Ya I did it for 6 months or so. We could have chosen a smaller dog I guess. But it’s super gay. You always have to walk them and take care of their needs.
You can’t really leave them alone for extended periods.

He ate my steering wheel and my mattress. I’m glad I don’t take him anymore.
He just stays at home and gives me these looks when I’m home now.

I'd have a cat if I wasnt allergic but having a pet in this small of a space seems like way more of a hassle than the enjoyment you'd get out of it. Not to mention those who aren't responsible enough to have a pet in the first place, i watched a guy let his pitbull shit in the grass and when I asked him if he was gonna pick that up and he said no I said he better not let me see where hes parking for the night, and wouldnt ya know it he passed 3 really easy spots and left. Those guys are numerous and will let their mutts attack your pets and you so keep your "tire checker" (niggerbeater) close at hand if you frequent the grassy areas

Once all the sand niggers and dune coons fuck off it might get better. My advice, get into something pajeets, illegals and non-Whites can't do. Not a lot of those people in flatbed right now.

I don’t know you and ur family situation.
TMC is the gold standard for entry level OTR flatbed. Melton is also very good.
I’m too jaded and over-it-all too indulge in a strict regimented flatbed division. But if you can get your experience it will be worth it. If you run a milly at melton they’ll let you custom order a truck.

That's temporary sheathing over the window openings. I'm guessing EF isn't putting them in immediately so the contractor slapped some sheathing over the openings to keep the weather out and support the building wrap.

What kind of windows are you ordering, EF? That wall of glass reminds me of custom homes from the '80s.

Did truckers have a good image 20 or 30 years ago? Pretty sure everyone saw you guys as toothless rednecks with no honor.

Anyway most of the Russians Indians and Africans that I’ve encountered have been helpful and generous to a rookie like me. What is your major malfunction?

I would consider it to be perfectly average (when fresh), it wont blow you away and it wont give you dysentery. Their pizza tastes the best after you've not had a hot meal for a couple days or if it's free, I'd check their app for deals too cause theres some good ones on there you just have to look

Pilot’s gourmet hot lamp pizza is ok just dont eat it if you’re not shutting down for the night because there is a 50/50 chance you will get the runs about 30 minutes after eating it.

It’s also a bit too pricey for my company driver financially burdened bank account. If you’re one of the blessed few that has a microwave or room for a microwave in their truck, i would opt for the Home Cooked variety

I’ve been off the road for a week, getting the truck repaired. Apparently, my fleet manager was sitting on getting the appointment scheduled and once I was able to get a covering manager schedule it, the truck was fixed in a couple of days.
It was just wear and tear shit, like the washer fluid reservoir that needed to be ordered. I just didn’t want to risk getting a DOT violation because some relatively insignificant part was loose because a piece of plastic had broken off.

If I'm going to be flat broke and have no money which means no fun cars and no money to enjoy said cars I may as well have healthcare and move to a majority white country too far north for nigs and sand people. I don't see things improving in the States any time soon.

Somehow I got a job offer as a diesel tech at Waste Management doing PMs and such. I think I might turn it down though because I had another interview with these water plant dudes and I think I have a good shot at a water plant mechanic gig.

Waste Management seemed like corporate hell on a level above Pepsi. Reserved spots for “Female Driver of the Year” and rainbow flags. Also it’s 2nd shift, 3p-1a, and at that rate I might as well be OTR because I’ll see the wife like zero during the week.

Nah I don’t want to do the Waste Management gig really. But if I did, it would be because a year or two of heavy duty mechanic work + Class A is worth more than a regular trucker gig.

Plus maybe I said it in another thread, there’s so many people like “I’m sick of retail, I’m gonna get my CDL” and there’s barely any good local Class A jobs around here. Overnight fuel hauler from the port is like the only one with consistent listings. Everything else is hard labor, shitty pay, or sleeping in a truck.

Meanwhile fucking all of the skilled trades, there are so many job listings for people with a driver’s license and a couple years experience fixing anything. Auto mechanic is meh, but HVAC, every company wants techs for $30-$35+ an hour while the few local Class A jobs are $21-$27 unless you want to break your back. And I’m seeing a ton of like crane operator gigs, heavy machinery operators, plumbing, infrastructure gigs like power + pump technician.

Ok, so my resume is 11yrs Class A driver with safe driver awards every year, and then like 5 years “part time self employed handyman-mechanic”

I applied at 2 of the biggest rental companies driving flatbeds with equipment, for driving gigs and mechanic-tech gigs. One of them gave me a phone and in-person interview for a diesel mechanic job, but never even gave me a phone interview for the driver one.

The other one, I applied for two Class B jobs at different locations. One of them, no reply, phone interview for the second and no further news. But I have a “Pump + Power Tech” phone interview with them Tuesday.

The skilled trades are in way higher demand as the boomers are retiring.

Swift does the dedicated WM routes if it’s not their own trucks I believe.

I talked to a handful of these guys over the past year, especially the last 6mos when I was doing 100% Walmart overnight. The Swift drivers doing WM routes don’t like it much. The WM drivers themselves were mostly content, but their main gripe was they had to wait on lazy Walmart employees to unload the trucks.

Drop + hook GM seemed easier, worst case scenario they had to move a trailer. Meat and Produce guys would get mad waiting 45min for dude to come with a pallet jack. They had far less efficient live unloads compared to other stores. Publix had their live unloads like an F1 pitstop,

I used to not put my cones out when dropping fuel at their depot so guys could get around me, until someone dragged his mirror across the entire length of my tank, and that's just what's happened to me in particular some of my colleagues and walmart employees tell stories that you can do nothing but laugh and shake your head

Kek.

Yea there’s a couple Walmarts around here, especially the Neighborhood Market stores that aren’t the super super easy loading docks that 95% of Walmarts across the country have. And the Swift guys always have a lot of fun at a couple if there’s no room for them to get 100% straight in front of a dock.

Like picrel, it’s like a 45deg blind side back, but it’s 2 docks wide and there’s often a trailer at one door but no tractor so you have a fair amount of space to get the rear of the trailer in the general area of the dock.

Whenever I would turn into this store with a Swift driver or new Walmart guy pulling in ahead of me, I would park my truck right in the corner blocking the road because I knew I had at least 15min to start dropping 4-5 pallets with my liftgate to roll in the other door.

I’m not sure you know what you’re talking about. HVAC tech money is one of the higher trades because it’s a combination of electrical and plumbing with some physics and chemistry.

I got muh EPA and NATE certs as I’m looking through all of this stuff and if you look for “Technician” jobs, so much of it is good HVAC gigs and they can’t find experienced people.

Decent money, pretty hard work.

Around here they run 2 guy shifts and I believe they’re out overnight. Don’t remember what their schedule looks like. They also come from up north quite a bit so they’re probably at a 6hr drive before they get the first delivery done. They work overnight a lot. Running totes down the ramp into gas stations. Only upside is they’re like drop and go everywhere I’ve seen and they don’t have to sit and count stuff.

It’s another gig you do for a couple years and try to get on a fuel truck or something comfy regional.

If they’re trying to run you 36hr shifts overnight or a totally fucked schedule, look at US Foods and Sysco or any of the food-beverage companies. Same hard labor but more reasonable schedule.

Nothing like backing your bobtail into a triangle spot created by two other trucks. It eases the guilt of inconveniencing other truckers looking for a spot in a nearly-full truck stop.

I ran milk for a union distributor and when I had my own dedicated route it was fun fulfilling and paid good enough for me to not be pissy all the time. I cannot say any other company is like it but I saw the same drivers on their own routes routinely so I assume they're at least a little bit similar. The work was physically demanding especially in the summer when it got hot as shit so you wore less only to climb in the reefer and get froze out, but it's nothing an able bodied adult shouldn't be able to do, especially if you have one of those fancy hand trucks that do all the balancing for you.
Only problem really was the union, most of the drivers hated it because it gave the loaders (who weren't subjected to drug tests at all) the same if not more dick swinging power than us and all they'd do is fuck up. The amount of times I'd get to a stop only to find they loaded 1000 cartons of whole milk instead of 1% I couldnt count on two hands but we couldnt do anything about it cause union protected "their right" to hit a weed vape every 10 minutes on the job, so whenever I got somewhere with a fucked up order the receiver (if she was a cunt) would bitch entirely at me and I had to be professional about it, it never had any chance of getting me in trouble but it certainly hits your morale always getting blamed for some addict's fuckup.
And then the union took my route away. I was placed on call and no man should ever run routes like that daily, there were weeks when I would run 7 days, get done at 1 am on sunday then have to clock back in at 11 pm on monday. 14 - 16 hour shifts were common for me given the nature of not knowing where I was going nor individual store policy, it was great for pay but i was always tired and pissy and was the eventual reason I quit that job

Yesterday was a real test of my skills, as a new truck driver of 3 months – I ended up having to do a 180° backing maneuver, behind a strip mall, in order to get out of the parking lot, due to circumstances created by Walmart.
The easy way out of the docking area was fenced off due to construction between the docks and garden center; the alternative easy way out was blocked by parked cars and the space at the very end is too tight for semis to go through.
I’ve managed to make it work without hitting anything by getting out several times to check my space and position relative to the cars and building. One vehicle ended up in the way and while I probably could have backed up and straightened my trailer to get through, in hindsight, I had to hunt down the owner of the vehicle and ask them to move it.

This is shit I ran into multiple times a week driving a 48’-53’ trailer behind these same stores a dozen times a day.

It’s always fun. Curbs were meant to be hopped.

I had one shitty experience at a Walmart like a year ago though. This store, you have to make a U-turn to back into the docks, only one entrance. And there’s room to turn around by the dock when there’s no other trucks. But at 7am, it’s always packed. So normally you can go behind the whole store to the other side and turn around in the far side of the parking lot. Unfortunately, some construction crews had taken over that 1/3 of the lot. My only option was to make a turn where the trailer tires were going to hop the corner of a curb by a foot or two, no big deal.

Unfortunately, at some point in the past, there must have been a street sign on this corner that a supertrucker took out, so they cut the pole off like 2” out of the ground, and because I’m lucky, they had just spread fresh mulch on the islands, covering the 2” of sharp steel..: until my trailer tire went over the top of it… and then the tire on the 2nd axle.

Was kinda funny because the tire blew and sent like 3 bags worth of fresh mulch flying everywhere.

You don't want to do diesel tech at a union shop if you're good at it at all. I had a buddy who was a diesel tech at UPS, doing engine replacements. The rest of the guys would pull an engine in one shift, and replace it the next shift. Buddy used to run his own repair shop, so he'd r&r an engine in a single shift. The union steward told him to get with the program and stop making everyone else look bad before someone jumped him in the parking lot and kicked his head in.
He left that and went to be a mobile diesel mechanic on a pipeline crew. Made a fortune and retired early.

I don’t think it was union. I told them nahh anyway. One holiday off a year, $21/hr to bring $20k worth of tools there and do PMs, 3pm-1am M-F, just give me the divorce papers already.

I got stuck overnight on New Years at Pepsi sitting behind a Walmart in the hood, I don’t want to spend another major holiday working for a shitty corporation that pretends to honor their employees with 15% discounts on rental cars.

>>28490651
That’s the Publix DC literally right down the street from me.

And I wasn’t talking about that, it’s the trailers that leave the DC and go to all of their stores. The Publix trucks call like 5-10min before roll up to the store so at least 2 people from the department are ready with pallet jacks, throw a fit if a vendor is in the dock, and they will have half a trailer pulled off in 10min.

Also on the job update, water plant people are still taking their time but I was on the phone with head mechanic for a bit this morning. Those dudes are straight and it’s a cool technical non-CDL job which is why I want it so bad.

Then I had an interview at 10am this morning for a concrete cutting company. CDL job because driving a dump truck with a trailer with a backhoe or other equipment on it.

I thought the interview was 10:30am, so I rolled up at 10:10am and told dude I don’t even care if he wants to send me away because my dumbass was late.

I talk with him for a bit, go cruise this 8spd dump truck around for awhile which is fun because of course I had to grind the gears around the neighborhood for 5 minutes to feel out a new truck. Then he says he’s willing to train me on running all the construction equipment, he has tons of other applications but likes me, will pay me within like $1 of what I was making at Pepsi even as he trains me (which is awesome), benefits after 90 days, it’s 5min from my house, hours if I want them, and the GM who interviewed me seems like a real good guy.

I got that bitch 16 miles down the road to a truck stop, parked it for the night, called the company back and told them it needs more major shit serviced and likely needs at least one steer tire. I'm seriously considering accidentally running something over that does enough damage to the other one to get a matching pair of new steers. Also getting the cab and bunk cleaned and detailed and submitting the receipt for reimbursement after it's done getting serviced. I had a fun few years at the end. I got promoted from the small stores like 4+ years ago, got the comfy gig on hourly pay delivering to large accounts. Bump a dock or use the liftgate, deliver 2-5+ pallets to the average Walmart, Publix, etc. Deal with cranky receivers and a couple cool ones, scan some stuff in at the stores that required it. That Bulk gig was the one everybody would bust their ass for years to get on because lots of dudes would keep that job until retirement.

Then in early 2024, we finally move to our new warehouse, they combine a bunch of the big and small stores on 40’ trailers with liftgates and they’re going to cut some bulk routes, from 12 down to who knows. But new warehouse is way larger, picking up more area, and we’re supposed to get all of the BJs, Sams Clubs, Costco stores from like Palm Beach Co south, plus Ft Myers and stuff, taking those stores from 3-4 other distro facilities since our new warehouse is big enough to handle those stores.

So we move to new warehouse, 8 bulk routes down from 12, but I keep my job and I’m straight. At this new warehouse, almost all of the management proceeds to do a shit job and they miss all of their projected goals by like 50%. So corporate is like “You guys can’t handle all of those club stores”. Then a fuckwad manager decides to start delivering Walmarts overnight and forces 4 of the 8 of us to work like 7pm or whenever you want to start until it’s done. I asked for severance, faggy HR gayboi said no because they’re not getting rid of my job, just changing hours. So I was out all night, I had no manager awake to call, none of the Walmarts were aware deliveries were coming overnight, let alone knew how to scan stuff in. Lots of stores had noise ordinances and couldn’t take deliveries before 6-7am. It was a shit show.

cunt…

…cunt’d

So finally corporate came in and fired, transferred, or forced early retirement for literally everybody in the office, including the Bulk supervisor guy who actually knew what he was doing, but he was sick of the place since our department that picked up a huge amount of the volume and always got it done had become the redheaded stepchild.

Then they come in and say “we’re getting rid of daytime bulk. The 4 most senior guys (20yrs+) will have to take overnight Walmarts, the other 4 can go to the 40’ mixed trucks stocking coolers at Wawa or take a severance. Me and #2 most senior guy took the package and walked out. #2 guy asked if he could try the overnight for one week to see if his wife could handle it, he was a 30+ year employee a few years from retirement, HR told him to get fucked. My last week there, I worked 58hrs in 4 days. I called out one day for the first time in like 2 years because I had no DOT hours to work 5 days.

And the worst part is I put up with a ton of bullshit because I was one of the best at all the technical stuff and the supervisors were all like “Stick with it, we want you as a supervisor next, this guy is leaving and we’re recommending you” and every single time I interviewed I got passed up for an unqualified cousin-friend who was non-white. I was literally told after an interview “Your interview was great, you’re the most qualified, but office politics”. And the place ran like shit because of the nepotism and racial shit.

The company is super super woke, DEI above all. Upper management is mostly white. I believe white upper management gets bonus points for having brown middle managers.

Picrel. Pepis.

Maybe some of the independent bottlers are ok, but I was corporate.

Also I got a diesel mechanic job offer from Waste Management a week and a half ago and I turned it down because the corporate environment seemed exactly like Pepsi. Sucked because I hit it off with the fleet managers and stuff but I can’t work every holiday anymore when every single person in the office is on vaca with their family.

Job security and benefits are nice. And fwiw, maybe 40% of my tenure there I had good managers who kept the majority of the bullshit in the office and let me do my job. But then at a huge company where you expect stability, you have management trying to get their bonuses, so you’re working 60+ hours a week for 4 months of the year when it’s busy and can barely keep your eyes open, and then the 4 slow months they’re telling you “we don’t need you today, go home” a day or two every week. I had 4 weeks vaca plus 8 personal days my last year there, and I burnt like 160hrs of it on days when I drove over there and didn’t have a route because it wasn’t heavy enough. And that shit was even worse when I was on base pay for small format and a grimey manager was making us work like 50hrs in 4 days, cutting is the 5th day, so you’re getting paid like a 32hr salary for working 50hrs.

They lost nearly all of the contracts with the schools and every single contract south of the Mason Dixon line. I haven't checked if they're still open but when I left the management heavily implied their attempt to acquire a new major contract with one of the large grocery store chains fell through.

Some of us went to truck driving school, just to learn the very basics well enough to pass the CDL test that is taken at the same school. Then, if you’re pre-hired, you will start orientation just to be told what is expected of you, as a driver, and prove to them you can start a tractor with an automatic transmission. After a couple of days, you’re finished with orientation and now have to wait for a trainer, which can take a couple of days or a couple of weeks. Once you’re with your trainer, you’re stuck with them for at least a month and maybe – JUST maybe – your trainer is actually competent enough, and safety-conscious enough, to vocalize instructions, effectively, while you’re driving (some drivers get shitty trainers). While that’s good and all, and you will learn to do new maneuvers, repeatedly, it’s not enough. You’re trained just enough to know how to operate a 40 ton cruise missile safely and some important things you need to know about the trucking world will not be taught until you’re on your own.

It everybody will get this sort of training, and not everybody who has been trained this way will last long as a truck driver. The important thing is utilizing the knowledge you have gained from your training well, and let common sense allow you to figure the other shit that you don’t out, without fucking things up.

A) Leave more room for braking gently coming to a stop like every other empty 18 wheeler does.
B)Tractor brakes could be maladjusted and making the trailer take ALL of the braking you 're needing. Yes the trailer should be doing more of the work but not all of it.

You probably have something wrong with the diff then, or need to learn how to lock it.

I had an issue like that in my old T800, it got really bad when one of the airbags was leaking a little too. In certain loading docks the first drive axle would just spin and I almost got stuck once. I had to play games like deflate the tractor suspension, slide the trailer tandems, slide the fifth wheel, let the air pressure get low, and it was definitely messed up diff compounded by bad airbags.

Do it.

So one of the things that helped me is I got self-taught in a lot of handyman and mechanic stuff. Research, learn, get your hands on some tools, and go do little side jobs for people on the weekends. Take on 2 afternoon jobs a month and eventually you can put “Handyman” on the resume like I did, and then go sperg out in interviews how you just got done doing a faulty PCV valve on a Toyota and an APP sensor on a Honda that was throwing the car into limp mode, and then chased down a loose neutral in a lady’s apartment after she had flickering lights, plus installing a couple ceiling fans on her balcony.

Make sure you mention how good a cool glass of Simple Green is on a hot day!

Watch them inside trailer wheels and roll them right around the corner of the parked trailer. That’s not bad, it’s not even blind side.

To straighten the tractor, you just need experience and you will learn where the point is. Depending on truck-trailer combo and where the tandems are set, there’s a certain number of degrees before the trailer is 100% straight where you need to start straightening the tractor out. If the trailer tandems are all the way back, it’s only like 2 degrees. With the tandems forward all the way or a 40ft trailer, maybe more like 5 degrees. If you’re driving some 28” pup trailer, they’re infuriating to back because you need to begin straightening the tractor while the trailer is still like 10deg+ off where you want it. The longer trailers are easier sometimes because they’re less sensitive to movements from the tractor when backing.

So I shut down 8pm 15 minutes away from the receiver how am I supposed to deliver this ON TIME without breaking HOS rules because I’m not going to get a full 10 hour break.

Even if I split sleeper and I go into sleeper 8 hours, drive to the receiver, and then go off duty for 2 hours, I will not get my hours reset, correct?

You will not get a full 11/14 until you do a full 10-hour reset. Sleeper berth splits will only give back the hours you breaked for.

It’s how truckers used to keep themselves warm/cool and entertained in their trucks before autostarts and APUs became common. As far as I know, most of the ones that are still up do not work.

Its very obvious when you do it, bulk is usually 1-4 stores per shift, you get to use a powerjack, you drop product in the fridge get paperwork signed (50/50) and leave.
Stores sucks cause it's never less than 10 stops, you use a hook to sort orders in the trailer (cause the pullers cant be fucked to load the trailer in sequence they just throw shit in there and send it) and a lift gate and hand truck to bring them in, usually they have to be scanned individually by whoever's recieving (and you will be given annoyed sighs and cunty quips if the pullers loaded wrong) if you have a shit job you have to stock the shelves as well.

Yea what other guy said.

Bulk, you might have 2 Sam’s Clubs or Costcos where you might not even have to touch your electic pallet jack. If thet got quick receivers, stay out of the way. Or Costcos, most of them are like “Pull the pallets off the trailer, drop them in the middle of the loading dock, and stay out of the way.

Other grocery stores vary, Walmart does this thing with one barcode per pallet, and you get random audits where you have to scan the stuff on that pallet. If your warehouse is good and you play the game right, maybe it’s an audit on one pallet every 2-3 deliveries. A lot of if depends on how anal the receiver is and if they like you. I’ve watched a cranky old Publix receiver take an hour and a half for 2 easy Budweiser pallets and then knock out my 7 pallets of Pepsi in 15 min because she likes me and trusts me (which carries Gatorade, Starbucks, 75 flavors of Celsius, Dr Pepper, etc).

Small format delivers to the stores and had to merchandise a lot of them. Stocking shelves at Dollar General stores and coolers at 7eleven. Nothing like unloading a trailer in 90deg summer heat and then having to stock a 35deg walk in cooler with 50 cases of bullshit. I caught colds once a month doing that job. Only reason I did it for 7 years was because I was cool with all my customers. If you don’t get consistent routes though, everybody thinks you’re going to mess up their stores and they waste your time and won’t give you paperwork until they walk through the place and check

Walmart Driver here. Im on pace to hit 130k this year. We get a month worth of PTO. after 12+ years, you can get up to 42 days paid time off per year.
All our trucks are governed at 65. You gotta be kidding me you wouldnt take a job that pays this well just because you want to go a little faster. It doesnt fucking matter. Best job Ive ever had. Walmart is basically the only company doing well in this economy. Their revenue keeps hitting record highs every year, and truck drivers are arguably the most essential job they cant replace, and they want it done safely thats why they pay so well.

The pay for any commercial driving job without prior OTR, or any other experience related to the field you’re wanting to work in, is going to be shitty, so it’s up to you to decide if getting a CDL is worth it, knowing you’re probably only going to be taking home $300/week for a year or two.
I have a friend who used to do OTR and then got a demolition job, driving grease and fuel trucks. He was only earning $24/hr. Once he had been working for them for a while and showed how dependable he can be, they bumped him up to a $64,000 salary.
Good luck.

Yes.

You’re either going to have to start like straight truck/dump truck for low money or you will have to do a lot of physical labor to make money.

Pepsi hired me with a CDL and no experience. Had to break my back 50-60 hours a week but it’s $29/hr right now in South Florida which isn’t terrible if your body can handle it.

But then there’s the question “Is it worth getting a CDL”

After 11 years of local, I’m hopefully jumping into a non-CDL skilled trades job. I wish I would’ve gone into the electrical union instead of CDL school at 22 years old. There’s a higher cieling and you’re more valuable for your skills vs a steering wheel holder. There’s some easy CDL jobs but you’re never going to get above like mid-20s, maybe $30 tops an hour

I tried for 4 years now to get an apprenticeship through the IBEW. I cannot get one. It's pure nepotism and there's a 2 year long wait list on apprenticeships, plus they haven't taken apprentices at my local IBEW for 3 of the last 4 years.

The IBEW is the only way to get into electrician trades here. Nobody will give you a shot and even our schools require IBEW apprenticeship proof in order to enroll into the electrician courses. Same goes for plumbing and pipefitters which I don't even want to do.

I tried my local utility company where my wife works for a lineman apprenticeship and was basically laughed at. I've been in the medical field for 10+ years and it looks like I'll be stuck here. Everything else is retail or fast food in this town. I don't mind the medical field but going back to school requires a full time commitment at this point, and I can't afford to take off that much work.

Pop open a new cartridge, put it in my piece of shit 20$ grease gun that broke the first time I used it, hold the cartridge in with my finger and then let the plunger come out a little so it drops a dollop of grease on the fifth wheel. Then do that around the entire skid plate, then use a rag to smear it all around for good coverage.

>300$ a week
I made more than that on training pay with a mega notorious for paying like shit. I would push the valves in on an incline next to a cliff if I ran 2500+ miles in a week and only got a 300$ check for it.

Yes if you have a plan to specialize, I'm 99% sure those crane operators make huge money and (actually) work like 2 hours a week. >>28512741 is generally correct, your first two years are gonna be shitty even if you get lucky into a good job like I did, I made $24.50/h workin for a local milk delivery company using my entire 70 some weeks, then I went OTR with a mega and barely brought home $800/w so afaik if you're not o/o you're getting fucked OTR.
>>28512958
This is advice from someone who didnt specialize, and while it is true you should not take it as a deciding factor if you're not going to be a deliveryman.

There is that same nepotism and selfishness in the drivers unions, however you are unlikely to be gatekept from employment, it will just be the worst position until someone joins after you or quits above you but I have said and will say again your first year or two WILL suck no matter whether you're trades or CDL

There isn't a single job in the world that cant be deflated down to "baseball is just hit ball with a stick" tier. It's known as the "no true scotsman" fallacy and while you might rage bait ethan, the best you're gonna get out of me is your 13 cents and a fuck off

gay take
surgeon, engineer, medical field, trades, astronaut, etc
real jobs require skill. driving doesn't

it's even less involved than even something easy like fast food worker. delude yourself and pretend it's not if you must

no idea who ethan is either btw

The gatekeeping for trades became ridiculous. It's all boomers working past or towards retirement refusing to quit, and then telling everyone they know to get a trade job. Learn a trade they said! Anything unionized and worth working in is dogshit.

You’re right; it takes years of training and tuition to get the careers you’ve listed, while getting the training and tuition to be a dry van driver without endorsements is optional.

>didn’t specialize
Bruh, $29/hr at Pepsi was the high end for Class A drivers around here. Fuel truck guys are probably similar pay, $70k-$80k a year working 50-60hrs a week with bullshit hours.

Flatbed structural aluminum hauling was $27/hr for guys with experience. Another flatbed equipment hauling gig was driving fancy lawn mowers and turf equipment to all of the Florida golf courses, $23-$27/hr based on experience.

The best option I had, still my Plan B if this water plant falls through at the 11th hour, is this concrete coring + drilling company. I hit it off super well with the guy as he saw me float gears on his old Volvo 8spd dump truck. He was willing to do $27/hr to start, but it wasn’t a driving job, he needed a guy with a CDL to drive a dump truck with a trailer with a backhoe or whatever equipment on the trailer, then operate that equipment. And he was willing to train me on the equipment. I’m hanging onto his business card no matter what.

Don’t forget that Bulk job I had at Pepsi, our department was an average tenure of 20-25 years, that was one of the most comfy local Class A gigs you could get and most guys wanted to retire doing that, until HR and management fucked us.

The one thing I’ve seen a lot of demand for, at least in this area, if you have a CDL and can go get whatever that crane operator certificate is, they’re looking hard for those dudes and paying well. I think the crane operator course is like more work than a Class A though.
