you should always take a little carbohydrates before your rides even if you're trying to lose weight. exercising on a deficit and no fuel to burn is going to throw off your sense of satiety and you will likely massively overeat at the next opportunity, it sounds counterintuitive but you sometimes have to eat "more" to actually eat less

you don't have to eat a whole pint of ice cream but at least drink a juice or something. if cost is an issue you can get carb powder and protein powder at a fitness type store

its ~55 mins 17.5km to work, and I drink somewhere between 200 to half a liter of isotonic drink with carbs with it
and on the way back I take a detour sometimes, so it goes to 40km a day, but this heat...

well I am trying to turn left on a corner that is right off the highway leading to an industrial zone and there is significant traffic (semis) to the zone which I ride by and work in, so its not their fault
and honestly, I havent faced that much anti cycling faggots, I constantly get lorries slowing down a bit and letting me take a corner instead of them overtaking me in a corner. people seeing me trying to merge and just letting me position myself and giving me enough space as if I am a car
but I get the feeling that because its my commute I meet a lot of the same people and I am a nice cyclist, when I see a lorry or a bigger vehicle behind me and infront of me about to pass eachother and me, I jump off the road into the gravel, and I know some of the drivers of the semis that pass me, they honk at me and I wave at them its cute
but I mostly ride out of town, in the city I do get some mean looks from cagies when they realize that i am faster than them in traffic

It's very possible to ride typical gravel or forest paths on 32s. It's the standard width for Cyclocross.
Hell, I've done it on 28s and even 23s for years.
But it's not ideal. IMO something around 42 is perfect for hard packed gravel, and if you have a lot of mud or deep sand, the wider the better.

I forgot the exact length desu, but I'm 5'8" and if I stand with my feet planted the top tube is jammed in my crotch. With the seat all the way down it's the perfect length for my feet to connect with the pedels. Obviously it's not ideal for me to have the seat this low compared to the bars, but how I have it it's at least comfy to ride. I plan on getting a huge frame bag and two bottle cages to take advantage of all the extra space along with some drop bars (:

Dangerous mindset to carry around all day anon it can seriously ruin your life. I got out of a bad relationship and spent years alone afterwards. Spending all day alone just bitter as fuck I could see myself in real time turning into a miserable old asshole. Somehow you have to find ways to truly actually enjoy being by yourself. Listening to music on my bike, writing poetry and lots of self reflecting helped a lot. Somehow weirdly the more positively you view being alone makes you more attractive to others which can ofc lead to not being alone anymore. Don't let yourself turn into a miserable old fuck become someone you'd want to be around.

Do I have autism or something I cannot figure this out. Okay there is a slow cyclist in front of me that I'm going to pass. If I shout on your left or ring a bell or make a noise they spaz out and act unpredictably due to being suprised. If I speed past them they are surprised and spaz out and act unpredictably. Is the impetus on them to be aware of their surroundings? Or should I somehow be even more polite even quicker? I got bitched at by some boomer for idek what surprising him I guess..

Impetus is on them, but that doesn't absolve you if you force a situation that would require them to have good bike handling skills and situational awareness. First of all if you give them an audible warning, it needs to actually work as a warning, don't do it where you're already overlapping wheels, give them a few seconds to process it before getting close, so if they sperg out they don't instantly crash into you. Second, don't fixate on the guy you're passing, if you're approaching a blind corner or if there's fast moving heavy traffic or the road surface is worse than average for your area, then hang back a bit before passing.

But at the end of the day some people are just going to bitch, particularly older people, and you need to not let it get to you. Consider that older people have slower reflexes, worse hearing, and may have good reason to be prickly about younger cyclists passing them at what feels like uncomfortable distances and speeds. Be glad they rode a bike and are not using a 7000 steel box to deal with their insecurities.

Do you mean just the chafing and the ass sensitivity and not your glute muscles being sore from exertion?

The latter, yes you'll get used to it. 2 hours on a bike out of 8 years of nothing is going to result in a little bit of saddle soreness but emphasis on *a little*. More likely your saddle is in the wrong position for you, the bar position may have something to do with it. Assuming the frame itself is within a suitable size range.

Road bikes are very comfortable for distance, but only if they're set up right for the user. They are not forgiving if they are not set up right, and that's probably what you're experiencing.

>chafing
>sore from exertion
No, I'm totally fine in both of those regards. It's like a pressure soreness that feels bruised. Feels like I fell on my ass or got hit with a metal pole right below the buttocks.

>saddle position
That might be it. It's concentrated under what I think is my ischium/lower pubis. I was probably out of place on the saddle and that led to it not supporting me well. I'll watch some videos on saddle adjustment before going to bother the guys at the local bike shop.

Thanks for the help and nice dubs anon.

level your saddle

the rest is your ass getting tender from riding, the more you ride the comfier it will get
bike saddles have a difficult job of providing support while allowing your legs to move, its normal for it to be uncomfortable at first

make sure the bike is your size, the handlebars seem to be tilted up a bit?
desu if you only got ass pain from 2 hour of riding after 8 years of not riding you are a god

you can't control how other people react or if their feelings get hurt so fuck 'em.
if I can get far enough away to the side of them I just gun it.
but if it's a sketchy squeeze, or children or dogs who just wander around, I slow down and say I'm passing. I'm not a dick, these things can't be helped, it's not anyone's fault.
but if I can pass safely without slowing down, I totally do it every time. idgaf what they think.

I find this with meeting cyclists/peds/even cars coming head on too they take a very long time to decide which way they are going to go to get out of your way its almost always best to go straight towards them and let them pick a side, they dont fucking like it but its way better than you turning to go one side of them and they go the same way for some fucking reason and now you don’t have space to unfuck it
Have had to plow right down the centre of a few big groups on these past couple city rides but shit it honestly feels like the safest thing i can do short of just slowing to crawling pace and idontfuckingwannadothat

viet bikenoob here. today marks my first strava ride. I'm not sure how accurate this shit is but I think I'm quite pleased with my bike now. I thought it could not go up to 40km/h but I was able to, and I still had 2 heavier gears to go.

I had to stop early tonight though. not wearing padded underwear is a big mistake. my balls so fucking uncofmortable. even though my balls already tiny and I already coomed so hard last night I made sure I jerked it all out.

next time I'll probably go 90 mins but depending on the traffic. I didn't take a picture but even at 9pm the roads I go still so busy and potentially dangerous. on my way home a motorist jerk accelerated so suddenly to juke past me and a taxi he almost killed himself.

I think there's still some room to improve and correct my stance though. I don't feel comfortable wiht my seat (not include da balls achy thing) I think my flat bar is still some centimeters too low. should I flip it and try? or a M-shaped handlebar will help me? I know there's a thing that rise the bar height too but it's last resort for me.

It's mostly downhill and we like to drink and dick around the city so it's just comfy to relax on the way back home. Sometimes if we're unlucky somebody already has taken up the only two racks and we gotta wait for next bus, but usually it's fine.

yeah, you bought the wrong size frame but if you can get a stem tall enough then it should work out. I have a build like that but only because it's hard to find old frames bigger than 63cm and I'm tall. your frame is small but you need average size, which is the most abundant. but if you're married to that frame, a tall stem can work.

I mean it's a dope build, of course.

but what bothers me is on a blue frame, you chose red tape, brown bags, green with orange bottles, and whatever the seat cover is. the groupset, stem, and post are nice old school silver but you chose black bottle cages and basket.
I'm sorry but it's a total trainwreck.
a nice build deserves at least *some* level of visual coordination. the bags do match the sidewalls, so you could get some light brown (cork would look cool) tape and blue plastic or silver steel bottles and that would easily take care of the majority of it.
or something.

obviously, I'm autistic about this stuff. I'm the type that if all I can get is black components, I'll scrape the black finish off and polish it to shiny silver but I don't really recommend doing that unless you have my level of autism.
a couple simple changes would work wonders imo. but you really seem to have functionally done everything right.

I was about to go for a ride but I noticed the RD was shifting all gummy and fucked up with no obvious indexing issues, last time this happened the cable snapped on me mid-ride, so rather than go out for a new cable and spend the whole afternoon wrenching, I dropped it at the LBS. Turned out the shifter just needed oil. Great, how much do I owe you.

But then the bike shop goon emptied an entire bottle of oil onto my pristine waxed chain which not only greased it the fuck up but also dissolved a ton of wax and spattered it all over every single gear where it then dried out and hardened. I swear to god he did it on purpose because he thought my bike was snobby even though it's 11 speed and not even Di2, probably some form of passive-aggressive revenge about the gentrifiers or something.

So this triggered the fuck out of my 'tism and I immediately went home and took off the cassette and spent 2 hours trying to get the impossible to remove globs of dark grey wax residue out of the shift ramps and between the teeth, not to mention de-greasing the previously mirror-clean cassette spider, thus defeating the entire purpose of going to the shop which was to spend the day riding and not fucking around with home bike surgery.

Every time I take my bike in to a LBS to "save time" it ends up like this, then I forget for a few years how SHIT they all are, then I make the mistake again and I remember.

So I just ordered $200 worth of additional bike wrench crap I really didn't want cluttering up my closet, but this cannot happen again, next time I'll have everything I need in advance. Go ahead and call me a hypocrite retard for not knowing how to oil a brifter, I'm still going to rant about it.

There's one near me that's actually got the most unbelievably good mechanic but it's only open Tuesday through Thursday from 11:45 am to 4:15 pm and closed from 12 to 3 for lunch because it's just a pair of former investment bankers from Yurop who retired at 35 and they run it as a hobby, I don't think they even make any money they just chill out all day and tinker with ultra-expensive bikes in a pristine workshop that looks cleaner than an operating room at a hospital and the local bike bums go there to hang out and watch the maestro fixing things, every time I've left my bike there it's come out better than factory but going there requires long term planning skills that I lack so I just wait for something to be on the verge of catastrophic failure and end up doing something regrettable because I need to ride or I will spiral into an even worse mental state than the default.

I was in the same place bro. But honestly the embarrassment is the problem more now since this all took place at work (you can’t imagine how messy this situation is). At least it's given me the urge to ride hard now and ride even more- as if I could somehow outpace the cringe. However my inability to eat proper also as a result has tanked my power a bit. At least hills are easier with the sudden weight-loss, maybe I can make that loss more than temporary and continue it. Climbing has always called to me but as a former Clydesdale I’ve never been great at it.

I got a deal on some Rapha bibs at the beginning of the season and they were quite good at first but when I did my first century this year I found them lacking. I think part of that might be buying the cheaper core line, the other part being needing a better saddle for such long days. I’m on a SMP VT30C since then and I find these bibs a bit big now actually. I think I went on the wrong side of my borderline size when purchasing- next pair I might stick with Rapha but go up the range and go smaller naturally.

Very late response but if you mean overreaching in the sense of pushing your training to the limits its not a bad thing at all regardless of sport or athletic pursuit. Any excess fatigue you cause is just temporary, consistent base mileage is great for most weeks of the year but you got to also push yourself to really get to the next level if performance improvement is a goal. The upside is if ever get to the level you're happy to settle at its not as hard to maintain unless you arrive at a very elite level of performance

Idk if this is the right place to ask, but I need recommendations for a pannier+backpack.
>Be me, have become lardass lately
>Want to change that again
>Live in germany, so biking everywhere is actually viable
>Ditch car, but carry lots of shit in my backpack now (up to 20kg / ~45lbs on a bad day)
>Few days in, back hurts so much I cannot walk properly anymore
>Have to take mini-steps which looks like I shat my pants and am doing a walk of shame to the toilet
I've looked far and wide because I don't want a backpack that looks like a fucking shipping container (looking at you ortlieb, what the fuck are those soulless designs). I've gotten kind of desperate (cannot find a bag that is fpas free and looks good) and now I'm looking at this one from eastpak: https://www.eastpak.com/de-de/rucksacke-c120/up-roll-bike-pEK-0A5BJW-4Y8-OS--1-.html
But there's no reviews for it anywhere but one on amazon where the parents of some brat are tearing the bag a second one because it came loose during the ride, it got caught up in the spokes of the rear tire, fucked up the ipad inside and even ripped apart the fucking seatstay: https://www.amazon.de/dp/B09W2JFJPY#averageCustomerReviewsAnchor
Made me reconsider because it's not clear if the brat just failed to properly secure the bag or if it is an actual hazard.

TL;DR:
>Want backpack that can be hung on the rearmount rack
>Must not look like a retard when wearing it on my back, something "business casual"
>Should be free of pfas or other gay chemicals

A bag can either be a good backpack or a good pannier, not both. First of all, why the fuck are you carrying around 20kg all day? That's twice the weight I carry on a weeks-long hiking trip when I sleep in a tent.
Secondly, just get panniers. They're the standard for a reason. You can carry them like shopping bags, wear one like a messenger bag with a strap, or put a small to medium size backpack inside one and take it out when you're off the bike.
If you actually do need to transport 20 fucking kg on and off the bike daily, get a bike trailer, a transport box and a foldable hand truck. Carrying that on your back will fuck you up long term.
Anonymous No.2052032

Also, backpacks aren't ever business casual. And wearing a backpack that fits 20kg in a city will always make you look like a retard, a bum, or worse, a backpacker.

What do you mean? It inadvertently ended up rather similar to what the frame was from originally, minus the electricity. That seat tube looks aero but it's two 18650s wide, I wanted to turn it into storage for something but so far keep putting it off.
There is a hole in the seatpost right under the seat's nose and the chain that's wrapped around the top tube usually gets shoved there, with only the lock poking out, but it was falling out offroad so I wrapped it instead. The only other thing that I feel might be objectionable is the bell, but I just love me a good bell.
