First-Time Buyer – $25K Budget
I'm a total car noob buying my first vehicle after finally wearing out the used one I got from my parents. I’ve saved up and can spend up to $25K cash. I'm looking for something reliable, low mileage, not too boring, but also practical.

Here’s the filtered list I’ve been browsing:
https://www.autotrader.com/cars-for-sale/all-cars/cars-between-20000-and-25000/boston-ma?makeCode=HONDA&makeCode=JEEP&makeCode=NISSAN&makeCode=TOYOTA&makeCode=VOLKS&mileage=30000&newSearch=true&startYear=2022&zip=02125

Cars I’m Considering:
2024 Volkswagen Jetta S
2022 Jeep Compass Trailhawk or 2024 Jeep Compass Limited
2023 Honda HR-V LX
2022 Honda Civic Sport

Really don’t want a basic bitch car but kind of open to
Used 2024 Honda Civic LX

What do you guys think?

>2024 Volkswagen Jetta S
It will be nice at first, but it will fall apart within 2 years.

>2022 Jeep Compass Trailhawk or 2024 Jeep Compass Limited
These are not Jeeps - they are rebadged Fiats. They will be endless trouble

>2023 Honda HR-V LX
Mostly ok, but has the same engine as the Civic, but weighs more. Acceleration will be slow as fuck

>2022 Honda Civic Sport
The only decent option on your list.

You might want to consider a Subaru Impreza for more utility.
Anonymous No.28479119 >>28483163
Depends what you need the car for exactly, but of those choices I'd go for the HRV. VW ain't what it used to be and interiors suck these days, Jeep I simply don't trust since they're part of Stellantis now. HRV bit more space, Civic a bit more juice, up to you what you prefer.

As a Mazda owner, I can suggest looking into them as well (3, CX30, CX5, again depends what exactly you need). Reliable, good engine choices, nice interiors.

if you can charge at home, used tesla. 25k will easily get you a model3 LR AWD
if you can't, you're pretty much fucked.

anything old enough to be actually reliable will require you to be able to wrench to keep it going cheaply. which requires a garage. which means you're able to charge, so get a tesla instead.
anything new enough not to require regular maintenance from the get go will completely fall apart in expensive ways quite soon

so, in the no garage/no charging scenario, your best bet is something moderately old and japanese.
and by moderately old i mean old enough to be NA and port injected. maybe some camry v6 (or lexus/acura, if you want more luxury, budget permitting ofc)

that helps a lot, actually
most people think that the "only if you can charge at home" thing is about the charging cost savings
its not
its about the inconvenience of having to stop at a charger for 20-30 mins 1/2/3+ times a week.
if its right next door, that inconvenience is greatly decreased.

so, do some napkin math, figure out how often you'd need to charge based on your typical weekly driving, and how long you'd have to spend at said charger
if you're happy with the result, go for it. used model 3s are INSANE value right now. 20-25k and you can end up with a 450hp c-segment sedan. its a pretty big upgrade from a base civic.

Ignore the faggot telling you to buy a second hand 10 years old bmw. Its got some insane maint costs and bad mpg. If you dont keep the maint every 10-15k miles the thing will literally kill itself thanks to some meme component failing that should have been replaced.
Get a Japanese car for cheap maint, easy replacement parts and low insurance since nobody is "swimming" in a fucking Toyota. As long as you arent tracking it like some retarded and broke zoomer without the oil changes it will be fine. Do not buy German luxury cars if you are still building up capital this early in your life. Get a cheap Japanese one, a toyota corolla/ Honda civic if you want an econbox or if it's a sport car a GR86/BRz or a Mx5. They arent the fastest cars around but they outpace most econ shitboxes and teach you how to fucking drive instead of being that retard in his mustang spinning out at the first stoplight and running over a pedestrian. Get your hands on a serious sports car once you've paid down on a house and live more comfortably.

a miata? a brz? not bad choices desu, but damn, it'd be nice not to get passed by zoomers in electric skateboards
the carrerra t is like 150k by the time you option it halfway decently, and its not NA
the s/t is super nice, but fucking unobtainium
ferrari doesn't even sell a plain old v8 anymore. its hybridshit all the way, and the prices are even higher than porsche. also a good contender for worst infotainment in the business

so, yea, when it comes to new stuff, c8 is the only option for a proper sports car that isn't 100% jewed or as slow as a base civic.
there's lots of good stuff used, ofc, but thats an entirely different matter.

It has over 300 hp, a 52:48 weight distribution, rear wheel drive, double wishbone suspension, a huge aftermarket following and fanbase, and looks absolutely gorgeous.

I'll be honest, you seem like too much of a pussy for a performance car like a mustang, camaro or challenger. Those would be good choices however.

This. If your goal is to not be a normie and these are your choices, its probably better to save the money and buy a good enough car and save the money for what you really car about. If you want something reliable and not boring, you will probably have to dip into the used market. It doesn't have to be a corolla, you can find somewhat reliable luxury cars for reasonable money.

You're putting the cart before the horse. Masculine men are more likely to buy aggressive vehicles. I 100% guarantee if you took 1000 male Jetta drivers and 1000 male Mustang drivers and tested their testosterone levels the average testosterone of the Mustang drivers will be substantially higher.

This is why I'm saying to buy the Accord hybrid. You're low test and aren't assertive. The Accord is a pretty nice car, practical and gets good MPGs. You'll like it.

By the way, crossovers tend to be more practical than sedans. You can also check out the Sportage hybrid. Kia's are no longer the total shitboxes they were in 2003. The hatch back is great for cargo. It has AWD which is nice for your MA winters. Hybrid for good MPG.

The Jetta is a good car, but don't get the S, get the Sport instead. It's not much more, and you get your money's worth. The S is stripped down, but the Sport is the way a base Jetta is supposed to be. Get it with a manual transmission, as they still do make those, and VWs is reliable. I currently drive the GLI version, but that's only because in 2023, nobody would sell me a base model for a reasonable price, and the GLI was under MSRP because of the manual transmission that nobody buying a Jetta wants.

You don't want to buy a car in cash, there's really no reason to. You can put a down-payment and then make payments directly to the principal and then you aren't overextended with no cash in hand for many months. (this helps in case you need a repair or have an emergency in some other part of your life)

NORMALLY you would say "wow thats a lot of miles" but that doesnt fucking matter for an EV because they don't have oil, they don't have fuel, it's just a generative motor and a battery. The battery itself won't degrade enough for it to be meaningful for another 7-10 years.
The ONLY work you may need to get done on this car would be brakes + tires and then it's good for 7-10 more years.
You can buy the entire fucker for less than $12k and then spend the rest on your fursuit.

>>28479084 (OP) this is good advice unless your credit is fucked or nonexistent. but the cars could be dangerous - a ghibli will not be cheap on insurance, even if it is reasonably reliable (ZF and decently reliable engine, chrysler electronics). a used audi is also pretty questionable. I'd just get an awd minivan or a midsize truck (with a bed cap) and call it a day, it'll do whatever it is you need it to for a long time.

Normally you would be correct about most of that but as you noted the Maserati has the ZF transmission, and the Audi A6 in question has the 3.0 litre Twin-scroll T V6 TFSI engine.
https://www.wardsauto.com/audi/audi-3-0l-tfsi-supercharged-dohc-v-6
Which is consistently on the "Ward's best Engine's list", along with the B58 which is in the BMW 540i.

OP wants a reliable car with performance. Like I said, all 4 of them are reliable and performant but I -already know- that he's a retard who has badgebrain and can't look at individual models.
