Huh weird, I also paid cash for a 2025 Corolla at age 34, which was also my first new car, and I have also spent the last few summers in a car without A/C.

Average corolla driver. I knew several. Always holier-than-thou uggo white women (daddy paid cash) or the worst-of-the-worst ignorant ghetto niggers (financed 26% apr) driving them. Either way, they're extremely smug that they're driving pure "Toyota reliability" while being the dumbest cunts of drivers on the road.

These are the same people that stop the entire interstate because they got distracted and bumped the guy in front of them. Self-entitled VIPs of their own little world, never fails.

The base model Corolla was $19,600 starting in 2020. That is $24,424.12 today. She likely didn't buy the base model so $29k sounds appropriate.

Yeah, the tire noise is very loud on crappy asphalt. It's not a very noisy car otherwise, which somehow makes the road/tire noise seem even louder.
It will supposedly quiet down a bit if you slap some mat in the wheel arches and doors. I don't think there's really anything there in the stock Corolla.

The 2.0 hybrid's might have thicker acoustic glass and some minimal efforts at sound insulation/deadening, but that thing has fucking awful interior space for a car of its size class---they had to move the 12 V battery under the trunk floor, too, so the hatchback's trunk volume is smaller than in a random Euro subcompact.

Why a new Corolla? The new ones are only marginally better than late 2000s Corollas. The Prius does what the Corolla does best but more.

>I also tried fancier BMWs and they felt significantly worse for me.
I had to drive a rental mild-hybrid Audi last year and was mildly shocked when the interior was mostly hard plastic, and it rattled like crazy despite having around 8000 km on the clock. I guess all those fancy hard plastic edges and trim pieces leave it with tons of spots where the plastics can rattle and creak against each other. I think there also was something loose inside the driver's side door. That rattle sometimes stopped if I slapped the door hard near the speaker.
The DCT gearbox was also kind of hesitant in traffic, and really seemed to like lugging the engine unless I kicked the pedal so hard the burst of speed was almost dangerous. Maybe that's how they tune it to meet emissions targets while still being "sporty", or something.
The current hybrid Corolla isn't exactly a classy car, but with competition like this, it doesn't seem that bad either.
