
So this triggered the fuck out of my 'tism and I immediately went home and took off the cassette and spent 2 hours trying to get the impossible to remove globs of dark grey wax residue out of the shift ramps and between the teeth, not to mention de-greasing the previously mirror-clean cassette spider, thus defeating the entire purpose of going to the shop which was to spend the day riding and not fucking around with home bike surgery.
Every time I take my bike in to a LBS to "save time" it ends up like this, then I forget for a few years how SHIT they all are, then I make the mistake again and I remember.
So I just ordered $200 worth of additional bike wrench crap I really didn't want cluttering up my closet, but this cannot happen again, next time I'll have everything I need in advance. Go ahead and call me a hypocrite retard for not knowing how to oil a brifter, I'm still going to rant about it.
>>2049137yeah fuck it i donโt trust the bike shop they are completely retarded usually i think my local one is actually fine but like i have already trained myself to never ever go so it is what it is
>>2049142There's one near me that's actually got the most unbelievably good mechanic but it's only open Tuesday through Thursday from 11:45 am to 4:15 pm and closed from 12 to 3 for lunch because it's just a pair of former investment bankers from Yurop who retired at 35 and they run it as a hobby, I don't think they even make any money they just chill out all day and tinker with ultra-expensive bikes in a pristine workshop that looks cleaner than an operating room at a hospital and the local bike bums go there to hang out and watch the maestro fixing things, every time I've left my bike there it's come out better than factory but going there requires long term planning skills that I lack so I just wait for something to be on the verge of catastrophic failure and end up doing something regrettable because I need to ride or I will spiral into an even worse mental state than the default.
>>2049064>All this cardio but my heart still brokenedI was in the same place bro. But honestly the embarrassment is the problem more now since this all took place at work (you canโt imagine how messy this situation is). At least it's given me the urge to ride hard now and ride even more- as if I could somehow outpace the cringe. However my inability to eat proper also as a result has tanked my power a bit. At least hills are easier with the sudden weight-loss, maybe I can make that loss more than temporary and continue it. Climbing has always called to me but as a former Clydesdale Iโve never been great at it.
>>2049085I got a deal on some Rapha bibs at the beginning of the season and they were quite good at first but when I did my first century this year I found them lacking. I think part of that might be buying the cheaper core line, the other part being needing a better saddle for such long days. Iโm on a SMP VT30C since then and I find these bibs a bit big now actually. I think I went on the wrong side of my borderline size when purchasing- next pair I might stick with Rapha but go up the range and go smaller naturally.
>>2049155Im just in my manwhoring era its pretty good im completely over that one ex now i just catch feelings for fwbs but its kinda fun. Its pretty enjoyable actually. Fuck im glad im past the two years of actual depression after that 6year serious ex

>>2045446Very late response but if you mean overreaching in the sense of pushing your training to the limits its not a bad thing at all regardless of sport or athletic pursuit. Any excess fatigue you cause is just temporary, consistent base mileage is great for most weeks of the year but you got to also push yourself to really get to the next level if performance improvement is a goal. The upside is if ever get to the level you're happy to settle at its not as hard to maintain unless you arrive at a very elite level of performance
