On one hand, I understand why one would dislike this Italian car. They have made some real shit cars and keep making as it seems, really shit cars.

But not all Fiats are terrible. I was driving the 1.1 Fiat Seicento 2003. I drive it every workday for multiple hours. It has been driven like this since it was bought new.

Whatever I do to it, I can't break it. I almost always am speeding in it, driving it on high RPM.

A few days ago, I was driving it only a little bit more aggressively than usual. It overheated. I stopped immediately and checked the water, it was entirely empty. Checked for leaks, no leaks. I was just driving it without water. When I came back to the shop, turns out, I was driving it without oil too. I know it leaks oil but I kinda forgot to refill it in the past year. And I've been driving it on high RPM on a daily basis, without water and without oil. It still runs. It works great. It's FUN to drive.

I love my shitbox. And the 1.1 engine is small but with the weight it's working with, it's enough! It's acceleration from 0 is really good. Amazing for overtaking in city traffic, assertive/ aggressive driving. I can't legally put a bigger engine in it, I could do a turbo, but there's not that big of a need for that honestly. Best city/delivery car. Very fun to drive, terrible resale value but amazing utility value. I love it.

same here
forgot to check oil for a while and it just kept going blinking engine temp light every time the traffic stopped us
it drinks a bit like 5l a year, the left ext doorhandle keeps getting stuck open, left mirror adjustment doesn't hold very well, the rear right brake performance triggers the MOT guys but the car keeps going
I'm guessing the rust will eat the chassis away before the engine stops working for good

I drive a 2007 model, 1.1 fire like yours. The only thing that has rusted so far has been the muffler which i replaced for dirt cheap. Other than that just regular maintenance (oil and filters, brake pads, timing belt). It is surprisingly fun to drive, and it's very practical in the city.

Yea rust isn't something you can do much about. Mine doesn't have issues with rust though, at least for now. But I do maintain it often.

Also an amazing pro is if the drive belt snaps it's not gonna fuck up the engine at all cause the cylinder movement range doesn't intersect the valve movement range. So when the belt is snapped the cylinder will not crush the valves.

You gotta realize both of these cars are built for city driving. If you're American or just looking at it as a highway vehicle that's not the purpose this machine was built for. Also for an American, city driving is just stop and go, very not fun, essentially cock and ball torture. I pity you.

Drive your 10l naturally aspirated V whateverthefuck hunk of metal engine straight for 12345 miles and get out of this thread

I drive a Seicento 1.1 just like that and the experiences described are consistent with mine. Incredibly solid car if you went by the stereotype, surprisingly silent interior as well. You can smell the burnt oil sometimes but all in all it's a keeper.
Nice gearbox as well.

They're essentially the same car. The seicento is just the cinquecento with a rounder body, they did that to make the car more appealing to people in the early 2000s. They share many parts and a lot of the rally kits are compatible with both of them.

Fiat is the /O/ brand.
Since the 1900s theyve been building cars, racing them, breaking speed records, they have built car that inspired the beetle with 500 toppolino, they built tanks and plane engines trucks and locomotives, they motorised italy after ww2,made another 500 which they sold till 70s when they replaced it with a square 500 (126),their parts were used by abarth and who knows what else, they helped pioneer the modern compact car with fiat 127 three years before golf 1,they bought abarth, alfa romeo and lancia so their legacies would persist, they owned 50% of ferrari since 1969 and got 90% over the years till 2016,they dominated world rallies with fiat 131 abarth,in 60s they began making mid sized luxury sedans which laid ground for cars like m3 and m5 years later and while all this was happening they kept making cheap decent shitboxes that could carry families for generations if maintained properly.
Fiat is the heart and soul of cars.
To my fellow euros buy a 126 and shove a hayabusa engine in the back, shits fun.

same, my guess is the cinquecentos are just that much older (1991-1999) than the seicentos (1998-2010), so they have already disappeared while the seicentos are on their last legs atm. Production numbers are similar (1 vs 1,1 million units)
Fiat made a decent amount of the OG Panda until the end in 2003, so a lot of the ones you see around are not that old

Jokes on you retardo, Italfag here and I know well how shitty the 90s 500 and 600 were. Those models were an utter failure with zero resale value and with the worst safety rating. Those who bought them did so because they were cheap, not because of the "city drive" experience; they got them because they couldn't afford any other car, basically a social marking.

Yeah no shit the citycar from 1998 is unsafe and has poor resale value. It was designed to provide cheap transportation to people who couldn't afford anything better (as you said) or just didn't care about what car they were driving, and that's exactly what it did and still does. So in what way is it an utter failure?

both were pretty reliable and cheap as fuck to maintain (rear shock from Monroe was like 25 euro)
both were old, rusty, but they were moving
I've heard someone say "cycle of life of fiat is like this: first 5 years it degrades slowly, degradation peaks at 5-8 years and then it drives in this state for more 15 years, when it disntegrates completely" which I think is true

Not always. Of course, overall it has always been the car brand for the masses while higher quality luxury vehicles were covered by Lancia and sporty cars by Alfa Romeo. But in the 60s and 70s they produced some high quality vehicles that could, in my opinion, compete with other European brands.

The Pandina is overpriced in my opinion. It's essentially the 312 (picrel), which has been in production since 2012, with a few things added to it like lane assist and traffic sign recognition so that it could adhere to the latest EU safety regulations. I wouldn't spend 18k for a 2012 car. Also the 169's engines were better imo (FIRE and Multijet).

I drive a 1997 Fiat Cinquecento with a 700cc engine. I have owned it for 2 years. I have not added any coolant in it since I bought it, only some mineral water. Whenever something starts knocking I just wait a day or two and it stops. Yesterday it decided to just die on the parking lot of a KFC for no reason, I came back today morning and it was up and running. It has seen every kind of road, from the Autobahn, through the potholes of Lithuania ending at just driving through dirt. I have packed 6 men and 3 backpacks into it. I have achieved the speed of 135km/h using it. I have been in a car accident in it. And the fucking casette player just stopped working. I have bought it for 832$.

funny that a guy in a 2014 mazda could not stop on solid ice while a cinquecento on 2 bare summer tires and 2 all year tires could stop

Used to own mk2 punto 1.2 8v as my first car.
Man i lived that thing.
Never let me down even though it mever fully ral always was something broken.
Went up to 150km/h with it.
Sadly 4 years of sitting on grass has killed the chassis. But i bet engine wouldve fired right up.
Wanted to get an abarth one as 2nd car but couldnt find one unless they were away and like 7kโ‚ฌ.
Bought an alfa romeo 155 and then soon after found one abarth punto for like 1k in my hometown.
Bless the fiats

Ok someone has to say this.
South American Fiats arent proper Italian Fiats, they are mostly In The World of their own. Euros can get South American Fiats but South Americans largely can't get European ones.
You can get a Punto with T-jet, that's just how they come. You can also get one with the Pratola engine if you really feel the need to in Europe.
Factory support sucks if you have a South American Fiat in Europe.

>Four petrol engines with multi-point injection system were available, as well as one indirect injection diesel and three common rail turbocharged diesel engines with intercooler (JTD and MultiJet). The 1.8 16v and the 1.9 MultiJet engines were available only with the three-door version in the HGT trim level.[21]
and abarth is just HGT with a bodykit.
